I've placed my first Stitch Fix order!
trevigirl · 22/03/2021 14:44
Been thinking of trying this for a while, as I've felt in need of some style inspiration.
My parcel is due for delivery on 3rd April, but I think I get to know what's in it before that: I've said that I'd like a Spring dress for upcoming pub lunches.
Excited now.

I did it a few times last year and kept 1 item. The items weren't remotely reflective of what I'd specified as preferences - so I'd get a box full of tops when I'd asked for trousers. The styling was also appalling. I actually got quite offended in the end with the garish appliquéd tat that the stylist felt was to my taste! In terms of brands the boxes started with brands like Oasis and Mango but ended up with anonymous own brands that were really expensive - £80 for an acrylic jumper. I think these threads are mostly started by Stitch Fix to be honest as other posters hauls never reflect my experience at all.

I'm always fascinated by the entirely different experiences. A friend hated her first box but decided to try again with a new stylist and is now a fan. But I think there's an element of expectation management. I don't actually want to keep all 5 items. That's too expensive frankly. So if I get 2 items in a box that I love, I consider that a win. I always get at least one item I hate but it doesn't bother me. And I've enjoyed the brands I'd never heard of. I would start to get annoyed though if the bulk of what they sent me was their own brands. I had one box with 3 items that were theirs and my hackles did go up a little.

I've had about 5 boxes now. I've bought all 5 items once, most of the time it's been a couple of items. Last one was terrible. I kept one item which I've barely worn but the jeans they sent were the wrong size, a dress was damaged and they didn't send any of the things I asked for. They offered me a free box but I'm not sure I would use them again after last time.
cravingthelook · 23/03/2021 11:27
I bought myself one as a Christmas gift, loved it. I specifically requested jeans as I can never get them to fit. Best fitting jeans 😁 mauvette which I think is their brand.
I kept everything.
I will order one for summer as my birthday present. I don't want to go quarterly this year as I'm trying to save for a new kitchen but I will treat myself a couple times a year.

I tried Lookiero and Stitch Fix as my birthday is this month! I kept a couple of items in each of my first boxes.
I really enjoyed having the surprises and didn't look at the previews.
However, I think I have to keep in the forefront of my mind that I have to be quite discriminating and firm with what I send back. If they ask if I want to change stylists I need to say yes if I do etc.
So far my main response has been for them to send me more colour.
Brokenrecord3006 · 23/03/2021 22:08
I got to preview the items they chose today. They weren't my cup of tea but I could see they'd listened to all the answers and feedback I'd given. I chose 2 things from their selection and then gave some quite specific feedback for whatever else they send.

I’m waiting on my second box. Kept all five items from the first box. The jeans have been really good, also a fabulous jumpsuit which I’m waiting for the weather to warm up a bit for 🙄.
Here’s another code if anyone wants to try for free:

Thanks @tobee. The review shows they're suggesting jeans for £70 for me. This is much more than I usually spend on jeans because I so rarely wear them but if they're good and last a while then maybe they're worth it. Although I could get a pair of Levis for cheaper.
Am a bit annoyed with the review. I asked for dresses and a pair of higg rise jeans. They're suggesting mid rise jeans and lots and lots of shapeless tops. I said I like fitted clothes so don't know why they're so shapeless. Also think I should have lied about my age, I feel like they saw 41 and thought "oh lets take her to frumpy town".
tobee · 24/03/2021 07:25
Right I've tried to find my receipt @bonfireheart to check the price of the jeans which I can't see online but will look again.
I can't attest to how long they last obviously, but they did fit well.
Be really firm with yourself for the days you decide. Initially, I was going to keep everything; because of the discount. But I tried stuff on a few times and ended up with just 3 items. Even that was probably 1 item more than I was going to take. But it was my birthday tread to myself.
You don't need to keep anything you don't want to. It really is easy to return stuff. Be clear as to why you don't like stuff. Say the choices are too frumpy for you if you want. Having not done the preview, I'm not sure what the option was there.
Anyway, that's my advice.
EffYouSeeKaye · 24/03/2021 07:40
My jeans were £45 (before the discount) if that helps. They are the ‘&et’ brand. I did keep everything as I really liked 4 of the 5 pieces and then it became a case of it being cheaper to keep everything because of the 20% off. I do like the 5th piece (blouse) I just probably wouldn’t have kept it for full price.
I selected all the lower end of the price ranges when I set up my account (you can change your settings at any time I think) and I didn’t lie about my age either but definitely wasn’t sent anything frumpy. I did use the preview to reject a couple of things (white trainers I already have and something else, I forget what) and to give LOTS of notes.
Loopy9 · 24/03/2021 08:37
@bonfireheart you can set the price you would prefer to pay for any item in your account settings or did you do this and there still preferring overpriced items?!
I’ve had a couple of items from their Mauvette range, all great quality. I did get a pair of skinny jeans when I prefer straight cut but that’s probably the only disappointment. I didn’t leave many notes so I think I’m going to up my ramblings to them!!
I definitely don’t work for stitch fix either!

I find this so odd. A friend had similar in that she specified that she never wears skirts .... her first box turned up with a skirt in it. I can see the point of trying to encourage people to try something a little different, but if you specify something you really don't like, don't send it.
I have to admit that I assumed my "stylist" is not a real person. I figured they just had a bunch of names and then whoever is on duty on the day you're asking for your box serves you and signs with whatever name your "stylist" supposedly has. After all, stylists surely would change jobs, get promoted out etc? But reading this thread I'm starting to think there really are individual stylists and I've managed to get a good one who actually listens to me.
LivingDeadGirlUK · 24/03/2021 11:08
I have had 4 boxes, loved 2, sent everything in 2 back. I got a bit fed up as I asked for Jeans twice and didn't get sent any. I'm a size 16. I've canceled it now, I think I would get a box again if I fancied a bit of a surprise, but I did find I was sent stuff that was on sale in other stores but being sent to me at full price. Overall I think its a nice idea but not a cost effective way to shop on the regular.
EffYouSeeKaye · 24/03/2021 11:14
@Triffid1 I wondered the same about the stylists but, with my first box, she responded to my notes on a very personal level and again on the comments which arrived with the box. She absolutely listened to my notes on the preview and chose well with the switches as a result. I’ve requested her for the second box. Very much hoping she is a real person!
