Haha welcome lola!

Bo I slept until after 9 thankyouverymuch but had weird dreams to compensate. Why were you up at silly o’clock on a Sunday? I love that blue dress. I’m internetstalking a maxi length shirt dress ever since that silk one I didn’t get but my price point is different to yours Grin.

I don’t rate Afound too highly. I’ve been in a few times and seldom find something I want to try on. However I always find quite a lot of fairly nice clothes. I just feel meh about them. I wouldn’t go especially but if you have an errand in the same place you could go.

I thought Victoria Chan might be interesting to you! I thought she’d have more wool and silk too. This is the blouse I’m looking at but it’s mostly the material and colour I’m loving if I’m being honest with myself www.tradera.com/item/1630/387818221/viktoria-chan-blus-i-silke-storlek-l

The discussion above about frumpy florals - I’ve always been a lover of florals but I find myself going off them a little. Is it the frump factor ie with age I’m not carrying it off (at least in my head)? I’m very nervous if floral dresses for example and look at them even more critical and I’ve always been quite fussy about patterns. So much looks like mummy goes to a wedding.

Floisme · 01/03/2020 09:24

I like paisley and heavily stylised floral prints. Thistles are good. Bit of darkness. But I stay away from naturalistic, pretty florals and I'm sure there's something subliminal going on. Maybe it's because if I were a flower, I'd be long dead. Or something.

Hello lola!

botemp · 01/03/2020 09:27

Welcome Lola, I've been called many things but never a North Star. I'm noting it down for potential title of the next thread Star

Add an hour Bani, MN is in GMT. Although I probably was up at that time anyhow. Dress wasn't too bad, the one in Rotterdam was €220 which I did find pricey (it was a very hipster secondhand with new ethical brands and deadstock shop/boutique) but that price made more sense knowing the RRP. The one I bought was €91 incl. of shipping from France so it was a bit of a bargain in my mind. Still not cheap by any measure of the charity shop bargains mentioned on here but my secondhand habit is much more a replacement of superfluous fast fashion buys as there's just not decent charity shops around here. I'm not sure what a fast fashion silk dress would go for but I'm guessing over a €100, at least, in places like &Other Stories and Cos. €150ish and above in a place like Sezane.

Thanks, Afound sounds much like the online shop so I'll pass by if I'm ever there or more likely when they open up a shop in another city that I do actually frequent.

I like the silk shirt from Tradera. Get it already! I'm very partial to a tie up though, so I may be overenthusiastic about it Smile

Frumpy florals, let's be honest, they're probably the new Breton stripe. It's an easy identifier of people who dress to their environment -as in people like them all wear them so they do too by default, not to match their floral wallpaper, although metaphorically that's applicable in this case too Grin It really suits some though but it's rare.

Ds getting better , thanks Bo but now I seem to be lurking something as I am feeling really low energy and appetite. He seemed to have the sick norovirus type thing. As we did not have any flu like symptoms but only stomach sickness we were told we did not need to self isolate.
Very unusual for ds to be so sick.

I ended up watching random stuff on Netflix, the only thing worth noting here ... or maybe not?! You can be the judges is we watched Castle in the Sky by Hayao Miyazaki. They have recently put the studio Ghibi (spell?) films on Netflix and I intend to watch them all.
If you know what I am babbling about you might think what that has to do with fashion and style (japanesse child friendly anime) and the main cartoon female character Sheeta wears during the second half of the movie a yellow top with balloon sleeves... I want a ballon sleeve top, it would be dreamy in pastel yellow or sky blue ...
might be the excess of children tv yesterday that sent me into this irrational state Grin

Hello Lola!
Always nice to have an additional like minded (are we even like minded?!) you know what I mean .

I now also want something midnight blue ...
I feel that I will need to go back to bed soon.

Redandblue11 · 01/03/2020 10:08

Sheeta yellow top

Redandblue11 · 01/03/2020 10:12

Or I can just get the whole thing from eBay? 😂

This is what happens when you google in I’ll health Confused

Well I was briefly confused as I thought you were talking about Sky Castle which is a S. Korean show on Netflix that I keep meaning to watch (societal drama about performance parenting and getting children into the best academic positions possible and the people that make it happen, it was hugely acclaimed in S. Korea). I quite like Korean dramas (I ignore the fluffy romance ones though that make up the bulk of K dramas) as they're a decent length episode and they're contained to one season so very bingeable without feeling needy after and the subtitles mean I actually have to pay attention. Not very familiar with anime though.

