Yes, I’m slightly concerned now that instead of looking like a hairy, 30-something radical feminist I now look like a hairy 30-something desperately trying to look trendy in order to cling on to her lost youth.

Ah well.

I'm now 44& shave my armpits every day because I prefer to be hairless there. I just prefer the way it looks on me & it's such an ingrained habit - I've shaved them since I was 9.

If I get any soreness from over zealous shaving & over use of anti perspirant spray (I have an active job and get a bit paranoid about sweating & smells) I put a bit of diprobase ointment on in the evening which cures it.

One of my best mates however uses an epilator under her arms - ouch!! She says she quite likes the pain!! Erm ok.

Smartiepants79 · 15/08/2021 19:53

I shave my armpits as I feel sweaty and itchy quickly if I don’t.
Shave legs sporadically.
Never bother with anywhere else.

Twinkie01 · 15/08/2021 19:56

Legs and pits every day in the shower.

Kanaloa · 15/08/2021 20:13

Sometimes. More in the summer than winter. Has anyone seen that photo of I think Sophia Loren getting ready for an event and she has very prominent armpit hair? I guess it has become less usual recently, but at one time it was more normal.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 15/08/2021 20:19

Maybe every other month. When you get older you get a lot less hairier except on the chin.

tickledtiger · 15/08/2021 21:05

Yes, I think I’d smell more if I didn’t shave. Plus I’ve found a deodorant which doesn’t irritate even if I shave daily. Got nothing against underarm hair, I don’t find it an inconvenience to remove it to be honest, I shave my body hair daily to feel comfortable.

Durbeyfield · 15/08/2021 23:08

Yes, of course.

Gosh I wish this was true for me. I am almost 65 and noticed zero reduction in hair growth. Still shave armpits every other day and legs every 4 days.
Lola001 · 16/08/2021 07:23

Legs not since February, I was having a minor op done and did them for no real reason just reached to the cream.
Armpits, I can cope with a bit of stubble and in the winter they get a lot longer but I do start to smell so probably twice a week.
Bikini area.... well it's been about 3 years since I did a beach holiday.

OhRosalind · 16/08/2021 09:39

I don’t think the European thing is true now, if it ever was. All the Italian, French and German women I know shave or remove all/most of their body hair in another way, lots of expensive salon visits.

I feel itchy and sweatier if I don’t shave and it’s so quick to do, never had an ingrown armpit hair, bikini line is another story.

Motherofcats007 · 16/08/2021 09:42

Not since lockdown…. I hardly go out and when I do I wear a longish sleeve thing. My husband doesn’t mind

Jackgrealishscurtains · 16/08/2021 09:50

Can people really feel their armpit hair if they don't shave for a little while? I often skip shaving in the winter because I just can't be arsed and then I'm quite shocked when I do look at my pits because I had no idea they had grown so long! I certainly couldn't feel or smell it!

WafflesOrIceCream · 16/08/2021 09:54

I wax my underarms and everywhere else on my body.

Froppysue · 16/08/2021 09:57

My dd is 12 and has shaved her armpits twice (extremely hairy/olive skin) she has sensory issues/asd so hates getting it done so I think she’s just going to leave it for now.
If I’m being totally honest, I do worry she’ll get teased at high school for it…. I’m hoping she just doesn’t give a shit!

DoucheCanoe · 16/08/2021 09:59

I epilate my legs, underarms and bikini line once a fortnight - shave underneath twice a week. I'm a dark haired, sweaty person and just feel cleaner when I do.

I don't care what others do and wouldn't give body hair a second glance.

DH shaves his arm pits and trims pubes in the summer and I epilate his back once a month as he's a sweaty bugger too.

goose1964 · 16/08/2021 11:57

I don't shave mine because I have about 6 fair hairs and it's not worth the effort.

Crimeismymiddlename · 16/08/2021 12:15

I have been shaving my armpits every morning for 25 years, I have to admit until just now it has not occurred to me not to. It must be so liberating to just go in the way nature intended.

DelphineMarineaux · 16/08/2021 12:27

I have had mine lasered off, so no shaving for me.

silentpool · 16/08/2021 12:36

I have a Lumea, so I shave a few stragglers from time to time.

copernicium · 16/08/2021 12:39

DD14 does armpits but has never done legs. She says nobody cares.
I feel a bit messy/dirty if I don't do my armpits but I don't always make sure my legs are done, even with a dress.

InTheNameOfAllThatIsHonest · 16/08/2021 12:49

lasered legs, Hollywood wax, shave pits in shower every day. Eyebrows every few weeks. Used to wax my forearms too. I'm not terribly hairy but I find hairy pits, legs, etc gross.

Why are they gross Confused

They’re just how they are. Most people are naturally hairy, men rarely remove their body hair. If it’s not your style then of course remove it, but is isn’t ‘gross.’

'gross'? Why, what's wrong with body hair? Confused
