Sorry, it's another no from me, the leather around the shaft doesn't even look thick enough to bind a book with. I doubt they'd survive a Swedish winter. And the zipper is weird, like they ordered a too long or too short one and thought fuck it let's go with it. Sorry, but I think you've managed to find the ultimate "that'll do boot" (would have been better if it was a shoe as that would have rhymed Grin)

I'm very slow with call my agent, only on episode 2 of it so far and that ended so sadly Sad Lupin has also been appreciated here although also not far into that.

banivani · 25/01/2021 12:32

Ha, the ultimate that'll do boot! V good. I'm not in love enough for 1300 SEK anyway, I think it's the colour and the seam right at the top of the foot where I get loads of wrinkles that annoy me usually and I felt the seam might distract. But I don't like the sole (boring) and really dislike the tab at the top. The zip does not annoy me, I've seen those loads of times, like the side zip in a dress. But NOW it probably will start annoying me haha. I wear thick wool socks and for average not-too-cold winter weather I actually prefer an unlined boot, they last longer.

Red, please post links if your googling is successfull! No skinny jeans are not me. Sole wise I liked those ones from Church I posted ages ago,but I really have it in my head I'd like dark brown. Possibly I'm being short sighted and cutting off nose to spite face etc.

Redandblue11 · 25/01/2021 14:45

A few results from my search ... but I can only find black or the usual brown, not the lovely dark brown.

Love the sole on the Daneborgs! Not so keen on the strap up top, I've seen it a bit too often (Johnny Bulls were really trendy here a few years ago and the straps haven't left). If it is functional I don't mind. But if they were lovely dark brown I'd def consider them.

Btw what is going on in NL - riots?

botemp · 25/01/2021 17:32

Oh is that reaching international news Blush it's not like they're storming the Capitol.

It's a bit of a perfect storm of bored youths, covid sceptics and hooligans egging each other on on Social Media, well some sort of messaging app called Telegram which is overwhelmingly young and male and always in the news when of those does some toxic shit.

It was to be expected to some extent as the newly introduced night curfew culturally doesn't sit well (people are overwhelmingly supportive and understanding but there's a bit of a Pavlov response of objecting to any signs of limiting freedoms). I think what took everyone by surprise is that it seems coordinated as it popped up in several places but that's probably more down to the SM aspect than that these groups have formed some unholy alliance. Some were targeting journalists/reporters though which is very concerning with the whole sceptic/conspiracy theory loons. Apparently more skirmishes expected tonight, hopefully not the same chaos as last night.

banivani · 25/01/2021 20:05

Yes you’re famous now. 😉 Seriously, it’s concerning that people seem ready to be violent but hopefully it can calm down soon. Meanwhile I’ll work on portmanteau words with “Dutch” and “hooligan” 😉

I found the nice boots Red posted in brown! For well over 200 euro so won’t be buying. Also they are lined with wool so only suitable for cold winter and I need something more versatile...

botemp · 25/01/2021 20:33

I'd go with "Hooligander" (hooligan + Nederlander) and it suits because I'm sure some Dutchy came up with he expression, what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Tbh, I do believe there are some serious concerns but I think an overwhelming number of them are brats that are still upset they couldn't light fireworks on NYE, and now will settle for looting the equivalent of Poundland Confused

Do they have Shabbies Amsterdam available on Zalando where you are? You might like those boots going by the Daneborgs, not that those are cheap but in the sale they may be an option.

OP posts:
banivani · 25/01/2021 21:03

Hooligander is perfect. Very cross that I didn’t think of it.

Ty for tip! They are indeed available on Zalando Sweden but only with one pair of their flat boots. I’ve looked at them before I realised but they’re 2300 SEK and I don’t love the sole so didn’t give them more thought. The hunt continues.

Floisme · 26/01/2021 10:58

You know what, all those knee boots look fine to me, including the pair you posted bani. I mean I can see that the thin sole isn't practical for a Swedish winter but, in terms of how they look, I'm not getting the problem. Short zip's slightly odd I guess but, provided I could still get them on and off, it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me. But I hardly ever wear skirts or dresses at the moment so maybe I just haven't got my eye in.
I do agree that a knee boot looks more streamlined and about preferring dark brown to black.

