Okay, kaftans don't do it for me but I'm swooning over CFranks bomber jackets and camisoles on the outnet. Flo could put any bride in the shade with one of those jackets!

timeisnotaline · 07/03/2019 11:38

Yes those prints are stunning. I couldn’t do a kaftan but some of those separates....

quirkychick · 07/03/2019 16:19

One wedding I went to the mother of the groom wore a gorgeous oriental print kimono-style suit (she was about 70, I think), it was black with a red a white Japanese blossom print. So sophisticated and a little bit rich bohemian (her husband is a retired ceo...). The pink Jackie K suit sounds fab, though.

Congratulations Maxima Flowers.

XingMing · 07/03/2019 16:27

My (second) wedding outfit was a Jackie KO dress and jacket suit in eau de nil. I wore the dress a couple of years ago, with a Zara/Chanel jacket, to my niece's wedding. It fitted, but a few more days low-carbing would have been better! They are a classic ladylike look, whatever your age.

banivani · 07/03/2019 16:36

I quite like the Kin dress Catherine, I think the collar is nice albeit slightly priestly (together with the colour) - but that, too, is a look.

Had to google Imogen.

My vote is DEFINITELY for a kaftan look. I vote for Scandi kaftan, not Riviera kaftan. Less Princess Birgitta of Sweden, more .. something minimalistic.

Floisme · 08/03/2019 09:22

So I come home from work to find I'm living on Ibiza with a toy boy and an Abigail's Party wardrobe. Grin

Mr Flo (who doesn't know about my new life yet) agrees the Jackie K suit is the best option from what I've got at the moment. I'm wobbling because:

  1. It really is very, very pink.
2 It was made for a 1960s waist so I'd have to eat no cake for 3 months or/and try and find one of those Playtex 24 hour girdle things. (Spanx isn't enough.) I might see about getting it let out - there's probably enough fabric - but it would leave marks and could mean a new waistband so it might not be in mint wedding condition afterwards.
  1. It's just below the knee so I'd have to either wear tights (which I hate unless opaques) or, even worse, risk being cold. One of the beauties of that Arket dress was the length.

So I normally just wear the jacket (which fits perfectly) but I don't think that would be weddingy enough. I'll take a pic and post it later but I won't be modelling it due to reason 2.

I think you should bid for that pink dress Red

Floisme · 08/03/2019 09:24

Oh I've missed the Kin dress - Thanks I'll go and have a look.

quirkychick · 08/03/2019 09:55

Going back a bit... I like the toast jumpsuit too, but prefer the one with sleeves that's quite slim cut.

I'm partial to a bit of boho, myself, but it needs to be heavily diluted. Though, I've just remembered a pair of bright pink, Moroccan leather slippers from Greenwich market, I used to wear Blush . I'm waiting for flo to write the memoir from Ibiza now.

I'm wearing my green uniqlo u jumper today with a pale denim skirt. I thought it seemed quite warm for cotton, but I have realised it's a cotton mix - don't know how I missed that - anyway, I have quite a few linen knits for proper summer, so a medium one is fine.

quirkychick · 08/03/2019 09:56

*medium weight jumper is fine, that should be.

timeisnotaline · 08/03/2019 10:45

Does anyone on here have young children/ babies? Trying to get dressed in anything beyond jeans and bf friendly top with them both to get somewhere on weekday mornings is beyond me. Granted these jeans are 13 years old (I had to work that out) but still...

ToElleWithIt · 08/03/2019 12:02

Time mine are 2 and 4. I'm back at work so I'm passed that stage, but it definitely is a bit trickier when you've 2 little ones to dress as well and grubby paws everywhere.

I found laying out clothes the night before for all of us helped - I got DH to do the kids'. I also wore jeans nearly everyday and make no apology for it, they're perfect for kneeling on a grimy church floor at playgroup, but maybe invest in a more-up-to-date style? A good pair of boots, a coat and a series of vest tops to go under my "nice t-shirts" to make them bf-friendly were solid investments. I don't think I wore my hair down all year though! Something has to give... Pick a uniform and stick to it in other words! Something like jeans, a top like this www.sezane.com/en/product/pre-collection-printemps-all/octavie-blouse?cou_Id=2673 with a vest under and boots / flats/ sandals was my go to.

Looking forward to seeing the suit!

banivani · 08/03/2019 12:07

Flo Pink jacket with widelegged grey trousers in party material?

time darling, my two big ones are in their early 20s and my youngest is nearly 12, and I still look like shit most days. If I can't be made gorgeous within 15 minutes I just accept it's not happening.

