I forgot to say- Flo, I am very envious of that outfit that you wore with your friends. I wish I had those pieces, sounds fab.
Same goes for the pink suit Envy
So after all it seems it will be warm enough for me to wear the pink finery dress to Chelsea. I will be on my feet the whole day, so I will do white sneakers with it probably. Can I pull it off? I will have to... as otherwise it will genuinely be torture.

banivani · 19/05/2019 22:42

I’d wear the sneakers. But I’m a comfort person. And I think white sneakers do go with most things. Also fuck it. 😉

I’m having an odd experience of being drawn to something I shouldn’t be drawn too. An animal print t shirt. I hate animal prints, it’s one thing I am normally consistent about. Leopard is a neutral my arse. But... this one is snake print which always gets under my defences. Plz help me. shop.mango.com/se-en/plus-size/t-shirts-and-tops-printed/snake-linen-t-shirt_41015801.html?c=35

Redandblue11 · 20/05/2019 10:12

Grin Bani , snake print is not something I would wear in spring / summer. Somehow I associate it with winter?
Is a nice top tough, although not for me. However on you might look good?

So hoping for good weather, now is going to be too sunny tomorrow in Chelsea!! So I had to do a last minute change of packing this am ... I am bringing two cotton dresses and I will decide tomorrow... except that if I have forgotten to pack the right bra the choice is narrowed to one of them... Both are fitted at the top then an a-line (Fullish) skirt coming mid leg, those are the best shape for me as summer dresses go and I always feel great on them, with white sneakers that is.

Floisme · 20/05/2019 10:31

Wow that snake print looks very ... um... realistic bani I keep telling myself it's just like a paisley (of which I am very fond) but I can't unsee it now. Grin

Not sure why I'm saying that - I know nothing about snakes and don't really have strong feelings about them! It's a nice shape, I like the colours and looks as if it hangs nicely, possibly a bit low or wide on the chest (for me) but I'd have to see it on.

The dresses sound lovely Red - I've been hooked on the Paris wedding thread so I now have a thing for full skirts. And sneakers are a good choice if you're on your feet all day, as well as being cool at the moment so win-win! Hope the weather comes good and you have a great time.

banivani · 20/05/2019 10:40

I'd love to see a photo of the dresses Red. :) Sounds so summery and lovely.

The colours on the snakeskin top are nice, aren't the? But it's still fecking snakeprint. I am so confused.

botemp · 24/05/2019 10:25

Bani, of all the animal prints I seem to mind snake skin the least, unless it actually looks like legitimate snakeskin in clothing. Don't mind it all in accessories, unless it's the real thing, creeps me out.

Anyhow, I like the look of the linen tee with the electric blue, I'd try and see.

Oh, and how are the kitchens coming along? Xing, yours must be near completion by now?

OP posts:
Floisme · 24/05/2019 12:24

While we wait for news of kitchens and snake print and the Chelsea Flower Show, here's Suranne Jones aka Gentleman Jack with my new favourite look.

I wasn't a fan of those big sleeves the other summer but I thought they looked stunning when set against such a severe outfit. (I couldn't find a full length pic that did them justice.) And of course the hair, like Princess Leia's favourite, slightly batty aunt. So cool.

It's taking a long, long time but once we see Paddy the plumber again (he's been on his four-yearly recertification course all week) it should happen much faster. The units are installed and fitted, the range is in place but not working as it needed conversion jets for mains to bottled gas, and the store forgot them. Counters are in place but waiting for the plumber... Sink went in yesterday but now... waiting on the plumber, dishwasher has to be moved but again, we need Paddy back.

(I'm not being harsh about Irish plumbers, Elle, his name is Paddy. Grin) It would all have happened but for the lack of converter jets. How's your building work coming along?

I liked Bani's snakeskin T, but am certain my decolletage is not up to that much exposure nowadays. Theoretically, I like animal prints, but don't own any garments, just the pony toed trainers. I did have a pair of snake-print skinny jeans but retired them 18 months ago as they were getting tired.

botemp · 24/05/2019 16:35

Ooh that looks sartorially intriguing Flo, will have to see if I can see that somewhere.

Xing it's beginning to sound like the time that you need to bribe the workmen with promise of booze at the end of the week. You'll be surprised how quickly it all gets done all of a sudden. Do you at least have a makeshift kitchen in the interim?

Redandblue11 · 24/05/2019 17:29

Hello there!
Gentleman Jack - another thing to check out.
Building work always takes longer than it should , but always nearly is well worth the wait.

Chelsea flower show was absolutely fantastic. Most people ladies made an effort in summer dresses , floaty, flower patterns, or in greens, yellows and/or blues, and more importantly most of them with trainers/sneakers.
I love the quintessentially English festivals, where there is a lot of people but always all very polite, queues, and making small talk , in this case about Horticultural matters.
I will post some photos if I can later/over the weekend.
I wore a blue and white cotton, mid length dress with white trainers (photos to come, not sure I have a decent one ...) that I had for 8 years, and I worn in a very rural French wedding back then (and many times after).

