It's finally properly warm here, and humid with it. I have just been down to my out of season box and exhumed the tropical weight stuff that last saw daylight in Antigua. Much more comfortable in maxi skirt (pre-loved £5.75) Tesco black ribbed vest and Rieker walking sandals, all from my 2018 shopping spree, for which I have completed six months atonement and abstinence.

Tomorrow I hope to splurge on new black mid-weight trews.

quirkychick · 26/06/2019 16:59

Xing it was like that here yesterday, I ended up having a second shower yesterday morning after I had been dressed for the morning rain and ended up very hot after it had stopped. Today was a shock to be so cold.

Some silver earrings from Etsy have arrived as part of my ongoing jewellery upgrading. These are to replace some silver plate hoops that are no longer so silver any more. I don't normally order from so far away, but these had a longer length option, they're nice and light too.

xibg i admire your determination! Well done! Those trousers are deserved now imo.

I like those type of earrings quirky I have seen them around and always admire them.

I picked up my order from Whistles and annoyingly the dresses do not fit well, I am not joking I ended up in the same shop trying other sizes and basically a 10 was too big in one that I needed an 8 and another I needed a 12! So much size variation in the same shop. I also tried this blue top which I thought could be useful or I could make it more summery with cream trousers... but I was so fed up with the dresses that I did not buy it. Looking at the photo is not that special anyway.
In conclusion I have not bought anything this season (other than a plain white tee the other day).

Just finished up the last minute packing, wanted to get it done at the weekend but it's been around 30° for the past few days so had to wear most of the things I wanted to pack and do a hand wash once worn. It's thankfully cooled down today (wasn't taking the heat that well) but unfortunately it's in the mid thirties in Paris 🤒 I have just under 30° to look forward to after the weekend but I'm not finding the weather prediction all that reliable so I've probably over packed.

Good to see the kitchen (almost) complete Xing, keeping my fingers crossed the trousers will be yours tomorrow.

Bani, you could have a look at the Uniqlo camis. They have built in soft cups, that are quite flattering and although they're synthetic they're part of the airism range which I have exercise gear from and it is not suffocating at all.

I'm not sure if this helps or would make it worse with wide shoulders, but you could try the ones with a row of buttons down the middle to help break up the blockiness of it and give a horizontal line, possibly? I saw some at Stradivarius in linen mixes last year, they may still have some again this year.

Sorry winter boots in my lexicon are knee high boots. See attached, I ended up returning them as they were knocking the backs of my knees. I'm not sure what the issue with me and that is, it didn't use to be a problem. I did end up keeping the ankle boots, I'd ordered them before at a higher price but wanted to wear them with skirts and it didn't really work but I now ordered them a size up and put my heel lifts in and they now fit perfectly and will work under skirts. They were a real bargain at €30 (real leather and one of those rare Zara gems that look a lot more expensive than they are).

Welcome areal, hope you managed to find out how to watch the thread on the app Smile

Shame about the Bobbies Festiva. Thanks for the LVL info, I do remember you having lovely lashes. I have the opposite lashes though, slight natural curl and very cross hatched in growth, even at different levels, it's always a bit more fuss when I get the extensions, a wrongly placed one can look a bit wonky so I worry I'd just end up with wonky LVL lashes 😬

Thanks for the article link Catherine, I'll have a read soon or maybe I should save it for the train to Paris. I've always liked CR, always has an air of dishevelment that sort of defies the expectation of that.

That mustard and ketchup combo always reminds me of school uniforms, those colours were of the best secondary you could go to on the island, named for some Saint I can't remember the name of. I don't dislike it though.

It's hardly been summer so not much repeat wear on anything, Red. The leather vagabond slides I bought last year have seen a lot of wear as they suit different temps pretty well. Think I'd like another pair in a different colour so will keep a lookout for some. New Céline trousers I've worn a fair bit as they still feel summery even when temps are low and colour is surprisingly versatile. Otherwise my new silk dresses from the Antwerp sample sales have been pretty brilliant in the warm weather, only downside is that they're so colourful and distinct that they're hard to pair with the sunhats I own. Not new, but I remain adamant that silk shirts are the best investment ever, even when sized up they never look too big and they work well across various temps. Oh and my H&M oversized linen blazer also worn a fair bit on account of weather versatility and allowing me to wear a coat without looking like I'm wearing a coat.

