Good idea, I always forget about them!

XingMing · 14/03/2019 09:00

Mary Quant and Terence Conran exhibition anyone?

CatherineMaitland · 14/03/2019 09:57

There's a kaftan dress with a very plunging neckline at Uterque at the moment.

ToElleWithIt · 14/03/2019 10:26

I don’t know what to bring to London. I don’t really have a trench, so I may opt for the one coat I have that has a hood. botemp the wearing of green things is more a US thing. In Ireland we tend to stick to a large bunch of live shamrock (or else avoid the day like the plague). I’ll be wearing my green jersey for the match on Saturday.

Banivani – I really like your pink trousers love the suggestion of a burgundy with them or a grey or navy.

redandblue the pink dress looks great on you.

timeisnotaline blazer looks good and some nice styling suggestions there.

Flosime You definitely have to go to Cos versus shop online IMO, the quality is mostly very high compared to other high street offerings. The website is truly dreadful. I usually am able to get a reasonable feel from websites as to how stuff will look on me as the models are generally my height, albeit a size or two smaller, but I’ve never bought on line from Cos, the poses are dreadful and frequently obscure the clothes. How can you tell the length when the model is bent double? The fit is poor on the models because they don’t make small enough sizes for them, but use small models anyway… I like the look of the Zara trousers, but how disappointing on the quality. I think they are maybe inspired by the attached Dries trousers which are a year old. It might be worth keeping an eye on ebay in case a pair come up at a good price – 100% silk.

Nice things on Utereque

My swishy Arket dress already has a hole in it. Serves me right for not being pickier about the fabric.

Hmm, I think I'll leave the shamrock boob to KM. I have to admit I'm still somewhat 'traumatised' by my first St PD when I went to school with a lot of (Irish) Americans and was caught out being the only one without something green on, never having heard of the tradition. It was all fun and games tbf and fairly innocent but since I bruise so easily my mother was very upset when picking me up from school. Never witnessed any of it but think quite a strong word was had with the school.

The Dries trousers look like a much better original, Yoox may have them too?

Did get a preview of the H&M studio in today that had a bit of a Dries feel about it with the zebra stripes and utilitarian pieces. Quite liked the attached (a bit less obviously Dries), can't link as the H&M sites are very different regionally but I'm sure the preview is up on all of them. It's available from the 21st.

A great article, the attention to the small details is lovely to read.

Sadly my shirt for m Uniqlo was too large, even for the oversized shirt look so back it went.

Hope you all have a fab time at the Door exhibition. Looking forward to reading your reviews.

ThisNameIsDifferentFromTheLast · 14/03/2019 22:15

Gosh, that was clearly meant to be from and Dior
Hmm

Redandblue11 · 15/03/2019 07:49

It is a great read thisname, quite interesting to me at least who has very little no knowledge of how garments are constructed.

Have I missed it? You are a name change ... who where you in previous life? Smile

XingMing · 15/03/2019 09:49

ThisName, thanks for a fascinating read, a couple of the followers-on were good too. How beige became the colour of the year was also interesting.

KimchiLaLa · 15/03/2019 13:01

Hi all, looking for a website that I think Botemps recommended? It sold French navy surplus items. I want to buy a blue and white logo t shirt from it.

botemp · 15/03/2019 13:13

That's a great article, I especially liked the Lemaire leg of mutton sleeve. Left wondering if that's an actual technical term. Also interesting to see that the more obscure/under the radar brands I like feature heavily in it. I do like an interesting sculptural detail and definitely agree it's hard to find at lower prices.

Kimchi, I think you're looking for www.detoujours.com

Red, before I forget to ask again, where did you stumble across Madewell? John Lewis?

CatherineMaitland · 15/03/2019 13:20

The Vogue piece was great.

Love a sharp shoulder.

XingMing · 15/03/2019 13:29

IIRC, it was discussed early on in the lives of this thread. My bookmark history suggests it's called deToujours. Not sure about the .com or .fr bit though.

SlipperOrchid · 15/03/2019 15:27

Bitemp Madewell is the (younger hipper!) sister of JCrew.

Redandblue11 · 15/03/2019 15:58

Bo yes I sawadewell in the J Lewis in Cambridge (which is a big branch), I have not seen it in other smaller J Lewis (eg Welwyn which is 25 min outside London).
But I suspect the big JL in Oxford street will have it.

Redandblue11 · 15/03/2019 15:59

Saw Madewell
-b* autocorrect-

botemp · 15/03/2019 16:08

Slipper am I too old and unhip already? Shock Wink

Yes I'm aware it's the J Crew younger sister, never liked J Crew but have liked the look of it online ever since they did a Collab with Sezane. I doubt the fit will suit me as it's American but who knows, it may just be the unicorn exception.

SlipperOrchid · 15/03/2019 16:44

Ah right, I thought it was a new brand to you.

I tried to order from there once. Not a great experience as they never sent the item. When I contacted them, they said they had sold out of it but had not released the hold of the funds.

Other than that, I don’t have any experience other than once running after a lady who was wearing a beautiful dress. She turned out to be American and did mention she buys her clothes there as they sold clothes for taller women.

botemp · 15/03/2019 17:28

'Tall women' well that's me out Envy

Their CS does sound annoying, think Net a porter always sold/sells a small selection of Madewell but never the stuff I wanted. I'll check JL Oxford Circus if I have the time. Think my schedule is way too ambitious already and my flight is delayed (due to strong winds).

SlipperOrchid · 15/03/2019 17:32

At five foot two, I’m not their market either 😀

Redandblue11 · 15/03/2019 18:03

Bo wishing you a good flight and see you on Monday!

Just checked and Peter Jones (JL partner) stocks Madewell, that shop is in Kings Road, so monday we might the chance to pop there!
I saw a pair wide legged jeans online that I would be keen to try on 😃

stuff I tried comes up large, but was for me was solved downsizing. I only tried two tops so no masses of experience on other stuff.

SlipperOrchid · 15/03/2019 18:35

Out of interest are all the people going to the exhibition planning their wardrobe (apart from outerwear) in great detail. I would be so nervous meeting you all. You seem so knowledgeable and well addressed. I’m imagining highly groomed, sharp haircuts, stylish women. I hope you take a group photo, ibvwith blurred faces to protect privacy. Enjoy meeting, shopping (if any) and being together ladies x

SlipperOrchid · 15/03/2019 18:37
  • well dressed but my typo was probably accurate too 😀😀😀
Redandblue11 · 15/03/2019 18:46

Orchid if you see a group with berets and baguettes walking along Kings Rd , that will be us.
This is the look I am going for Wink
