x-posted with Bo -- agree, baby poo collection. Just got the email and had a look. Am v stressed right now and channelled that into irrational anger at them calling that pale dirty peach "orange".

On the plus side, if anybody loves pistachio as a colour the entire collection will suit them.

The only thing I really like is the cotton shirt dress (and I don't even love that because dropped sleeves) and the jersey trousers and the colours are dire.

botemp · 28/01/2021 11:25

Yes, my thoughts too Bani, for that money I'd happily spend a little more while staying in Paris to have a few days of classes. Turns out there's more than one course, one all about skirts (€750) and another gown (€950). The skirts might be of more interest to me.

The brand is Co'Couture, it feels a bit like a Scandi cheaper rip off of Isabel Marant. I quite like this rank top, but unfortunately it's all synthetic Hmm

I quite like these trousers from the U collection but my track record with Uniqlo U trousers isn't great. The flared skirt from the campaign also looks promising but dull in the product images, it could be good in RL, potentially. I also laughed at spotting that they have diplomatically taken a stance in our rank top wars by calling it a sleeveless jumper 🤣

Linen update: I just got some samples in from a German shop (very ethical lentil weaving and socially responsible with prices to match but they also sell some deadstock and remnants and I've found quite a few things I was looking for which I haven't found elsewhere like ramie) and it's all really lovely. Don't know what to choose... My scarf experiment is a no go, the scarves are all a different quality so it's just not going to work and the colours were difficult to match online, they don't really feel harmonious altogether either, keeping just a single scarf though, because it's nice 🤷

Maybe it was those trews I was looking at? Bet they're floppy though. It was the fabric that made those first ones they did so good - kept it's shape.

Pah! at sleeveless jumper. Pick a side Christophe.

Great news about the bus card banivani

I’ve never really though of leather tracksuit bottoms, but what a great idea. I spend most of my weekends at the park or on the strand looking in rock pools. I have leather leggings, I must give them a go and see how windproof they are. You look great 70sduvet. I snorted at the story of your friend!

Well done on completing The Shirt floisme

I read that article about the H&M x Simone Rocha sizing and it didn’t explain how they’ve magically turned 5 sizes into 7. Let’s be honest though, they could randomly relabel them and so one would question it just shrugging it off ask their usual bonkers sizing.

I love the idea of you and your friend promenading red.

Jumper picture attached. It’s neither the bright raspberry of the original pic, nor the burgundy of this one, but IRL is somewhere in between. I’m leaning towards keeping it because the colour is very good on me. In any other colour I’d feel less drawn to it. I don’t usually stand with my arm out like that, just wanted to show you the width!

I hear a lot of people are drawn to conspiracy theories in lockdown and I’m donning my tinfoil hat again as once more this thread overlaps with a certain ST column, behold the wonky waistband Raey jeans….

Speaking of Raey I saw these pleated trousers and thought you’d all appreciate them!

Gosh that Dior exhibit. What I wouldn't give to be heading to London to meet you lot for an afternoon at the V&A and scones.. .

I know Elle, an afternoon at the V&A and scones... the stuff dreams are made from! The red is a lovely colour and the shape looks good too.

banivani · 28/01/2021 19:54

Red that colour is great alright. I thought you were doing a French pose haha. Grin am
On my phone now so picture is tiny and I can’t comment on fit.

Love the pleated trousers. I keep getting ads for seezona.com that sell different brands and there’s a pair of super wide wool trousers there that are quite amazing. However the website is shite at least on computer and doesn’t even show the whole item when you’re scrolling the list and for a luxury site the filtering options are limited so feck them.

I also get ads from a Swedish hippie brand that make yoga kaftans or something equally made up. brahmaki.com/boutique/ You preorder and they make them and are offering 50% off and the wafty person within feels tempted even though I do not need a fancy dressing gown more expensive than the boots i keep saying I can’t afford.

