Oh yes, mauve, fawn and maroon? Actually sounds like a good colour combination.

banivani · 24/02/2020 16:02

Those are colours I always have to google.

Can confirm that original Ekholmsnäs was 350 sq m in total, plus two wings of 100 sq m and 80 sq m, respectively. Thank you internet for info.

Redandblue11 · 24/02/2020 18:43

I always have to google those colours too !
Quick time wasting in Oliver bonas while waiting for my train, I am quite drawn to these trousers and the pinafore looked nice too, although both don’t translate very nice in photo.
I saw a few things in yellow too which I also like and I think goes well with my complexion and hair colour.
No purchases just window shopping.

I think my 14yr old dd would probably have to Google them too I think they might be 70s colours.

ParisInTheSpringtime · 25/02/2020 21:56

@Redandblue11 I saw those trousers in OB and was tempted too. I do love Oliver Bonas clothing.

banivani · 26/02/2020 08:01

I'd like to see those trousers on a real person I think, I'm not loving them on the website and I can't put my finger on why. Could be the flares are a bit too flarey in the photos.

However, I've realised I have a pair of brown trousers and a top that purple orchid colour. So I might try to look like an amazing nature photo some day soon. Grin I need a warm top layer though and I only have fecking black or navy.

Floisme · 26/02/2020 08:51

I've never bought Oliver Bonas and it's partly because the fabrics always look a bit saggy and floppy as opposed to drapey. Cannot really explain the difference but it's there. Those trousers also look like they'd be calf length whereas I like top if the ankle. Good colour though. The first time I ever had a bedroom all to myself I painted 3 walls mauve and one brown Smile

quirkychick · 26/02/2020 09:56

I had a mauve bedroom as a teenager. Before that it was brown and white flowers (it was the 80s).

Has the virus hit this thread too? Very quiet in here...
I am myself watching out as have been in one of the affected areas, that gov advised to watch for any symptoms and self isolate if any flu like symptom materialises.
But little point in panicking.

Anyhow, with the drenched weather and the weekend looking again a windy dump not sure how everyone’s fashion is looking.

On the positive side, I got a refund from eBay on that skirt that I bought that was not new. Also received my Maje coat from eBay I think is a sample from the photo and I am more than happy, is an oversized cut and I love that the fabric is light so if really cold I can put chunky knits under and also transition to cold spring days.

Milan fashion week hit by 🦠 virus . I posting this clutch which I like because of its colour, the crafty look of it that against tailored cuts looks pretty cool in my book, and is inspiration to see what I have in my closet and can be repurposed? Ok I stop now

I have only bought tops from OB in the past, yes fabric can be hit and miss. But I do like some of its stuff, they can have good things.
Never been able to get on with its dresses, love the look of some but the cut never flattered me .

XingMing · 28/02/2020 14:05

AFAIK, there are no local cases of Covid-19, but my fashion mojo is dampened right down by the ongoing requirement for woollies and wellies. I don't use public transport or spend a lot of time in enclosed thronged spaces, so my failure to accessorize with a mask shouldn't be a problem. DH and DS have me prepping anyway so we can self-quarantine if necessary, and we are all careful about washing hands.

I love the pale Maje coat and the clutch, for all the same reasons as you Red. I haven't been shopping for any clothes yet this year. Everywhere I look online is still pushing high necked floral stuff in floaty fabrics, which really don't suit me and would not be very practical.

Redandblue11 · 28/02/2020 14:30

The Italians did not wear floral frumpy, they did classic cuts on dresses above the knee . The only floral I saw was covering the body of a British lady and in comparison it did look frumpy.
Now, I am a bit fan of botanical and florals Grin you know that , but as a third person observing I couldn’t help but notice that.
Not that dressing “frumpy” is necessarily bad either, if you do it with style that is normally doesn’t look frumpy but edgy or cool or whatever. Or is it cultural too? Dressing for the opposite sex vs dressing however bloody you like
Brit attitude?