I am very chuffed that the day before the show , while in Kings rd with friends I was stopped twice by some ladies to ask about the jumpsuit I was wearing. If you remember some time ago I bought my first ever jumpsuit, a Whistles navy , cropped one, sleeveless. Well you ladies are a bunch of geniuses. Thank you. I would have not bought a jumpsuit if it had not been for you.
Flowers to you.

XingMing · 24/05/2019 22:14

The team are coordinated by the chap running the project, and he only hires labourers he likes and tradesmen he respects. It's a bit behind schedule but when it's finished, it will be perfectly finished.

botemp · 25/05/2019 09:45

Speaking of billowy sleeves, I was perusing Rihanna's newly released luxury line with LVMH out of mere curiosity but was quite taken with some of it, though would say as a whole collection it lacks its own identity so far. It all feels a bit borrowed of other designers that she likes to wear.

Anyhow some cool billowy sleeves in there too, the layering aspect felt novel to me, boulder shoulders is usually my issue with billowy sleeves and that circumvents the issue nicely. It'll probably all sell out as soon as it goes online and as much as I love the look of the diagonally pleated trousers, but I do worry I'd widen to double my size in them. And, obviously, there's no escaping pink but it made me think of PP's Céline a bit.

Droop in the soup is my main issue with big sleeves. But I was taken by the drama, and because the rest of Suranne Jone's outfit was so severe. And I was probably channelling my inner Adam Ant too.

banivani · 25/05/2019 10:27

googles gentleman jack

Speaking of telly, the new H&M designer collaboration with whatshisname is a bit Villanelle isn’t it?

Red love the report from your London trip. I’d love to see the flower show someday. So pleased you got complimented on your jumpsuit too!

I have purchased nothing yet. But but but I have gotten into the mad trousers a bit (I have no fecking choice but to cover my legs) and have sported a wide floral number from hennes at work. It’s been unseasonably warm here and I’m dying with having to (“having to”) cover my arms with sleeves. I should have bought all those nice kimonos when the shops were full of them Angry

quirkychick · 25/05/2019 10:56

Just trying to catch up with everyone's posts! Too much stuff has been happening here, but I have been lurking. In no particular order... menopause has arrived and bitten me on the bum, cue horrible night sweats, lack of sleep and medical appointments, mil is very frail still and refusing to acknowledge she needs help, her GP surgery is useless, dp has had what we think is a recurrence of kidney stones after 5yrs, we're pursuing a diagnosis of asd. On the plus side, I have twice been complimented on what I'm wearing and the other night wore bo's advent suggestion of a fake navy jumpsuit top and botyoms with my voya tevas which felt smartish but cool in the heat.

banivani · 25/05/2019 21:48

Ah quirky that’s a lot at once 😢.

We watched the last two episodes of killing eve tonight and I fell in love with her kimono wornontv.net/138333/. Which is soooo dear. 🙄

quirkychick · 26/05/2019 08:29

Thanks, bani. Gorgeous kimono, there must be a cheaper dupe!

I love the Gentleman Jack look, flo. Menswear is a particular love of mine, I agree that the big sleeves are not conducive to a lifestyle without staff, though. I used to borrow a white lacy shirt of my mum's as a teenager worn with a black brocade waistcoat and Spanish hat. Very new romantic Grin.

Floisme · 26/05/2019 10:43

It's hardly surprising I'm so taken with the look as I still miss the New Romantics. Great times.

And hell quirky any one of those on its own would be a handful Flowers

Flowers for Quirky
I have no wise words for menopause I am afraid.
That kimono is stunning Bani! I want one!!

quirkychick · 26/05/2019 11:58

Thank you for all your support, parisiennes Smile. I've had some help with menopause on the boards here and it's really just exploring my options, but night sweats and poor sleep suck. Dp seems better today, we think he may have passed a kidney stone yesterday Shock.

XingMing · 26/05/2019 19:44

Flowers for quirky. It is the hardest time.

ToEllewithIt · 27/05/2019 12:24

quirky that's a lot to deal with, lack of sleep is a killer. Flowers Hope your DP gets some relief soon too.

How are the Voya Tevas comfort-wise?

Bani I agree, the Giambattista Valli is is very frothy and reminiscent of THAT Molly Goddard dress. It's all sold out. I wish I had somewhere to wear those kind of clothes! Speaking of which, the Style magazine had a feature on the impact of Villanelle's clothes. That Etro kimono is so cool.

Glad you had fun at the flower show red

I like RiRi's collection for the most part, some of the stuff is a bit basic, but the rest makes for interesting silhouettes, albeit that they'd make my widest parts look wider.

Redandblue11 · 27/05/2019 19:42

Here are a couple of photos of the cotton dresses I considered for Chelsea. I wore the blue and white both just out of wash so excuse them for being creased

The first is mid leg length and comfier in situations where it can be windy. The second one I love the fit on me Grin but for Chelsea I wanted something bolder while still being comfy, plus the second one is knee length. Not sure if the photo does it justice, trust me fits really well Blush

So, for me summer dresses are about coming in at waist and going out. I found to be the best shape for me. Although I wonder for how long I can pull the look off without looking childish ...

I do like both! Did you need a jacket on the day you went? And I don't think either looks even slightly childish.
