I like the blue dress in particular, the shape as well as the colours and the print. Trust me, when / if you reach the point it doesn't suit any more, you will know!

Redandblue11 · 28/05/2019 08:04

The day I went it was hot hot, so no jacket needed at all. I only had a shawl that I used for the first hour in the morning (9 am), then it went into my bag. I am glad as not sure what jacket, other than a trench would have fitted with it.

quirkychick · 28/05/2019 08:37

Thanks, Elle and everyone, I'm trying out some medication for the night sweats/hot flushes but it might take a couple of weeks to take effect. It's better than it was, but I'm still waking up. The voya tevas are super comfy, I walk a lot on hard pavements and they were great. I was originally thinking of buying some more greek sandals from Etsy in a silver, lace up gladiator style, but that would make them too similar, I think. They have got some leather flipflops that I like the look of, but they're not really a priority.

red I love both of those dresses, really lovely prints and shapes, floral without being chintzy.

quirkychick · 28/05/2019 08:40

These flipflops, they come in lots of colours, I'm thinking dark brown or a metallic. I can't really justify them atm, but think they'd get lots of wear on hot days.

banivani · 28/05/2019 10:50

I love the dresses Red, esp the blue and white one. It's a bit Marimekko when I like Marimekko Grin. Also it looks like a wrap and I love wrap dresses not that I can ever find any that are good and fit Angry.

Thanks for the article Elle! Just read it (with my head tilted at the screen Wink.

I've spent ages - AGES - looking for kimonos now and there is NOTHING decent. I just want to cover my arms with this rash. But no, of course not, when I want to buy something THERE IS NOTHING.

ToEllewithIt · 28/05/2019 11:00

They are nice quirky

Does anyone have any thoughts on the barely-there sandals that are all over the place at the moment other than the fact that this is a trend that I wore first time around in the 90s ? the ultimate ones seem to be The Row ones, but they're really expensive. Topshop, Mango et all have dupes, but I haven't seen in the flesh, has anyone? Mansur Gavriel have these too, but they're still pretty pricey. I wonder would the fact that they're mules drive me around the bend. If anyone has seen a nice, but not super-expensive sandal like this then I'd love to know.

Also have i completely lost it or are these kind of cool? shop.mango.com/gb/plus-size/shoes-heeled-sandals/leather-straps-sandals_43015817.html?c=23&n=1&s=accesorios_she.accesorio;42,342,442.zapatos42,342,442;Sandalias_tacon
Sadly wide-fit or I'd try them

Kimonos for you bani. I don't know if there's anything to suit among these. I just have some of the city map scarves and stoles.

The barely-there sandals hark back to the 90s, and didn't flatter my hooves then Elle, so I will sit this dance out again. I love them, but I don't have pretty feet and there's no improvement with age. The closest I came was a pair of multi-coloured strappy patent mules which went with almost everything, but the MG are far daintier. They stayed on well, even on cobbles.

Thank you all for enabling me to indulge in your fantasies vicariously!

The plumber is AWOL this morning: he promised he'd be here at 8.30. The joiner has vanished during XingDog's walk without explanation. My patience is fading. But it does look great, or it will.

Redandblue11 · 28/05/2019 12:46

Now I am looking at those kimonos that Xing shared ...

I am not hundred percent sure about the barely-there sandals ... and the mango either, sorry Elle. To me says fast fashion ok, I admit I do fast fashion sometimes, just trying not to!
Then again ... what do I know ... took me ages to get in the jumpsuit trend and now I am firmly in , same with white sneakers ... so next year you might see me in them after you Elle rock the look ahead of me.
But for the moment I will watch from afar.

banivani · 28/05/2019 20:42

Ah yes I’ve looked at the 100 stars ones but am not sure any of the patterns/colours are versatile enough for me to motivate price+shipping. Love the Kews ones.

I think the right person can carry off a barely there sandal and the mango ones are rather fun? But I’m not super keen on them. But then I have some trouble with looks that scream not practical (for me). I’m shallow enough to enjoy a transparent heel though - it’s the future! Buck Rogers!

XingMing · 28/05/2019 21:15

The shipping costs must be high, Bani? I think with stuff like kimonos it's almost a case of "Do I love the colours?" and will the shape work? I'm somewhat charmed by the pyjamas, especially Paris. Not buying, sits on hands. 2019 is not quite half over.

banivani · 28/05/2019 21:23

Fifteen pounds! It was just a tad steep for something I’m only seeing photos of.

XingMing · 28/05/2019 21:51

That's a lot for shipping a garment weighing under 100g!

XingMing · 28/05/2019 21:57

The viscose/modal mix is okay if it's the silky, slippy mix but I have another scarf from them (a gift) which isn't as nice, despite its lovely colours.

banivani · 29/05/2019 10:16

I'm generally a brick and mortar shop type of woman, me. This is also why I haven't bought the snake print t-shirt.

Redandblue11 · 29/05/2019 21:03

Xing well done for 5 months of not buying!