Oh, the Jacquemus order was a bit of a bummer. The order was split in two and they took forever to get a response when the rest was shipping, they got back to me in the end but it would never have arrived in time before leaving for Paris this week. So only managed to get linen trousers and a pair of jeans in, really loved the linen trousers but the 36 was too big and sat far too high (waist on my bottom ribs) and whilst the 34 fit absolutely perfectly it was too anxiety inducing taking them on and off over my thighs. Linen can stretch a bit with wear but I really didn't want to risk it. Jeans were too big, but a bit meh anyhow.

Pfft apologies for length above, to make up for it, I came across this new variation on the semi tuck. A double semi tuck, a folded semi tuck? I haven't given it a try yet, and am still wondering how it stays put but I do somehow like it.

bani, I have an airism top from uniqlo and can also vouch for it being cool in warmer weather. I think the looseness of camis combined with thin straps is what I find unflattering on wider shoulders. I have a drapey sleeveless top which fulfills the same function under jackets, but works better for me iyswim.

I like that double-whatever tuck, bo.

XingMing · 27/06/2019 21:23

I splurged. Yes, they cost a bomb, even in the sale, but so plain and perfect and a good trans seasonal weight. SO now, all I have to do is avoid harsh household cleaning chemicals. They don't even look fancy.

XingMing · 27/06/2019 21:37

But I have just bought DH a business class ticket to go back to Antigua in October for rnr with very old friends, against which purchase, my extravagant jeans are a mere peccadillo, no? He needs the holiday; I'd rather wear lovely clothes.

Redandblue11 · 28/06/2019 07:56

Oh! What are these perfect plain trousers Xing? Do you have them or are you waiting for them to arrive?

XingMing · 28/06/2019 09:44

Annette Gortz, style Dany. In a rush to pack and getaway for the weekend but will find a link on my return.

Floisme · 28/06/2019 09:59

Very pleased to hear about the trousers Xing. I found an Annette Gortz skirt at a second hand market last winter. It's a really interesting shape without being too out there. Unfortunately it's also too big and I'm not sure if it can be altered without losing the effect so it's still in my 'was that inspired or a mistake?' pile. But you've talked about her before so I'll keep a look out.

What in the name of fuck is that folded tuck thing? It's going to fall out as soon as she moves, surely? The half tuck's nearly over isn't it? Probably already is in hipper quarters. I shall be sad cos, for messy dressers like me, it was a trend from heaven.

banivani · 28/06/2019 10:42

I’ll pop by uniqlo on the aforementioned Sthlm trip and try on the airism but in general I want to move away from synthetics so it might not be my thing. Side note: they do built in bra camis/vests and dresses with no sleeves and short sleeves, but no t-shirts with built in bra? So stupid. I’d have bought them for Pilates.

I am not convinced by that tuck Bo, it looks too artificial for me. The beauty of the halftuck is the way it looks unintentional. That one looks like an Acne ad, intentional as hell! But I look forward to your interpretation of it, I’m sure the right person can pull it off 👍🏻 Also I admit I am not an adventurous dresser. Apart from apparently MUSTARD AND KETCHUP well that killed that colour combination for me stone dead thank you 😂

The Zara boots looked nice! Pity the fit was bad.

Floisme · 30/06/2019 11:04

Went to a vintage fair yesterday (partly to get out of the heat although it wasn't of French proportions) and the first thing I saw there was a top from Asos Hmm
But I then checked and Asos has been going since 2000 so technically possible.

Spent the rest of the day thinking about mortality, but snapped out of it long enough to buy a John Smedley fine merino top (probably more modern than the Asos) and a bag of 1940s buttons.

