Cod the consumer....... checks out...LIP GLOSS

CodDickinson · 16/11/2007 17:45

ok this a new weekly thread that will be amalgamated into the mail out( i'm told) so we can all have a good ol' shufty at certain products.

Are aiming to change it every week( maybe at the weekend so you cna pop into the shops and have a look yourseves) and subject - wise go from the sublime to the ricidulous.

So whether its nail varnish or Knickers we WILL SUSS IT. Together.. Amen.

what we need is your opinions on ech product and if you are willing to try out a new product then PLEASE join in and buy it( any excuse eh?) and then we will set up some kind of testing parameters.

so this week is lip gloss, we are looking for :

  1. Quality of packaging /10
  2. Colour choice
  3. depth of colour
  4. longevity ( this'll be fun testing this)
5 scent
  1. wow factor - does ANYONE even notice.

so that out of 60.

Im going to buy a mid range one i think - maybe Boirjois to get us off to a start.

If you are doing an existing one please look at the colour choices as they are now, not when you bought it in 1992.

EW.

ps have mailed codlet

bagpuss · 16/11/2007 19:51

I agree minty. I use lipstick and then sometimes gloss over the top or balm underneath depending. Also, eyeliner including a masterclass on how and where to apply properly please.

mintydixcharrington · 16/11/2007 20:01

In fact I'd like a whole makeover/makeup lesson.
Hey maybe I can get DH to give me that for xmas, tehre must be good places?

PrunersOfEight · 16/11/2007 20:10

You're all mental
a bit of your favourite lipstick and then Lansinoh on top
gets rid of chapped lips, Justine, in about a day.
(Actually I have loads but they've all been 'tested' except Mac Lipglass "Lust" which I bought in the 90s and has finally died on me.)

Pollyanna · 16/11/2007 20:14

Laura Mercier - lip kisses
29/60
11. Quality of packaging 7/10

  1. Colour choice 6/10 lots of choice I think
  2. depth of colour - 5/10 subtle
  3. longevity ( this'll be fun testing this)-4.10 - subtle
5 scent - 4/10 unpleasant
  1. wow factor - does ANYONE even notice - 3/10 subtle.

I also have clinique impossibly glossy - ok but too sticky imo, my favourite lip gloss is a mac one, but I can't locate it to rate it at the moment, I also like a boots one (I think it is called candyfloss or something).

I am tempted to get Minty's chanel one - when you get onto foundation I will be rating the new Chanel matlumiere foundation - it's fab imo.

scattyspice · 16/11/2007 20:15

Lansinoh as in nipple cream?

PrunersOfEight · 16/11/2007 20:17

Yes.
It only really scores on longevity - stays on hours (and is genuinely healing).
It's fab, and let's face it, half of us have got most of a tube lurking in the medicine cabinet, gathering dust.

bodiddly · 16/11/2007 20:38

am I the only one who finds that lip gloss dries out my lips much more than lipstick? I use the Lancome juicy tubes from time to time but always end up with chapped lips by the end of the day!

PrunersOfEight · 16/11/2007 20:40

No that happens to me too
It's all the chemicals
I am going to plug Lansinoh one more time but I know you all think I'm a sad loon

bodiddly · 16/11/2007 20:43

I am glad to know I'm not the only one!

bozza · 16/11/2007 22:09

Can I join?

Avon (!) 3 pack of mini lip glosses. These are good because you get 3 for next to no money, and, OK, they are mini but I have had them for months and still have loads left. Just so long as DD doesn't manage to steal them. Just checked - £7 for 3

  1. packaging not great and bog standard Avon, also small tubes look a bit tight so 3/10
  2. colour - fantastic because you get 3 - a nude, a paleish pink and a hot pink 10/10
  3. depth of colour - Ok 6/10
  4. longevity - pretty good for mini tubes - 8/10
  5. scent - non-existant really but is that a bad thing? 7/10
  6. wow factor also not really there - 3/10
total = 37/60 But you do not have a value for money category which they would win hands down.