They have shirts like that a lot at Monki and I'm now wondering why you're not browsing Monki more often Red, as a lot of it is probably your jam if you filter out the crap material stuff. This blouse looks a close match, sold out except in XL though but I know ASOS and I think Zalando also carry Monki and the shops often have better stock.

Popping in to say hello. I’m not even going to try and keep up with this thread as I failed miserably last time..
I really like a deep blue-purple (violet?) or an imperial purple. Both work well with greys I think. Neither are in my wardrobe at the moment but I used to wear a kookai blue purple fitted short sleeved fine knit with a cowl neck with a charcoal grey silk skirt. Both items long gone now 😬
Not been doing much shopping recently. Ended up getting a blue grey Rab jacket for (pre-corona virus outbreak) ski trip to Northern Italy. Perfectly functional but was horrified to see that 3 of my male colleagues were sporting virtually the same jacket.
Other purchase was these 7/8 cigarette trousers in Jaeger sale. I love them and have been wearing them loads, which is a revelation as I didn’t think of myself as a trousers person

Everything studio Ghibli is aspirational - when watching you want the food, the houses, the clothes ... it all looks delicious. I’m sure I’ve seen yellow blouses like that a lot, shouldn’t be too hard to find!

I bought the Victoria Chan blouse. Fingers crossed it fits ...

Redandblue11 · 02/03/2020 18:15

I know Bo I keep forgetting about monki, I have bought from them in the past.
Yes I know Bani not difficult to find just was my “in the moment” day dreaming

Festiva those trousers look fab on you, great to see you again.

I wore a silk rust coloured blouse today at work , similar to the colours in nature we recently discussed. I got compliments on it. I went safe and just wore my black high waisted trousers (buttons at the side), and I paired it with a chain with copper and dusty green stones.

And here is a partial photo of my new coat, I don’t have decent full length mirrors at work.

banivani · 02/03/2020 20:51

Festiva I love the trousers, such a good length that sadly I have trouble wearing (I end up looking a bit like an apple) so I’m very jealous, it looks so effortlessly chic.

Love that coat Red, love the texture!

botemp · 03/03/2020 09:13

Those 7/8 trousers look great Maxima! I'm always rather jealous of that length as that's about normal length on me but slightly too short to look any good and 3/4 trousers come up as 7/8 but are never cut right for it.

I am ridiculously excited about the Viktoria Chan shirt Bani, I hope it's actually any good 😬

Coat looks good, for what I can see of it anyhow, Red.

In other news, the Pope tested negative on the Corona virus (no idea he was actually being tested or that the poor man only has one lung) so the thread (and Pope purple) is safe for now 🤞

I’ve missed you mes Parisiennes.

I like the colour of that blouse Bani.

I do love a floral, but I’m picky about which ones I’ll wear. I have a couple of large scale Erdems which work well when you’re tall I think.

The Equipment dress is a bit of a bargain at that price Botemp and lovely and fluid.

Red I hear you on the cartoon fashion. I snapped this when the kids were watching something the other day as my immediate thought was Céline box bag - you be the judge… I visited the studio Ghibli museum and it’s absolutely charming.

Lovely trousers Maxima fantastic fit on you.

I like the blouse and coat Red - very chic.

Hi lola

I love the Mugler exhibition bo. I’ll drool over the album properly when I’m home. I love the black and shite suit though and the neon one too. I like that Bash top too, the back and colour are lovely , the front is only slightly off and I think it’s because the top can’t decide what it wants to be when it grows up: a shoestring strap or a wide strap.

I bought this top from Sezane which I’m really impressed with, quality is better than usual. www.sezane.com/en/product/preco-printemps-all-1602/norah-shirt?cou_Id=402

I'm just trying to catch up as the last few weeks have been a bit mad. Everything is all happening at once, mil's house and probate has come through, our carpentry/building work has started this week. So, I'm camping out in the sitting room, we have stuff everywhere from the main bedroom and mil's house.

