ok this a new weekly thread that will be amalgamated into the mail out( i'm told) so we can all have a good ol' shufty at certain products.

Are aiming to change it every week( maybe at the weekend so you cna pop into the shops and have a look yourseves) and subject - wise go from the sublime to the ricidulous.

So whether its nail varnish or Knickers we WILL SUSS IT. Together.. Amen.

what we need is your opinions on ech product and if you are willing to try out a new product then PLEASE join in and buy it( any excuse eh?) and then we will set up some kind of testing parameters.

so this week is lip gloss, we are looking for :

  1. Quality of packaging /10
  2. Colour choice
  3. depth of colour
  4. longevity ( this'll be fun testing this)
5 scent
  1. wow factor - does ANYONE even notice.

so that out of 60.

Im going to buy a mid range one i think - maybe Boirjois to get us off to a start.

If you are doing an existing one please look at the colour choices as they are now, not when you bought it in 1992.

EW.

JustineMumsnet · 16/11/2007 17:58

Ok so I feel I need some lip gloss, actually I think what i need is a lip moistener so lips my don't chap in the cold air, but assume gloss will do, will it? and if so what brand do you want me to test (bear in mind my choice will be limited to what they sell in Tescos superstore beccaue I'm out in the sticks this weekend.)

JustineMumsnet · 16/11/2007 18:02

Am I allowed to buy L'oreal - think I'll go for Maybelline I feel safe there as I used their Mascara once - you can see this is hard for me, can't you?

JustineMumsnet · 16/11/2007 18:17

Well there you are you see - that's what I think I need Pooka. But they're making me do Maybelline .

OliviaMumsnet · 16/11/2007 18:18

ooh presume you all know that Bourjois is made by Chanel
Their nail varnishes are ACE imo.

OliviaMumsnet · 16/11/2007 18:31

Elizabeth Arden Lip Tint in plum
41/60

  1. Quality of packaging 8/10
Comes in a dull white box and winds up like a lipstick
  1. Colour choice - 6/10
Only five colours I think: berry honey blush plum and "clear"
  1. depth of colour 8/10
Very deep and in emergencies have been known to use as blusher in "2 in 1" Nadine Baggott-style slimline makeup bag.
  1. longevity 8/10 Haven't done a snog-a-thon test as DH hates all lipstick but it lasts well and keeps my lips all soft at the same time.

5 scent - 4/10 - smells like 8 hour cream - rather medicinal.

  1. wow factor - does ANYONE even notice. 7/10
It's a great colour which adds shine to lips without the stickiness that a usual gloss can bring.

Justine, you should get some, though they may not sell it in Tesco

OliviaMumsnet · 16/11/2007 18:32

Olivia wonders whether maybe she is taking this all too seriously.
Cod, are you really BBQing now??!

OliviaMumsnet · 18/11/2007 12:25

California Kissin is out of stock
Can't imagine why

OliviaMumsnet · 18/11/2007 12:48

I have a no 17 one I can test- is that "rimmel" enough for ya?
Also Stila

OliviaMumsnet · 18/11/2007 13:27

No 17 Ultimate Volume Lip Gloss 44/60

  1. Quality of packaging 5/10 dull wand application tube with spongy tip.
  1. Colour choice 8/10 - 10 shades including my choice - crystal which is clear.
  1. depth of colour - 10/10 - it's clear!!
  1. longevity 8/10 - does last a fair time and not too gloopy.

5 scent 6/10 = nothing obnoxious but not nice

  1. wow factor 7/10 great for a quick slick of gloss to make you feel "polished" when you're not.

OliviaMumsnet · 18/11/2007 15:50

hatjam - I agree see my post of Fri 16-Nov-07 18:31:35

JJMumsnet · 18/11/2007 17:36

Skin Medica Lip Plumping system this

  1. Quality of packaging 10/10 - silver tubes with brushes and the turny things at the bottom to get the stuff out
  2. Colour choice 0 / 10 - it makes your own lips more their own colour really, kinda like a natural lip blush
  3. depth of colour - 5 / 10 - works very very well when my lips are, for whatever reason, kinda blah looking but still very natural, so only 5/10
  4. longevity - 7/10 - I dunno really.
5 scent - 0 /10 - none
  1. wow factor - 5/10 - does ANYONE even notice - yep, but it's subtle

so only 27 but I really really like it and it's great for everyday

Bloom Lip Shine

  1. Quality of packaging 7/10 - normal little tubes
  2. Colour choice 8 / 10 - lots, I think
  3. depth of colour - 8 / 10 - pretty deep
  4. longevity - 7/10 - I dunno really.
5 scent - 10 /10 - that vanilla and mandarin that they do, yummy
  1. wow factor - 8/10 - does ANYONE even notice - yes

48/60 - I do like these, they're pretty shiny though

Benetint pocket pal

  1. Quality of packaging 5/10 - I am convinced I'm going to open it upside down and get that pink all over me
  2. Colour choice 0 / 10 - just the one
  3. depth of colour - 5 / 10 - more like a subtle stain
  4. longevity - 7/10 - I dunno really.
5 scent - 10 /10 - I love the rose
  1. wow factor - 8/10 - does ANYONE even notice - yes, kinda

35/60 - I don't use the other end though - I cover it with Fresh Sugar lip treatment which is lovely

OliviaMumsnet · 18/11/2007 19:33

My dentist told me that Benetint turned a hole in the back of my teeth (that was too small to fill) PINK!
The pocketpal gloss is rubbish too IMHO = far too sticky.

OliviaMumsnet · 18/11/2007 22:30

Stila Lip Glaze

I actually thought I had "Grapefruit" but the name at the end says "Berry Ice" which isn't on their list
Anyway 52/60

  1. Quality of packaging 8/10 - think it came in a brown box, (long gone) gloss itself is a click tube not unlike a touche eclat with a brush.
  2. Colour choice 9/10 lots of colours
  3. depth of colour - 9/10 very good - looks scary in the tube, but looks fab on.
  4. longevity- 9/10 put it on before I ate my supper of roast beef and there were still traces afterwards It's quite gloopy!
5 scent 8/10 -sweet but not offensive
  1. wow factor - 9/10 always get told am looking well when I wear this one

JustineMumsnet · 19/11/2007 10:11

Hot news from GMTV make-up woman who's just made me up for Loraine Kelly only for me to be bumped by a late Penny Lancaster - By Terry lip gloss is the best all-rounder in her opinion.

It's quite new on the market apparently. Will try and track some down...

OliviaMumsnet · 19/11/2007 14:20

OI! I did a No 17 one for you, is £3.49 not cheap enough?

OliviaMumsnet · 19/11/2007 17:29

I jsut checked the price and it's actually £3.79

OliviaMumsnet · 19/11/2007 17:47