Morning, temps have finally dropped a bit and I can think coherent sentences again. Haven't done much shopping as been thoroughly taking advantage of the cheap subway tickets and all museums waiving admission because of the heat. Did do a quick run through the bargain section at Le Bon Marche yesterday but was mostly cursing Elle, as there were lots of lovely things like a pair of wool black Givenchy trousers for €150 a gorgeous Gabriela Hearst navy suit €600(I think), an (old) Céline shirt dress (no price) and it all was her size Envy I'll have a proper rummage and shopping sessions today and tomorrow, and probably Wednesday and Thursday too.

I have picked up a few things so far, attached silk camisole in red from ba&sh and a slim brown leather belt, marked down to 60%. Camisole is a bit oversized on me as it's a size up but I feel it helps take it out of the bedroom a bit with it being red and lacy.

Also found these Marni tassled mules, my plainer Vagabond mules have been pretty versatile and though not worn out yet I was on the lookout for an upgraded version. I did worry about the tassles as most tassley things turn me into a mousy librarian, and not the secretly sexy kind, but these don't really read as tassles when on.

Haven't bought and is probably going in the hall of fame with things I really really love but know I shouldn't buy along with THE yellow Jacquemus dress. Chloé silk tulip trousers. I luvs them but they're a fair bit more than I'd want to spend on trousers that would see the light of day a scant few times a year and I'm not convinced the colour is that versatile. It worked great with what I was wearing but it's a dress and I'm not opposed to wearing dresses as tops but the sides are open quite high up so it just doesn't work. It's a sort of lilac grey colour, it's the lilac that concerns me, it's really a colour I otherwise avoid at all costs.

Owning up to I may have issues, also managed to pick up these Ganni trousers in the 70% off on the way to the station back home (excuses: taxi arrived way too early, oh decided he desperately needed a falafel Hmm I trekked into the department store across the road that's right by the station Blush). Admittedly they're quite similar to my recent Céline trouser purchase but these are more of a true off white, I've bought them with the intention to wear them in winter as they're just a thick non stretch denim, they're slightly cropped on me so with ankle boots they'll be far up enough from sleet and grime.

Also tried on this Lemaire top yesterday in a forest green but whilst nice I think it's just too heavy a fabric for the intended weather. Sorry had to mega crop as I was wearing nothing underneath, hope it's not too fuzzy, lighting in that fitting room was crap too.

I can’t manage to access the site. I’m having trouble with the cookies so I haven’t posted as much lately as I find it a bit tedious to type on my phone.

In terms of most worn pieces this summer I’d have to say longer-length dresses. If they’re below the knee I can mostly get away without tights which is a lot more comfortable. Photo attached. A shout out for cardigans too, helping to bridge the gap.

Has anyone ever bought from Wisner? I saw their silk shirts in a shop at the weekend and the fabric felt really great. I didn’t have a chance to try them, but I’d be tempted.

I tried lvl lashes and the effect was quite nice. I couldn’t help but wonder was it just a rebranding of what used to be known as an eyelash perm? [/carriebradshaw] I haven’t had it done again which probably says it all.

The shirt tuck looks a little “accidentally tucked my shirt into my knickers for me”.

Glad to hear about all the errr “vintage” finds. Mind you, I’ve see a dress described as “vintage Zara” lately so I don’t’ know why I’m surprised.

botemp don’t suppose any of those bargains are online? We need to swap cities, mine was full of size 6s although I didn’t see anything especially notable. How did you leave the tulip trousers and especially the Lemaire top? The top is absolutely gorgeous. What was the fabric?

bani I did laugh at your trouser colour combination conundrum. It’s like one of those logic puzzles where you have to get all the animals across the river, but you can’t leave the cat with the dog because they’ll clash….

areal welcome

Catherine nice linen dress, the brown colour is lovely.

Oh those Chloe silk trousers Bo!!! Love.

I need more dresses below the knee as the one you show Elle

I was incidentally right now looking at the Gani website when I read Bo’s purchase. That is a good buy! some things were catching my eye.