Virgin Vie new lip blush - £10 two ended jobbie with colour and clear

  1. packaging - very nice and chunky 9/10
  2. colour choice - only 4 so not great really 4/10
  3. depth of colur - good especially because fo putting clear topcoat on 9/10
  4. longevity - aboslutely effing fantastic. I went to a virgin vie party and put some of this on as did my friend. Next time I saw her "I really did wash my face but I still had lippy on the next morning". Made me feel better, because I did as well. 10/10
  5. scent - OK nothing special 6/10
  6. wow factor - the lipstick still on next day did it for us - 8/10
46/60
ZacharyQuack · 16/11/2007 23:06

Origins Once Upon A Shine gloss in Sheer Fruit Punch

  1. Packaging 7/10 - tube with wand
  2. Colour 9/10 - shimmery rose pink
  3. Depth of colour - 9/10 - sheer, but that's what I want
  4. Longevity - 7/10 - about average
  5. Scent - 8/10 - slightly minty
  6. Wow factor - 8/10 - several women have admired it for the 'natural but better' effect

What? I have to add them up? 48/60

CodDickinson · 17/11/2007 12:48

Elphaba · 17/11/2007 13:32

Lancome StarBronzer

  1. Quality of packaging 10/10
  2. Colour choice 5/10 - only a few, neutrals mainly
  3. depth of colour - 8/10 - not huge colour but that's why you buy them, they are neutrals/browns - very nice
  4. longevity ( this'll be fun testing this) - 8/10 - pretty good
5 scent - 9/10
  1. wow factor - does ANYONE even notice - 9/10 - yes, it's been commented on

What about stickiness? It's not too sticky - I love these glosses

Maybelline Superlicious shine (or somat)

  1. Quality of packaging 8/10
  2. Colour choice - dunno, was gift
  3. depth of colour - 5/10 not bad
  4. longevity ( this'll be fun testing this) -2/10
5 scent - 5/10
  1. wow factor - does ANYONE even notice - 0/10 - no comments

I bought a set of 3 translucent with slight glitter effect from Tesco Express during a rash PMT moment this week and found then to be lovely for just £2! I am currently favouring them over my Juicy Tubes.

  1. Quality of packaging - 2/10
  2. Colour choice - 7/10
  3. depth of colour - 7/10
  4. longevity ( this'll be fun testing this)6/10
5 scent - 7/10
  1. wow factor - does ANYONE even notice.10/10
crunchie · 17/11/2007 17:08

Well I LIVE LIP GLOSSES I usually wear them all the time, I can rate my fave as it is THE BEST

MAC Lip Glass in Lust - a nice nudey pink colour

  1. Quality of packaging 9/10
  2. Colour choice 10/10
  3. depth of colour 10/10 (for a lip gloss)
  4. longevity ( this'll be fun testing this) 10/10 stays on til lunch AT LEAST, survives cups of tea/glasses of wine easily
5 scent 10/10 nice yummy sort of caramel smell, but not too sweet/sickly
  1. wow factor - does ANYONE even notice. 9/10 only since this is a glosss and I have been wearing it for years so everyone is used to it!!

see here

Seriously I have used this gloss for so long I am on my 3rd tube and I actiually finish the tube - lasts ages as I don't wea it everyday. It is a great colour and works layered over lipstick if you want to gloss up a matt lippy.

I LOVE THIS STUFF and it is not too 'glittery, shiney' to took like a 12 year old has raided thier mums makeup - eg 'diamond shine' etc. I have loads of other brands in similar colours, from L'oreal, Maybeline, No7, Tesco, Clinique, Bobbi Brown and the only other good one was Bobbi Brown. I can really jusify £11 on a lipgloss as I use every bit.

ACTUALLY if I were to rate make up MAC would win hands down every time for Lipgloss, lipsticks, eyeshadows, blushers, eyeliners this is aqualine is FAB

If you want a 60/60 product it would be this eyeliner, I get comments EVERYTIME I wear it!!

Cheapy one - L'Oreal Glam Shine - Mauve

  1. Quality of packaging 8/10 - packaging OK, but I am rating it highly because of the wand applicator which I find much better than the pesky brushes.
  2. Colour choice - 7/10 - there aren't a lot, but they are all pretty wearable.
  3. depth of colour 8/10 - good colour/texture balance
  4. longevity ( this'll be fun testing this)7/10 - ok but not the 6 hours it claims
5 scent - again just OK 7/10 nothing like as nice as the Juicy Tubes
  1. wow factor - does ANYONE even notice. 8/10 yes nice comments

45/60 - good for everyday value and widely available.

DarthVader · 17/11/2007 21:34

Califonia Kissin from Benefit

  1. Quality of packaging 6/10 - unusual, retro surfy
  2. Colour choice - 0/10 - only in BLUE - yes BLUE - makes your teeth look whiter apparently
  3. depth of colour 2/10 - but then you don't want it to be too blue, do you?
  4. longevity ( this'll be fun testing this)2/10 - tastes of mint so you keep likin' it off, dee-lish
5 scent - 9/10 - minty!
  1. wow factor - does ANYONE even notice. 10/10 yes

Bonus LOVE points 10 - I LOVE this product big time.

Total 39 points