I watched today the first two episodes of Gentleman Jack, inspired by Flo, and I am loving it. Had to be in bed resting with what seems to be a bad case of IBS. Feeling better, but I will have to take it easy in Paris.

XingMing · 29/05/2019 21:41

Not buying is a somewhat elastic term. I can replace, but now own two dreadful bought on sale and worn navy T-shirts with raglan sleeves that are only useful underneath other garments because I've learnt that raglan sleeves do my body no favours. No waste, but unflattering. I've replaced two sports bras and one leggings with more flattering versions. One scarf in red, blue and cream and two from the second hand stall, and one cotton skirt. Total of this year's buys. Honest Injun. I am not telling what the sports bras have cost in money, much less the energy that has gone into research.

Kitchen porn soon... I promise. The joiner/kitchen fitter is going doolally with the precision that a supposedly simple job should entail. He is even more detail-oriented than I am. I thought I was terminal obsessive. He has higher standards.

Floisme · 30/05/2019 07:23

I can't match Xing as the Margaret Howell trousers were a January sales buy but I don't think I've bought anything new since. If I have it's either a genius purchase that's fitted in so seamlessly I can't remember ever being without it, or it's still in the carrier bag somewhere. It was never a plan, it's just been an expensive year so far and no letup in sight before Autumn. I've even been more frugal in the charity shops, although I did land some ultra wide Hobbs linen trousers the other day. You all know my views on linen trousers but these I could not resist.

Nice kimonos though... but I'm with bani - if they were in a real shop and I could see the colours and feel them and try some on then I might find it hard to stand firm. But when something's only on a screen I might think 'Ooh that's nice' but then I quickly forget.

I haven't commented on the barely there sandals as I just can't imagine wearing them, sorry. My feet would probably catch fire.

banivani · 30/05/2019 08:42

Floisme
I did land some ultra wide Hobbs linen trousers the other day.

I’m just quoting this for posterity in case Flo asks MN to delete her post, to prove that I was, am, and always will be right about wide linen trousers.

XingMing · 30/05/2019 09:42

I've seen the kimonos for real as a local shop stocks them sometimes, along with the scarves. The textures, weight and drape of the fabric is a very decent quality. Apparently a character (Meryl's daughter?) in the new Mamma Mia film wears one.

Floisme · 30/05/2019 09:50

bani Grin I sometimes amaze myself at the number of contradictory views I can fit inside my head at the same time.

I will wear the linen wide legs tomorrow if the weather is fine (they are not rain friendly) and report back on how low my arse has sunk by the end of the day.

timeisnotaline · 30/05/2019 11:44

bani Grin
I like the 90s shoes higher up, and especially the clear heel pair! luckily they are peach which makes my feet look like they belong to a not too fresh corpse. But I have very many shoes, evidence I’m not that discerning. Bags I can leave , but shoes I love.
Well done those not buying! I’m wearing a jumper from approx 2004 I think.. I was at uni and mum bought it for me. I actually have quite a few seriously old clothes, my challenge is to not just keep adding. They aren’t the trendiest (I attached a photo wearing said jumper to communicate this) but in good condition, part of me would love to have the same wardrobe for years on end- it seems the epitome of functional. It’s also the antithesis of my very non minimalist leanings which see pretty new things all the time so unlikely to ever happen.

quirkychick · 30/05/2019 14:08

I hope you feel better soon, red.

I remember having clear, block sandals in the 90s. I'm not sure my feet are dainty enough for barely there sandals, tbh.

time, I think I store away clothes that are good quality but don't feel current. I'm old enough to know they often come back around.

ToEllewithIt · 31/05/2019 09:49

I think that the next meet up will have to be a wide-legged linen trousers one!

Apologies for the crick in your neck Bani!

Well done on all the not-buying. That's impressive restraint.

Time I need to learn the same skill of not just endlessly adding to my wardrobe or to find a way of storing the "come back around pieces".

I wore this the other day. I like the top, but the trousers are a little too short I think? #tallgirlproblems They're Cos, but I think they only do one leg length and I don't think that they're working for me.

Les Parisiennes des Mamansnet: See life in pink, but do not wear it!
Floisme · 31/05/2019 10:01

They're a little bit shorter than I like on for myself Elle as I prefer them ending at the very top of my ankle. But there are loads around that length (the length you're wearing) at the moment so they don't look odd or too short - it's just personal preference. I like the top - good colour.

So it's wideleg linen trousers at dawn. Here I am first thing this morning and looking rather spiffing as I am sure you will all agree. So round one to bani but let's see how they look in a few hours. I have cut myself a large piece of humble pie just in case.

quirkychick · 31/05/2019 13:11

I love wide-legged linen trousers, provided they are that good linen that looks artfully slightly crumpled but not a shapeless mess. Easier said than done.

The trousers look fine, Elle (love the top) but I know what you mean, I would wear them slightly longer as it's more flattering on me .
