I'd wear camis if only they had sleeves Smile
If I get a hankering for something that's not normally me I usually take it as a sign that there's something missing from my wardrobe. Sometimes I'm just pining for a touch of something luxurious. Or even frilly. My style's a bit on the austere side at the moment but I've always had an inner Grace Kelly too, and there are times when I just have to listen to her.

I've been struggling a bit with colour too this summer. I'd slipped into wearing far too much grey (see above point) so I'm trying to break out but I seem to have forgotten how to do it - or maybe I never did it well but just didn't notice. So like you bani I'm wearing a lot of dark green with ... lighter green etc etc and hoping that matchy matchy is about to make a comeback.

Xing what style of jeans are you after?

I'm afraid I can't help with the app either areal but hope you find your way back soon!

quirkychick · 24/06/2019 16:47

Hi areal, the android app has the word "bookmark" and a little sign under each post, if that's any help. Also, if you've posted on a thread, you should be able to find it on the threads "I'm on" button, mine's at the bottom of the page, but it might be different on your iPhone.

That's lots of trousers, bani Grin. I think I need more summer trousers. I have a couple of very loose cotton and linen pairs for very hot days, but need some for warmish days, I think. Last year was so hot for days on end, that I didn't really need to dress for those warm in between days, which are much more typical of a British summer tbh. I also bought a few skirts last year, instead.

Redandblue11 · 24/06/2019 17:07

All I will add on the IT front is that the “threads I’m on “ only appear if you post , e.g before this post mine was empty as I had not posted for a couple of days. So on the top right there is this little arrow and you click and add “watch this thread” so you can find this always under Threads I’m watching.
I do not use the app.

Redandblue11 · 24/06/2019 17:14

That is a shame about the sandals Maxima, I had high hopes!

Re colours, I think I am becoming too safe this summer... except some days were I go back to my “old ways” and do a lot of clashing . Some weeks I am consciously trying not to became too boring.
Although today in my current work clothes I certainly made a mistake, not huge but certainly feel like a mistmach of styles , at least I did not go crazy on the colours.
I have not had luck on the sales yet, I am returning some work dresses as they fit awful so I have tried and ordered from Whistles another couple to see ... mainly for work I will report if any good.

CatherineMaitland · 24/06/2019 17:34

I've just bought these from M&S for the summer heat, if there is any - casual and simple.

www.marksandspencer.com/pure-linen-3-4-sleeve-shirt-dress/p/p60226536?image=SD_01_T42_5646_VS_X_EC_90&color=TAN&prevPage=plp

Had to go down two sizes though, I know they are meant to be loose but at my normal size they were in billowing marquee territory.

Welcome areal.

I always feel like I'm not wearing enough in a cami but I like them under blazers.

XingMing · 24/06/2019 17:54

The jeans I tried on are perfect as they are not denim but a hefty cotton twill. Full length leg, quite wide and plain, subtle seam placement detail, and zips on the side seams -- the only thing to make me [sceptical]. However, they are pricey so I'm holding off a few days for the 35% markdown! But I'd like alternative ideas; I just don't expect to find much locally and I want to try before buying, without serial returns.

CatherineMaitland · 24/06/2019 22:46

Saw this in the Guardian, thought it might be of interest:

www.theguardian.com/global/2019/jun/23/carine-roitfeld-rules-for-chic-french-vogue

She favours the aesthetician Hervé Herau for her own skin treatments, which she suggests are just a bit of cream, really.

ROFL the bloody French eh?! Grin

Flo, I think you're right, I feel something is missing and so I'm looking at camis. Maybe it's necklines, maybe it's some other style yearning. Possibly, since I've been wearing this long black shirtdress over everything to hide my arms, I wanted something sleeveless but interesting under it.

XingMing · 25/06/2019 09:37

Thanks Catherine, I enjoyed the read but now more convinced than ever that French chic will continue to elude me! my il faut souffrir pour etre belle moments are behind me. It doesn't read as though she's in great skeletal health...

Redandblue11 · 25/06/2019 11:52

Xing I do not have trouser suggestions unfortunately.
I know what you mean about serial returns !! I hate that, I normally order to a shop near work so I have the chance to try and return there and then as they did not have in stock the styles I wanted to try.

Yes to a cami under a blazer, I tend to like the neck line it gives. Glad to hear the rash is calming down Bani I hope it is history soon.

Oh I forgot to thank for eye shadow responses. I will keep doing this nude concealer that I normally do , yes I think is best to accentuate lashes.

I had read that article too Catherine I found it amusing.
Oh that M&S dress looks good, what colour did you get?

So ... a question for you all: what item of clothing are you favouring this summer? if you have to choose only one, which has proven the most useful that you have been able to wear multiple times and feel good in it? If you want to share a photo of it (even in its hanger) even better.
Grin

quirkychick · 25/06/2019 13:54

Nice dress, CatherineMaitland. I have a similar Farhi one from tkmaxx that I`ve just slightly altered. Taken up an inch or so and added a little vent to the sleeves (too tight across the shoulders when dealing with dd2).

Interesting article, I love the way the French just play down what they do to make it seem effortless.