ToEllewithIt · 26/01/2021 11:37

I couldn't work out what was going on with those boots so I googled them and they have two zips on each boot. One on the outside which is the short zip and one on the inside which is full length. Which makes the outside zip decorative? Whatever about it being fine as a practical zip, it definitely isn't nice enough to merit being decorative! I don't love the colour. I think you'll find better. They're neither fish nor foul to me, not elegant riding boot, nor chunky stompy boot (technical term).

Still haven't decided on the jumper and I agree it's an occupational hazard of buying from trendy shops with models who looks like they're in the grips of a bad dose of the vapours. I usually try to look for the same item on a sensible site like NAP.

Floisme · 26/01/2021 11:48

Ah right thanks Elle well that changes everything. I really dislike unnecessary zips on boots and shoes - it just makes them more prone to leaking. The same goes for those ankle boots with both laces and a zip. Just no.

Redandblue11 · 26/01/2021 12:14

More boots
I did not know this website cavells, anyone familiar? I am kind of getting tempted by the penelope chilvers ...
Any you fancy bani?

Although I quite like the Pos Quintana ones too, but they are pricier though , just over £300

Redandblue11 · 26/01/2021 12:17

This one I like too, looks black but is actually a very dark brown

Penelope Chilvers is a bit of a con, they're essentially a private label. You can order the boots directly from Spain for much less. Don't know how it works out with import duties but they should be exempt as it's manufactured in Spain, so you'd just pay VAT, which you'd pay anyhow plus potentially a fee to the courier.

banivani · 26/01/2021 12:39

Wait what there were TWO zips??? I must be going blind. I thought it was ONE zip, but short, like the side zip on a dress. Just to open it up a bit when you put it on. One on each side is just mad! No no no. Dislike decorative zips (a personal peeve).

Elle would you photograph them on yourself maybe?

Red sure I daren't shop from the UK now because Brexit. I like that boot minus the tassel, I am not a folk dancer. Lovely colour and lining!

Flo sure I know, why do you think I float ideas here, sure I have no eye. Not for footwear!

You all think too highly of Swedish winters and what I need these boots for. I need them for when I want to swan around in my everyday town milieu in dresses or skirts, not for lumberjacking or traipsing through entire fields of mud. Reasonably durable is fine. The sole doesn't have to be Sorel -30 Celsius thick but not ballerina thick either. I just fancy a more rugged look, I think it suits me. Either rubber a bit desert boot style or a bit chunkier, like a pair of wellies.

Stumbled upon a Polish based online shoe shop trying to establish a presence in Sweden. Not sure if they are to be trusted yet. Anyway, despite the buckle and the iffy sole (slippery?) I quite like this one that comes in a warm deep brown and a colder version
www.eskor.se/klassiska-stovlar-caprice-9-25524-25-dk-brown-nappa-337.html

Not enough to buy them though I don't think, for that price. The site is worth a look purely because one of their own brand boots (I think) is called Eva Minge.

Arket sent me an email today with 20 % off sale price and I bought two midi dresses I fully expect to return. God I'm clearly dying to shop.

Redandblue11 · 26/01/2021 14:51

Bo what does it mean private label?
Yes I did look at that website but those specific boots where more expensive... I thought... unless I misread it.

Anyhow bani yes I would not trust to buy from uk either Wink now. I am sure you can find any of them in Europe?

banivani · 26/01/2021 16:10

Wait I missed the other pics Red. I seriously don’t feel like myself lately ... The ones called Melluso have a lovely chunk to the sole. Not bad ...

Also xposted with Bo so checking out that website now. Also wondering what private label means?

Brexit means the pressure is on to learn French properly and German a bit. AngryBlush

botemp · 26/01/2021 16:35

Private label is basically you go to a manufacturer, maybe change a few colours and finishes and then stick your own label on it as if it were your own design, when at most it's slightly customised and generally has a huge price hike but a very low investment. Very common in celebrity lines, especially beauty.

