CodDickinson · 16/11/2007 17:45

ok this a new weekly thread that will be amalgamated into the mail out( i'm told) so we can all have a good ol' shufty at certain products.

Are aiming to change it every week( maybe at the weekend so you cna pop into the shops and have a look yourseves) and subject - wise go from the sublime to the ricidulous.

So whether its nail varnish or Knickers we WILL SUSS IT. Together.. Amen.

what we need is your opinions on ech product and if you are willing to try out a new product then PLEASE join in and buy it( any excuse eh?) and then we will set up some kind of testing parameters.

so this week is lip gloss, we are looking for :

  1. Quality of packaging /10
  2. Colour choice
  3. depth of colour
  4. longevity ( this'll be fun testing this)
5 scent
  1. wow factor - does ANYONE even notice.

so that out of 60.

Im going to buy a mid range one i think - maybe Boirjois to get us off to a start.

If you are doing an existing one please look at the colour choices as they are now, not when you bought it in 1992.

EW.

It's go surfy packaging because it's for that I'm freezing to death in the Cornish Sea look.

I don't want to test run an unknown lip gloss one now. I'm going to get a Chanel one tomorrow.

StrangeTown · 18/11/2007 09:49

Bobbi Brown Lip Gloss I've got Buff, Brown, Nude, Tangerine and Beige..
1.Quality of packaging 6/10 - bit cheap and plasticky looking, the brush splays after only a few uses, lots nicer looking ones out there.

  1. Colour choice - excellent, 9/10
  2. depth of colour, pretty good, but it is quite sticky in texture because of this so only giving a 7/10.
  3. longevity ( this'll be fun testing this) not the best 6/10
5 scent sweet and vanilla - y 7/10
  1. wow factor - does ANYONE even notice. Not really 6/10

Hmmm that's interesting and begs the question why I do I keep buying them...41/60

Cod, yes it is quite a sweet make-uppy sort of smell if that makes sense? Not sure if it is normal as I only have juicy tubes to compare and they have a scent and a taste - my pamplemousse one is quite a pink grapefruit type of taste/smell by comparison.

CodDickinson · 18/11/2007 12:28

No 17 Ultimate Volume Lip Gloss 44/60

  1. Quality of packaging 5/10 dull wand application tube with spongy tip.
  1. Colour choice 8/10 - 10 shades including my choice - crystal which is clear.
  1. depth of colour - 10/10 - it's clear!!
  1. longevity 8/10 - does last a fair time and not too gloopy.

5 scent 6/10 = nothing obnoxious but not nice

  1. wow factor 7/10 great for a quick slick of gloss to make you feel "polished" when you're not.
bagpuss · 18/11/2007 13:48

Cod, that's a good point actually. I hadn't thought of that before. Mine must have gone off then - oh bum, might have to go out and buy another .

Have to go to M&S tomorrow and there is a SpaceNK in nearby Wilmslow apparently so I may pop in.

CodDickinson · 18/11/2007 13:49

we need osmeone to try the MARKS ones
and also a numebr 17 maybe and a no7

COME ON GALS

OP posts:
bagpuss · 18/11/2007 13:57

Will have a look in M&S tomorrow then.

CodDickinson · 18/11/2007 14:02

do youhtink JUstines lips are sealed fomr her tesco value one?

OP posts:
bagpuss · 18/11/2007 14:06

Probably, although I had a tesco one ages ago and it was ok over lippy.

Just had a look online at the M&S ones, they look ok. Might try an autograph or per una one if they have a nice colour in stock. The cheaper ones are fruit flavoured which I'm not keen on.

Another thought on the Clinique one, maybe the fact that they separate and go off is why they are no longer on their main website, perhaps they are discontinued?

DarthVader · 18/11/2007 15:12

California kissin is damn nigh impossible to get hold of either here or in the #usa due to how much folk are in luv wiv it.

I believe that it contains an addictive drug

I would be prepared to lick a pavement for a tube, chanel can't claim that

hatjam · 18/11/2007 15:19

you know what's great is the elizabeth arden 8 hour one - it's not like it sounds (ie long-lasting) but it's factor 15, very sheer, not superglossy but quite natural and er dewy. it costs around 13 quid but i've got it on ebay for closer to 6 (new, of course). i comes in quite a few colours and also clear. there's one that's really rank and orangey - melon, i think it's called - the others are nice.
colour choice 8/10
stayingon-ness 6/10
stickiness not very
BUT it's sheer enough so you can put it on wihtout a mirror and you don't look like a clown - well, no more than usual

OliviaMumsnet · 18/11/2007 15:50

hatjam - I agree see my post of Fri 16-Nov-07 18:31:35

DarthVader · 18/11/2007 15:58

I like 8 hour as well