XingMing · 28/02/2020 15:25

I do love floral prints... on other people! And frumpy is all in the eye of the beholder... Prada should be frumpy, but the extreme attitude de-frumps the look, until it's worn without conviction. And it's part-cultural and part age-related. I see their ironic take on middle-age and know that on me, it would turn middle-aged because I couldn't style it as they do without becoming bag-lady.

My eye and heart are pleased by the return of the 70s, and easy to wear separates. As I already have a lot of clothes Blush unless I fall in love or ruin a staple, I can be ultra-picky and recycle!

XingMing · 28/02/2020 15:30

Storm Jorge will probably discourage venturing far this weekend, so I need to plan at-home outfits to cheer myself up.

botemp · 28/02/2020 20:27

No corona virus impeding here but tangentially it has meant OH has been working from home with all business trips cancelled which has been, putting it lightly, a bit of a nuisance as he doesn't have much to do except annoy me Hmm

I escaped the cabin fever today by going to see the Thierry Mugler exhibition down in Rotterdam. It was really special, I'd seen the clothes in pictures before and occasionally in a vintage shop but it's really a different impact to see it. I felt teeny tiny (height wise) in comparison, very Amazonian woman.

I'd also always assumed it was designed for curvier women, but no, it's much more about making very straight up and down women into curvy women. It's kind of interesting that he's now so popular with women like Kim Kardashian and Cardi B who have argueably done what he does through construction and fabric through plastic surgery and who knows what else types of body modification which tied in a lot with TM's ideas about metamorphosis and his fascination with human beings as the most interesting animal.

I took loads of pictures that I'm not all going to upload here, I'll stick them in a Google album tomorrow and share the link. It's a traveling exhibit, think it was headed to Germany next.

Did a bit of secondhand browsing. Didn't buy anything, found the most perfect Equipment shirt dress (in black, but all the black pictures did not do it justice), unfortunately it was a size up and it really was just too big. Had it been cheaper I'd have taken the gamble and had it altered. Have been furiously searching online on the train back but can't find another anywhere Angry

Also found a bit of orchid in the new collections, although they called it figue violet Confused from ba&sh, I liked the colour and the scoop back but I wasn't convinced from the front and it's very pricey for 100% viscose.

OP posts:
Redandblue11 · 29/02/2020 12:05

That is a great dress Bo such a shame.
Yes the top is unconvincing from the front.
In fact I just realised that the top I am wearing is a dark orchid colour, is one of those jigsaw ballerina tops.
I need to be at home today and tomorrow looking after poorly ds. So seeing what I can binge on tv.

quirkychick · 29/02/2020 13:18

Some lovely pictures, as always. I'm also wearing a top that colour, a uniqlo fuschia merino that was I dyed purple and has ended up somewhere in between. I agree that the top looks better from the back.

I'm also very bored with the windy, rainy weather. The snow that was promised was just lots more rain. I seemed to have lived in parka and boots, I'm trying to make it more interesting with brighter scarves and a baker boy hat.

Floisme · 29/02/2020 13:21

All in rude health here and, to date, it's been a beautiful morning which I haven't really made the most of and it's probably too late now.

That orchid looks like a bright(ish) purple that would actually suit me! Lovely shirt dress but, if it's silk, I imagine the alterations would have been ££.

As you probably know I'm quite fond of a bit of middle aged / Balmoral chic but I've never warmed to Prada's take on it. I think it's because I always have the sense sense they're not so much being ironic as taking the piss. I might be totally wrong about that - I've seen very little of it in real life - but I compare and contrast with Vivienne Westwood who's always managed to be witty and outrageous while still making clothes that are kind to aging bodies.

botemp · 29/02/2020 20:28

Hmm, I think Prada chop changes their direction a lot so I can't really pin them down as ever being intentionally ironic. There's always a conceptual undertone that binds it but that's about the only constant. I think what can read as taking the piss can simply be too conceptual without a heavily staged context and therefore flops elsewhere. It's a brand that makes as many misses as it does hits and ironically survives thanks to its classic pieces that no one really talks about.