I don't know the price of the once you screenshot but Penelope Chilvers general starts at the £350 mark, so unless you're getting it on sale with a deep discount it's a lot cheaper directly from Spain with the link I added. Or I'm misunderstanding your question.

I'm imagining you're looking for something like attached Bani, but a rich dark brown, maybe not the two different finishes and definitely not the weird brand name circling the top and slightly more fitted with a zipper, but this sort of territory, no? Oh, and about half that price. moon on a stick 🙈

The eskor ones look nice and Valver de Botas has some nice options too. Either of these?

Quite like these Stories ones but price is a bit high and they're not brown. www.stories.com/en_gbp/shoes/boots/knee-high-boots/product.chunky-knee-high-leather-boots-black.0962298001.html

Redandblue11 · 26/01/2021 19:48

Oh I see, about private brands.
Yes Bo the ones I saw are discounted penelope chilvers at £230. But yes in general would be cheaper directly from Spain.
I like the Stories Elle posted too

First one: TWO buckles though. But nice sole. And yes tassel has to go Grin

Second one: Hmmm maybe but I’d have to have a better sole fitted obv.

Stories: ah now see that sole might be verging on platform and a bit too statement for me.

Not that I’m picky or anything. You wouldn’t know it to look at me because I always settle. Grin Bo - spot on. Those boots but change them. 😂 Sole is great though!

And now I get private label, that’s what Lotta of Stockholm or whatever she’s called gets their clogs.

70sduvet · 26/01/2021 21:22

bani I found these on la route I think they are 1160kr, £102 anyway.

I like the back zip but unsure of the two tones of leather and maybe the sole isn't stompy enough.

You also inspired me to put on some wool trousers today for a trip out out! It felt good to get out of loungewear. They aren't ideal on me as they are cut for an hourglass and I am very much a rectangle but I had so many layers on it didn't much matter.

I've sort of missed the conversation but I think there will be a revolt against "loungewear" once we are allowed out again. Ive been at home or WFH for years but I've never felt this blahhh. I've never thought of not dressing just how I felt that day but now its like a world obsession to be "comfy" and fleecy.

This recent lockdown has made me feel "what is the point" whereas I always felt before "I am the point". So is it lockdown or is it the media I am consuming. Nothing has changed that much, apart from meeting friends and family. But I'd often get dressed and made up for days at home with just my DH and DS. What has changed??? Tedium?

Though today at the hospital, where I was for my out out experience, I noticed more people dressed very well. Which is unusual, often it's full of everyone looking really bedraggled. Its outpatients so no-one is acutely ill. I think people are ready for the opportunity to look their best when the opportunity arises...just the opportunities are few and far between.

In saying that if you remember I did buy bottle green leather jogging bottoms a while back. Amazing! They are totally wind proof!
If I style them as intended with cream pump/trainers and a jumper they are a slight level up for home slobbing. But with thermals and boots I can stand on the beach for hours and be almost interested in buckets of rocks and dead crabs Confused

^“... lockdown has made me feel "what is the point" whereas I always felt before "I am the point"...”^

I agree duvet, here people are dressing up at the slightest opportunity. I have this friend who is always perfectly dressed, we always meet about once a week for a walk and we made it an (unwritten) rule to dress up when we both go for a walk BlushGrin I find it quite fun now and like the break of monotony.
Dress up - not dresses or ball gowns or sequins Grin just dress well as if you were going for a lunch in a nice city restaurant type thing. Eg nice coat / trousers / low shoes or boots , which for the most people dress very much for walking in the mud where I live as is a small town with tons of paths out in the countryside.
We are not the only ones though, a few more people I noticed make a real effort for their weekly coffee standing in the outdoors with their chosen one.
In a way I feel like in Bridgerton promenading ... except is not always sunny or full of spring bloom and no dashing Duche Grin

Redandblue11 · 27/01/2021 08:08

I want to see those green leather joggers ...