I did do a charity shop run this morning, I picked up some straight M&S jeans that will need taking up, a knee length, pleather skirt, leopard scarf in taupe/dark brown and a snakeskin belt. I was quite surprised how many things I tried on were big around the waist, I'm quite straight up and down, so if they're loose on me, they're probably be loose on anyone more curvy.

Lovely trousers, festiva. They look really chic and very useful.

Redandblue11 · 03/03/2020 18:31

Yes Elle, very Celine box bag I agree Smile

Yes the coat is so light (weight) and soft so I am very pleased.

I think i missed your victoria chan blouse Bani, looking forward to see it.

Oh! You been to the studio Ghibli museum! 😍
My japan trip later on the year is hanging from a thread due to virus, a cotton very fine thread ... not this lovely thread sadly. I really hope to be able to go, I have been already but is my absolutely favourite place.

That sezane top looks lovely Elle.

Floisme · 04/03/2020 07:50

Nice to see people back Smile and thanks for all the great pics. I've just been trawling for images of florals I like and then promptly lost them all. But it was probably just a visual repetition of what I've said already: men's paisley scarves, skull and roses prints, dark, wintry, highly stylised etc.

I'm oddly drawn to the specs on that cartoon character Elle. I'm probably due a change of glasses in the autumn and, after at least 12 years of plastic frames, I'm toying with going back to wire. Is anyone else wearing them?

Redandblue11 · 04/03/2020 07:53

Those glasses look super cool, I wear glasses for work . Otherwise I try to keep contacts on.
But rounded glasses like that don’t suit me at all.
Mine are in a metal frame, not sure how to explain but I would say a classic shape.

Floisme · 04/03/2020 08:01

Yeah I probably wouldn't go for round. Or maybe I should and do it properly Grin I'm finding myself less and less interested in whether something suits me and instead I'm thinking more, 'Oh that looks interesting, I'll try it.' I need to go carefully with specs though as I then have to live with them, 16 hours a day for at least 2 years.

banivani · 04/03/2020 08:16

Yes but if you get a two for one deal you could get one pair of mad ones?

Floisme · 04/03/2020 09:11

Not from my optician. They're a family business, really great, big range of frames and, if I see some elsewhere/online I like, they get hold of them for me with no obligation to buy, and they let me take frames home for a few days to try out and show people. They have been endlessly patient with me over the years and as far as I'm concerned, they're a model of what a good business should be. But what they don't do are 'buy one, get one free offers'. They just can't compete on that score.

banivani · 04/03/2020 09:18

Then you should absolutely only go for frames you can live with long-term ;)

Floisme · 04/03/2020 09:30

Yeah that's the secret - so how do you all know when you've found the ones? I've found playing it too safe can be just as big a mistake as buying on impulse.

botemp · 04/03/2020 09:39

I like that we've moved from pretty landscapes to anime for inspiration now 😎 although, they probably shouldn't put us in charge of a cartoon, it would be all clothes, no plot...

I don't know, Flo, since glasses are such a rare sight these days I kind of want to seem them before I see you. Lovely Linda Rodin looks decidedly less interesting without hers, not even a bright lip does as much as the glasses. I like the hard graphic contrast of it and that doesn't have much to do with them being suitable in my mind. I'd try to find some wire ones that have a slim bit of faux tortoise rim to try too to enhance the graphic feel of glasses.

Sezane shirt looks lovely Elle, their silks rarely disappoint. Charity shop run sounds impressive quirky.

My testiness prompted by how lovely Elle's Chanel dress is made and how they just don't put that effort in these days has been soothed somewhat by this . Lovely to see a new generation with in an interest in the high craft side and that it's being propelled forward by new techniques. Now if only those never ending rumours about Phoebe Philo coming to take over Chanel are true...

That cartoon bag IS the Céline box bag - uncanny!

Clarification: even mad frames can be lived with long term. I've gone a little madder this last time (for me). The frames are a little oversize, which feels trendier. I know my husband doesn't like them much (result, let's face it Grin) because you can see the side of my face through them a little, you know, you get that sort of broken line effect. I don't think I got it quite right, but it felt a little more new and fun anyway. Like I wasn't being too safe.

I disagree with Linda Rodin's frames. I think they wear her to a rather large extent, which is fair enough and wear what you like and it doesn't matter at all until she takes them off and Some People (apparently) find themselves a bit deflated by her face Wink