Floisme · 08/03/2019 12:19

That might work bani - I normally wear it with jeans but cue more rummaging for dressy trews this weekend.

Time my son is grown up now but, when he was about 2, I went to work in my pyjama top and didn't notice till lunchtime. I admire anyone with small children who has the brain space to think about this stuff, never mind do anything about it. (But hang on in there - before you know it, they're off, leaving you crying into your cornflakes.)

XingMing · 08/03/2019 12:33

Time DS is 20, but in his infancy, I was a freelance working from home. Before Skype existed, I wore whatever was lying around except when I had to go to meetings.

Pondering Flo's options... Pink jacket over a sleek navy jumpsuit perhaps. I rather like this one from COS.

XingMing · 08/03/2019 12:36

Yes, I know you said 'not sleeveless' but with a jacket over, and a tiny t-shirt underneath as a casual alternative look, it would earn its keep for me.

Floisme · 08/03/2019 13:19

Ooh Smile

banivani · 08/03/2019 13:46

That jumpsuit is very Flo I think (bar the lack of sleeves).

quirkychick · 08/03/2019 14:14

Xing that's a very nice jumpsuit.

Peregrane · 08/03/2019 14:16

I’ve been thinking of you Maxima. Congratulations !! And a big bunch of peonies for you 🙂Flowers

I hope it’s not a big flare-up bo. And that pink skirt is definitely in the try it on for fun category...

timeisnotaline · 08/03/2019 15:08

I love that cos jumpsuit. The shoes on the model are perfect with it- I’m not actually sure I have anything blocky like that.

timeisnotaline · 08/03/2019 15:11

And these comments are all quite good news. My as yet hypothetical youngest won’t be 12 for a good 15 years, I might have a handle on this by then Grin. Yes to Skype changing work life. My husband got his job by Skype and key advice was don’t just wear a jacket and boxers, wear full jacket and trousers. You never know when the door bangs or a paper is a bit out of reach and mid job interview you stand up without thinking and the panel get an eyeful of your lucky lobster boxers....

XingMing · 08/03/2019 17:11

I was just looking, on Flo's behalf you understand, but am quite seriously attracted by that jumpsuit. You could dress it up with jacket/jewellery, or down; I reckon it would be good for work if your office wasn't totally corporate, and I could see wearing it on holiday for city/sightseeing/shopping. Heck I might even try one on!

Love the lucky lobster boxers!

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 09/03/2019 13:14

Hello checking in on the new thread, so much I missed! Enjoying Flo’s sartorial flights of fancy.

Maxima congratulations on your baby!

time my two are almost 5 and almost 2. On home days like Elle I unapologetically wear jeans mostly alternating with trousers and dresses and skirts that are comfortable and can stand washing frequently.

On work days, I kind of hide from kids after breakfast until DP has cleaned them up 😀.

For both home and work days I have things that just go together and fit without me having to spend a lot of time thinking about it. And my make up routine takes minutes.

I’m supposed to be packing for my trip to Seattle but don’t know where to begin. It will be colder than here (temp -2 to 10 degrees with some rainy days) I imagine the conference hotel will be warm but I have a half hour commute to get there. Can’t decide whether to take my smart wool coat or big warm one (decidedly not smart but it is simple and plain). And need to think of some sort of capsule so I can mix and match so I take minimum things.... i hate this kind of dressing, when it’s not quite formal but you can’t do totally casual either, creative but serious industry. And need to be comfortable as will have long days with many meetings. Gah

banivani · 10/03/2019 10:08

The Seattle weather sounds a lot like what we have here atm. It’s shit. I’m managing with my wool coat (because I’ve been too lazy all winter to get my winter “padded” one up from the cellar) but it is 100 % wool and long... and I still have to layer a bit. So first question is how woolly is smart coat and can you layer without becoming marshmallow.

Mes amies, in honour of the thread title it is my pleasure to tell you that there is a high likelihood of me wearing pink this summer. Åhléns have widelegged linen trousers (my cocaine of choice) in a pale, slightly mottled pink in the new Carin Wester ss collection. I’m just going to hold on for a code for a bit. What does one wear with pink if one really prefers deep colours? Who was talking on last thread about how black with colours often looks bad? Anyway, I do think that will be the case here.

quirkychick · 10/03/2019 10:23

bani, would tonal work? So, paler pink with burgundy/berry shades or with darker neutrals of choice, like grey, navy, brown.

My dcs are older, youngest is 9yrs but due to sen more like 3yrs. I had a simple wardrobe of jeans + something in colours I liked, so quick and easy, also quick make up routine, so I could hopefully look ok fairly easily.