Sleeveless jumper!

botemp · 28/01/2021 20:10

I predicted a bus card returning and the Raey jeans all in one day Halo (those Raey trousers are also on my wishlist).

I'm still waiting for Matches to do their 15% off new season stuff and then I'll get the jeans to try, hopefully there will still be some left.

Ah, I see the confusion with the jumper, it's not really down to the jumper, I think, it's probably that t
silhouette thing where a new silhouette doesn't immediately make sense within your existing wardrobe. A proper high waist would work but probably not tucked in, so sort of hanging over a sinched waist so you get a sort of shadow illusion going or slightly tucked in (but it risks going a bit 80s prissy). The Raey trousers would actually work really well with it but so would a high waisted skirt that just about cover knee high boots.

I'm completely losing track of time thinking of our V&A visit and it was only this time last year Confused , when in fact I was swanning around Paris with Elle last year. Sign me up for that on top of scones at the V&A, can't believe the V&A exhibit meet up was almost two years ago Shock

The Simone Rocha thing is whiffing a bit too strongly of BS PR. On a more positive note, even though I immediately wrote off Elbar Elsaz' (of Lanvin fame) newly launched brand after years of absence as a Kardashian capsule collection, it does actually come in size xxs-xxxxl, which is a bit of a novelty in the designer sphere. I must also admit I thought it was a bit of a gimmick initially but now having seen the lookbook (gallery at the end of the article), I'm finding it actually looks a lot better on the larger models than the smaller ones and I also quite like the throwback Lanvin looks at the end in combination with the newer stretch silhouettes although no idea where you'd wear that these days. On the fashion aspect I'm still a bit iffy on it overall, it's more replicating what people are wearing already rather than responding and drawing contours of what's next.

You're a regular Mystic Meg, Bo!

I agree completely on the Elsaz collection - not super innovative. And it may be available in larger sizes but only the "right sort" of fat bodies should apply. I do like the zipwork though, some of them are like jewellery and there is definitely a market. I'd say in 2021 it's a classic look he's showing and a lot of people want it! Pic 36, yellow with black skirt was cool and a historical throwback (also 45-47).

botemp · 29/01/2021 09:10

Yes, I agree it's the right sort of plus size body they cast exclusively, but that's the fashion industry, briefly jump on a cause and then find the exception to the rule to represent it. There's definitely a market for it, Boohoo with deep pockets, the old Hervé Leger bandage dress crowd, Versace before that, it's poorly catered to as often written off as 'bad' taste but it always gets the tills ringing. I'm not sure if he's jumped in too late though, we'll have to see, I'm encouraged about the more out there stuff at the end but Covid may have forced a focus on the stretchy dresses for commercial purposes. Overall it very much looks like he read the moment, instead of what's next but I'm trying to remember what it was like when he made Lanvin such a success, I don't think it was that innovative either but it was all very covetable. I was devoted to their balerinas as they had a clever engineering system within that made them really comfortable.

Dior's haute couture presentation was very historical, it's almost costume/historic reproduction mixed with 1910-30's orientalism. Beautiful stuff though, I also think the film medium works better for a haute couture presentation than runway (which, let's face it, has been a brand building PR exercise for years -decades even- now, it's just showing off technical sewing achievement that informs design where pret-a-porter does the opposite), the film narrative itself is a bit Confused though, have we really not moved on from women randomly making out, yet?

I also liked some of the making of the garment videos they made. Hope they release more of those.

I like the more cliche Parisian Chic look- you know the type you get on Capsule Wardrobes - Breton, capri, ballerina etc. It works with my style shape/colouring. Jean Seberg (I know not French) is the sort of vibe.

I wear a lot of black and navy, have a pixie, and wear a true blue red lipstick.

These are my new shoes for spring.... I have them black too!

I am looking for a 3/4 length trench which does not have a belt and is cut straight up and down. Anyone seen anything? Oh yes and I am poor so under £100 budget. Happy to buy second- hand - size 14. TIA.