It'll be interesting to see where it heads next with the addition of Raf Simons alongside Miucca as it has the potential to eat itself by overindulging in the conceptual and over intellectualising it all or they could potentially healthily balance each other out and do something brilliant and new. Time will tell...

I will say in defence of Prada and kindness to non standard bodies, I used to wear it loads, the basic stuff, trousers, shirts, etc. Alongside Armani and a few other brands and anyone I know with my height or less and some curve will have work pieces by them. Nothing out there but just really well cut flattering things when all other brands were pretending women only came in straight up and down shapes of at least 175cm. Also one of the few designer brands that go up to actual large sizes and have been doing so for forever.

In other news, I think we've been getting it wrong, it's not orchid, it's Pope purple, obviously. Although the pope better not be coughing the Corona virus all over this thread Hmm Hope your son is doing well Red and that it's nothing serious Flowers

I've never actually had anything silk altered, if something needs to be taken in (hems) I tend do it myself by hand with a couture stitch as that's way better on silk than machine stitches.

As promised (although no one expressed any interest in the exhibition Sad) here's the Google album with all the Thierry Mugler exhibition pics.

😂

Popish purple is certainly a colour description we all understand anyway!

The TM exhibition looked very interesting. I am so surprised at how much I’m appreciating fashion as art these days. Thank you to this thread!

I’m a little all over the place right now because there’s a lot going on at work and I have a daughter who is moving out. Today was spent at ikea buying loads of things for her new flat and then a trip to pick up some second hand furniture. I’m so tired I’m too tired to even go to bed.

I did however manage to pop into a new second hand shop here yesterday, one that sells on commission and wants to focus on “brands”. Sadly I wasn’t too impressed, even though I hope they do well and get into their stride. They haven’t been selective enough I fear but sure we’ll see. There was nothing my size that caught my eye anyway. I’ve had a hankering for some silk blouses, preferably with a print, but no luck there so I’m back stalking Swedish eBay. And there I happened upon one from a brand I hadn’t heard of so had to look up – Victoria Chan viktoriachan.com/shop/. She has some nice things with fun structure. I’m probably sized out but I’m going to eBay stalk her a bit and see if something turns up.

botemp · 01/03/2020 07:23

Did you sleep Bani, you better still be asleep Bani Wink I remember you mentioning visiting an Afound shop at some point, are they of any interest? There's one that's just opened up but it's in another city that I never really go to. It's not far but just wondering if it's worth going to make an effort for. We've had the online shop for a bit but I've yet to be tempted by any of it as the H&M brands are just their usual sale prices and the designer stuff price points are highly inflated.

Ooh I like the look of the Victoria Chan stuff, although the dress I liked most was all synthetic Hmm

I think a lot of 'new' secondhand shops always struggle a bit with their stock. There's been quite a few that set up here but die out quickly (as the rents are astronomical here, you have to move a lot more stock quickly). The Instagram ones seem to do well here, but I really dislike buying unseen with no return policy (technically shouldn't be allowed by EU rules but I'm not really sure what the legal status of those Instagram shop accounts are anyhow).

Saying that, my persistent snooping of the internet has paid off with this secondhand find although it's new and unworn (the one I saw in Rotterdam was also 2nd hand and somewhat worn. They don't seem to do the dresses much anymore, only found them patterned new in a different model with a frightening €700 price tag, they're lovely but not that lovely).

I've snapped up attached dress which is also from Equipment and in my size (a very deep midnight blue, I have a shirt in this colour too and it's glorious) just slightly different model with a mandarin collar (slight risk as I like a proper collar but I do have mandarin collar silk shirts so I must like them 🤷). I'm pretty sure it's the same cut as the one I tried as I found an old listing of it here (you have to click on view product details) that has a little video at the end and it moves and fits and moves exactly like the one I tried.