I went to the ball on Saturday and it was one of those unusual English evenings were well past midnight I was with sandals and scrappy dress and I did not feel cold at all.
I ended up buying a dress on Friday very last minute, %70 off, green pleated with thin straps. As being the hottest day of the year I couldn’t bare the tought of wearing anything remotely uncomfortable. It was too hot regardless but all seemed to have a great time.

quirkychick · 01/07/2019 15:29

Lovely silk trousers, bo. The Ganni ones are nice too.

Talking of what we're wearing, I quite like a version of the very chic Garance Dore. Shirt/blouse + slim trousers/jeans + strap sandals for the warm, but not totally hot weather.

Saturday was roasting hot and I went for 90s retro (actually original 90s clothes, obviously better made then) of jersey, sleeveless, drawstring neck top and linen wrap around trousers both in brown, with sandals. I was going for the faux jumpsuit look, but actually it was more tonal as the browns didn't quite match.

Floisme · 02/07/2019 08:16

Yes you've done it again with those Chloe trousers bo. Gorgeous. But I can imagine you'd have only got about three wears a year out of them so I will say no more.

Going back to the tucking question, I was admiring Kylie's white trouser suit on Glastonbury the other night and couldn't help noticing that her shirt was not only tucked in but also looked absolutely right and modern that way, dammit. I think my five minutes in the fashion sun are up.

And, in other pressing matters, how did she keep that jacket slung over her shoulders? Was it velcro'd on?

botemp · 03/07/2019 06:50

Ok lots of pictures from Monday, let's see how far I get before MN pull up the maximum image thing. Yesterday went vente depot and vintage shopping but don't have much pictures from that as you're usually lucky to get a fitting room that somewhat closes off never mind a mirror inside it.

Elle the 24s.com site from Le Bon Marche does have a lot of 70% and 80% pieces but it's not quite the same as the store discount as those pieces now have a further 30% off the already staggeringly lowered prices.

I bought more white trousers 🙈 it was a lot colder than anticipated, especially in the morning and evening so just wanted something warmer and stumbled upon these in the first Cos shop I entered. I really like them though, 100% cotton and it worked with what I was wearing already.

In other news I'm being haunted by THE yellow dress, probably an evil sign I should succumb to Chloe trousers, but I'm still adamant the arguments against them stand. So I came across the same dress in my size in the bargain corner at Lafayette in beige

Bugger it wrong pic previously, third pic is the Sies Marjan dress described below. Pic order here is beige Jacquemus dress from previous post followed by yellow one and another beigey yellow one described below.

Then can across another yellow Jacquemus dress which clearly displays it's all about the colour but it was too big and I think I need to be a fair bit taller to make that work. Was a general theme with the Jacquemus dresses I tried on. They all made me look like I was melting into the floor Shock

Also tried on a Sies Marjan dress in Barbie pink which somehow was a bit matronly on me. It's the cap sleeves, I think, they've never been my friends.

Another Jacquemus shirt dress, felt too big on top and too short below.

Jacquemus in general is becoming a bit annoying, fabrics aren't as nice as they used to be and the styles are getting a bit repetitive and walking ads for tit tape. I liked the denim skirt though but this was too big, they said it came up small but this one is two sizes up.

Isa Arfen dress which I did really like but it felt a little too 'good taste', versatile, can wear it anywhere etc. I had them put it aside as I couldn't make my mind up but decided to leave it for being too sensible.

Other sensible option, with the Chloe trousers in mind I headed to See by Chloe as they always trickle their designs down and lo and behold in the A/W collection they have a more sensible version of the silk trousers. Colour is similar, just slightly deeper and whilst I do sort of like it, I'm not convinced by the material being half polyester. And it's not THE bloody silk pair.

Lemaire top alternative but the combo of the trousers and top was a bit too confusing and I think the somewhat pear silhouette would b more emphasised with something straighter below. now circling back to the forest green top again. Which is cotton btw Elle, with a viscose or cupro lining.

Everything was 70% off at Victoria Beckham but I forgot she vanity sizes Hmm so most of it came up too big. Shame because I really liked the orange vibes.