I'm not sure about what I'm wearing lots of red apart from a raincoat, so far. I know what you mean about playing it safe, I feel I've been wearing variations of t-shirt and jeans mostly. I did manage to wear my Thai fisherman's trousers with gladiator sandals on Sunday, for the first time this year. I've been looking at animal print accessories to try and liven things up a bit: bags, espadrilles, skater shoes...

XingMing · 25/06/2019 16:41

Useful little dress that, Catherine, and good to see that M&S can get right occasionally.

Apart from the black jeans I haven't bought yet, I am wondering what to wear for my younger sister's 60th birthday barbecue on Saturday. It could be very warm. Wondering about some cream linen trousers I haven't worn yet (bought last year) with a Ba&Sh blouse, or whether to save that outfit for DMIL's 90th.

Mostly I have been wearing practical jeans and T-shirts for endless visits to the tip, and exercise wear. It will all change now if the heatwave happens...

Redandblue11 · 25/06/2019 19:08

Xing just saw this and wondered if it would be any good for your black trousers hunt?
Monki Black cotton
other monki black trousers
I have a pair of monki jeans that I like very much.

Floisme · 25/06/2019 19:24

So I drink espresso and only take selfies when I'm trying stuff on (cos I don't trust mirrors any more). But even in my wildest days I always took my make up off before going to bed. Chic or no chic? Agree with her that only younger people think wrinkles are the main problem with ageing. I really feel for her with that back.

Needless to say my most useful thing so far is the Protected Species mac but I've gone on about that already. I'm also working the Margaret Howell trews very hard and enjoying the Burberry I found last year, although it's very much a swanning around and posing coat. The midi length feels so modern this year which is a bonus.

Cream trousers sound lovely Xing although if you're half as messy as I am will they survive a barbecue - or recover in time for your MIL's birthday?

Those Monki trousers look nice ...

XingMing · 25/06/2019 20:38

Thanks Red. Both images are lovely, just a little wider leg than I have in mind.

Flo, I'm doing my cooking bit before I turn up so I can change! Otherwise, no chance.

CatherineMaitland · 25/06/2019 21:06

Hm...my most useful item so far would be last year's utility trousers. It just hasn't been warm enough to wear dresses or sandals but the trousers are cotton and quite light so nice when there is a bit of heat.

banivani · 26/06/2019 09:21

Summer has barely started, it’s too soon to tell! So far it’s the aforementioned shirt dress which I fling on over everything. But I’m hoping to abandon that soon.

Catherine I’d love a dress like that, such easy, comfortable dressing! I’d worry about the waist though because I want it to feel “slim” and not too heavy when the material is gathered (god I’m so choosy).

Welp, today I tried terracotta trousers and yellow t-shirt. All my colleagues commented when we had fika just now. One said McDonald’s colours 😂, one said saffron and turmeric, one said you’d feel happy looking at the colours anyway (I replied yes but is that really the message I want to send at work haha)... pic included. It’s a bit preschool isn’t it?

Les Parisiennes des Mamansnet: See life in pink, but do not wear it!
XingMing · 26/06/2019 09:37

Saffron and paprika in my view! Bani, I like the combination it's an unapologetic clash. More art teacher than pre-school IMO.

quirkychick · 26/06/2019 09:41

The trousers look fuschia on my phone, bani. Shows how deceptive colour can be on screens. Yellow and terracotta sound like sunset colours to me.

I'm thinking utility trousers or mid Wright cotton trousers of some sort would be useful.

Redandblue11 · 26/06/2019 09:42

I do not know what I was hoping, well o know I wanted some miracle inspiration as is a bit sad that my best item so far proved to be the trench , followed by some old black culottes I wear for work... on an ideal world I have liked to be wearing more dresses and skirts by this time!
Ok enough complaining about the weather.

I really like that colour combo “Bani”, I think you do want to send a happy vibe at work , then again I suppose it depends on the industry.
I personally do not think is pre-school at all.

Redandblue11 · 26/06/2019 09:45

Out of curiosity Bani you said all your colleges commented. Is it mainly female or are there males as well? Just curious as the males in my office never comment on such things.

banivani · 26/06/2019 09:55

There is nothing wrong with art teacher, preschool or even Kettlewell colours ad, but I'm just not sure it is for me at work (granted we have no dress code apart from "be dressed"). But thank you all!

Red, come back to the question in August Grin.

CatherineMaitland · 26/06/2019 10:40

It doesn't feel heavy to me bani. But can see where you are coming from. My main problem is a biggish chest moving the waistline up, I find they work better if I don't draw the waist too tightly.

quirkychick · 26/06/2019 12:12

I've just reread my post, that should read mid weight cotton trousers. The joys of autocorrect.

I don't feel I've really got into wearing summer clothes properly, apart from the odd day. Today is cold, and after freezing at school sports day I've taken off my light blazer and replaced it with a navy jumper and cashmere poncho. My white striped shirt and blue colour block scarf (that I linked to upthread) are summery, I suppose.

banivani · 26/06/2019 14:18

Cat that's another annoyance, I agree. I've been wearing jersey for so long I'd forgotten.
