@AbsolutelyPatsy

attitudes have definitely shifted, they famously dont shave in europe,
The whole of Europe? Really? I think that's a myth. I can't recall ever seeing a woman with visible arm pit hair.

I shave. I think armpit hair looks horrible - on women and men. I noticed in the Olympics that men also shave.

KimikosNightmare · 15/08/2021 05:18

@YetAnotherSpartacus

Yes. Its unhygenic and gross not to and looks horrific.

Really? So should men shave too?

Yes - it looks horrible.
AbsolutelyPatsy · 15/08/2021 07:00

@KimikosNightmare
i could be wrong, but i am sure in the past they were less likely to shave but times may have changed.

@AbsolutelyPatsy - Lumping the whole of mainland Europe together as one and saying they don’t shave, doesn’t work in this case.

The French probably remove hair less than in the UK and this maybe applies to south east Europe too, but this certainly does not apply to everybody there.

The Germans, Dutch and Scandinavians tend to be very keen on hair removal. Probably more so than in the UK.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 15/08/2021 07:27

perhaps now @StarlightLady but i dont think so in the 1970s

not important though

Yes I do.

Have been waxing legs since I was a teenager and I’m very glad I did as hardly get any hair on them now. And what appears is quite fine.

MissTrip82 · 15/08/2021 07:44

I shave, because I think it looks better.

I know that my opinion has been shaped by the society in which I’ve been enmeshed throughout my life. I’d be absolutely stupid to think I’ve formed that view in a vacuum.

I don’t know about the hygiene idea. My husband, father, brother and male friends seem to smell fine and they don’t shave.

MarleneDietrichsSmile · 15/08/2021 07:49

I am European and shave , I started in 1988 when my French boyfriend joked about my black Forrest. So much for Europeans not shaving GrinWink

Never really stopped. Maybe shaving will become an age indicator like thin eyebrows

StarlightLady · 15/08/2021 07:53

In recent years, l’ve been asked to shave a number of men too! Maybe they get nervous about doing it themselves?!?

PollyGray · 15/08/2021 07:56

MN is properly weird these days.

ShippingNews · 15/08/2021 08:56

Yes of course. Hairy armpits look awful. And the idea that it takes a lot of time, is crazy. It takes me about 1 minute, once a week in the shower.

My ex also shaves his armpits, it looks nice and smooth on a man.

cookiecreampie · 15/08/2021 09:00

Yes I shave. I don't like the way it looks on me. I prefer my DH to have armpit hair. Maybe my preference has been shaped by society but I don't care.

PieMaster · 15/08/2021 09:09

Lots of younger women don't I've noticed when I go to the trendy bit of my city. I've stopped doing it religiously. It will be a slow change as we've had decades of thinking it is awful not to but as with all fashion it might eventually change.

I only have the proper use of one arm. So try it then and come back to tell me how easy it is.
golddustwomen · 15/08/2021 09:14

Yes I do. Everywhere. I would stink to high heaven if I didn't shave my armpits, I sweat BAD. Personal choice isn't it, but hairy legs and armpits are not for me!

Kintsugi16 · 15/08/2021 11:04

I obviously realise that the general public are less likely to see hairy pits and legs in winter but what about you, your partner, visitors, your family etc? For me it’s about how I feel.
Toenails also painted all year round, apart from a few days each month when I let the air/light to them

Coffeepot72 · 15/08/2021 11:33

@Kintsugi16 very good point. I also keep toe nails painted all year round. I shave arm pits every morning in the shower with a bic disposable, shave my legs every 2/3 days and have a Brazilian every 6 weeks. It makes me feel better about myself.

Gwenhwyfar · 15/08/2021 12:17

Yes in the summer so I can wear sleeveless tops/dresses and so I can know when to put on more deodorant - pits get sticky when I need more and I can't feel that when hairy.

"If I shave in the morning I have stubble by evening, such a pain!"
I thought that was normal for armpits. Isn't it?

Gwenhwyfar · 15/08/2021 12:19

Interesting because the only woman I've seen with very hairy armpits in a sleeveless top was German.
When I was in Spain over 20 years ago, they were totally obsessed with various forms of hair removal.

Gwenhwyfar · 15/08/2021 12:20

"My husband, father, brother and male friends seem to smell fine and they don’t shave."

I find men more stinky/sweaty generally even when they make an effort to be clean, but that could be down to internal biology rather than hair.

I'd you shave every day.

If you regularly leave a while (say 10+ dats) between shaves, then you'll find that noticeable stubble only appears around day 4 or so.

Pinkbonbon · 15/08/2021 12:40

*if you shave

Gwenhwyfar · 15/08/2021 13:50

Not at all. I shave very rarely in the winter and still get stubble. I don't think there any credible science behind your assertion.

ViceLikeBlip · 15/08/2021 17:13

Just coming back to this, and it's so heartening to hear that body hair is acceptable for younger women/girls these days! I thought I was an awful middle aged matron, but it turns out I'm bang on trend.