PaulHollywoodsLowHangingFruit · 29/01/2021 12:06

This is probably a bit uniform for some people on here -but it works for me! These are on my current wish list- The White Company...

I'd say have a look at some Aquascutum coats on ebay, the beltless trenches are quite straight and less popular so they go quite cheaply. I can see several at around your budget and less on Vestiaire but they're mostly in Europe so they'd end up over budget once they get through customs but I'm sure there will be loads on offer in the UK.

Thanks botemp - sounds great Smile

Floisme · 29/01/2021 12:27

this is just over budget Paul - any good? Millerain is The Business for rainwear I believe, and it's made in Blackburn. I've seen it for real and want one myself.

I like those wide leg trousers are they White Company too? They used to send me offers but they seem to have given up on me.

PaulHollywoodsLowHangingFruit · 29/01/2021 12:48

Perfect Floisme. The camel is just what I am looking for Smile

The wide legs are White Company and one of the best quality things they have done in an age. The quality between the old black label and the new white label one is a shame. I buy a lot of the black label stuff second hand because of this.

Floisme · 29/01/2021 13:07

Hurray!

Yeah I had the sense that White Company quality had dropped off so thanks, it's useful to know what's still good.

botemp · 29/01/2021 16:57

I always mix up the white company and white stuff, and always think they're all fat face 🤦 I think white company are the one with sheets right? Those are also no good anymore, I believe, which is a shame as they had good fitted sheets for extra thick mattresses and those are difficult to find, I actually need to buy some new ones as two randomly ripped from age recently.

I've taken a punt on a Loewe dress on Vinted, the pictures weren't really helpful as it looks to be a complex design and it was laid out flat (I think it has a bare back, I may be completely wrong) but I loved the colour and I figured I can always alter it, if need be, as it was cheap enough. Nervous now 😬

elle the jumper is a great colour. Do you have any summer ?jumpsuits? All in one things? Why am I blanking on the common name.
I have 2 slouchy jersey ones that are great for summer but I've taken to wearing them with a jumper like that on top in the winter and it works well. You get the high waistedness and the warmth. And dont need to match.
Plus when you pull down the jumpsuit you can keep the jumper on so its not so cold going to the loo. :)

botemp · 30/01/2021 13:18

I'm intrigued now, playsuit or dungarees? Or just one of those sleeveless wombat suits...

OP posts:
70sduvet · 30/01/2021 14:00

Something a bit like this which it turns out the proper name is a jumpsuit.Confused
Looks a bit slobby on the hanger but is great on for a shove on and I'm ready and then has been rejuvenated for winter with a jumper over.
Possibly working best because its home time all the time

botemp · 30/01/2021 14:47

Jumpsuit then Grin I actually do something similar with cropped-ish jumpers over a silk slip dress, don't you have that Anine Bing silk skirt Elle? Maybe if you hoik that up a bit it could work with boots (chunky or knee high heeled ones depending on mood), although I do appreciate you're much taller so hoiking a skirt up may end up in hilarity Blush

ToEllewithIt · 30/01/2021 20:11

I like jumpsuits, but I find them hard to buy. I bought the attached everlane one but the fit was all wrong so it went straight back. The one I have, also attached, is quite formal but could work with the jumper over. I’m tall so I find them hard to buy to fit me as it’s dependent on so many measurements fitting. Good suggestions though. I have that skirt and a slip dress that might work. I’ll try them tomorrow.

Love the shoes PHLHF no harm in having a uniform either.

Flo that coat is great and the price seems good.

I’d love a uniform myself I think! Well I sort of have one I just can never find the right things in the shops.

I don’t understand, if you wear a jumper OVER a jumpsuit how does that make going to the toilet easier?

-17 here this morning but gorgeous and sunny - look forward to a walk later when it warms up. Wool wool wool!

Can’t wait to see your vinted punt Bo!
