denimes, I just remembered Laura Laval Paris. She has a lot of bridal pieces, not sure if that's the French effortless thing you were looking for though. I found her on tictail where she's no longer selling but iirc the off the peg dresses started at €300 and custom dresses started at €1500.

I've never used a personal shopper. I think it really depends on budget, I can easily spend someone else's money if there's plenty of it, but it would probably be a lot less cost effective if you're hiring a private ps for a high street price point. Isn't there something called stitch or sketch that uses an algorithm to suggest things and brands you like.

Denimes I think Net a Porter have some lovely choices in their Bridalwear edit. I quite like the structure of the Roland Mouret dresses, but do wish they didn't have the invisible zips!

I quite like www.Bhldn.com for a more modern dress, but unfortunately they are mail order only to the UK which is a bit of a gamble.

I hope you had/are having a great time in Paris time, I am looking forward to feedback on any items acquired.
I am going to Paris again on May, and this time round looks like I will have at least a 3 hs window to shop so I want to invest it well.

Denimes congratulations! Unfortunately I do not have any potential good ideas regarding bridal. I am out of touch on the wedding scene.
I have never used a style coach. Are you in central london? Where I live there is one. I am in Hertfordshire, as I said I have not used her but heard she has worked very well with some people.

Floisme · 25/03/2019 10:27

denimes this may not be your style but there was a thread a few weeks ago where a poster said she wished she was getting married / renewing her vows so she could wear this dress by The Fold and I thought hell, me too.

They also do these in the same colour Their stuff is mostly pretty corporate but I think that winter white gives it a completely different feel.

Admittedly I am hopeless at weddings - as you may have gathered from most of my recent postings - so feel free to ignore me.

botemp · 25/03/2019 10:49

Is it anything goes for registry weddings in the UK? I thought it was a bit more suiting/tailored in nicer fabrics? I had thought of Roland Mouret also, Roksanda is also worth a punt and Victoria Beckham does do nice white pieces but assumed full on gowns would be too much?

Personally I'd probably get completely stuck on shoes. I really don't like those traditional white silk pumps but there's not much choice out there in white, although it is a bit of a fashion colour in shoes at the moment.

denimes, I did get in a 15% off and free shipping code from Net A Porter this morning, you're welcome to have it if it's of any use to you. Although I'm not sure if it's regional or tied to my account, their codes are a bit peculiar.

I have looked at that dress from the fold, and the Eaton one- thefoldlondon.com/product/eaton-dress-winter-white-tweed/
Gorgeous. You could have something very simple made in a white tweed and it would look quite special but not be classic jacquard/ lace weddingy. But I’m not minimalist and love texture in my fabrics. What would also be nice but much harder is a thick knit fabric, someone mentioned celine and I saw some in the Sandro outlet yesterday. You couldn’t get that made though.
I’ve been taking it very quietly as it’s a bit of an r&r weekend but did go to the Sandro outlet- so impressed by how helpful their staff were! I actually didn’t really feel like shopping but I did after 20 minutes in there. I’d love to go back and just try on things that look fun instead of aiming for simple work things, mainly bottoms as that’s where mine don’t fit me. So I have two skirts and a pair of trousers, one skirt is black and the others are blue/ navy.
But my train back is cancelled so I’m staying another night. Which should be amazing but I teared up at not seeing my baby tonight. So off to try and enjoy today. First world problems Grin
Bo thanks for the tip, I was too lazy to leave le Marais actually and ate at Glou. Might try biglove tonight, it’s not far to the hotel from there. Huge queues outside there yesterday though.

botemp · 25/03/2019 11:09

Monday night should be a lot quieter. On your own, or even with two, you tend to get in a lot quicker anyhow. Homer Lobster in Le Marais is a great eatery if you like lobster, and struggle to get a table elsewhere. It's more like a gourmet fast food place.

Yes, Parisian staff is really very helpful you should have heard my endless complaints of London staff Blush purchases sound promising, fitting bottoms are always a plus. Enjoy your unexpected extra day!

Have had little chance to keep up recently but wanted to pop in and say how much I enjoyed the photos from the Dior exhibition 👍🏻 Glad you all had a good time!

Trench coat 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Miles better than the options Grin

I think too few wedding dresses are NOT full length these days - bring back semi-formal I say.

botemp · 25/03/2019 19:38

Moan about full length and I shall deliver. Had completely forgotten that Madame Le Figaro has a whole 'Mariage' subsection. Is this the effortless French look we're aiming for? Pic 1 is looking very much like a Marianne to me and that bias cut would be ridiculously flattering on me.

I also quite liked the cape dress from Stella McCartney's latest venture into wedding dresses.

No clue what the front looks like on the third but I can definitely see the French leaning into a bit more ease in their bridal presentation.

I love that cut on the first. I walked past this shortly after reading the updates this morning so snapped pics- very unstructured! I suspect it completely lacks the sharp cut you are after , but both pieces look like extremely simple patterns which many women wear all the time.

I’m not sure exactly what your taste is. I don’t have as good a memory as botemp! At the risk of sounding like someone on “Say Yes to The Dress”…. Is there a budget to be respectful of?!

I think for registry office anything goes. It used to be be more of a suit looks many years ago, but now it’s anything from years to a ball gown IMO.

Delphine Manivet is French and I like these two. Or go super simple with this silk bias cut one from Reformation

One wedding dress designer that I like for pared back looks is Jesus Piero – Spanish rather than French and fairly full on bridal, but more restrained with it. You can get rid of a train easily enough which is what I'd do to the third one. Price point is pretty reasonable for bridal.

Also this French designer has some nice skirt and top combos www.lauredesagazan.fr/

P.s. is it time to repeat my anecdote from the bridal shop owner who said that she finds architects to be her trickiest clients.. I spent absolutely ages before settling on a wedding dress so I am sypathetic. I was a nightmare customer.

I like this Galvan one too from NAP.

I got the 15% off too and am contemplating buying a dress for a conference I'm talking at.

Now I want to get married Blush again

Redandblue11 · 26/03/2019 09:52

Is there such a thing as getting “broody” with wedding dresses?
babies do not give me that effect
But dresses do!

ToElleWithIt · 26/03/2019 10:09

If there is redandblue then I have it bad. I don't know if I'd cheat on my first dress - though it was quite big, but if I did it might be with this Jason Wu number, low key, but lovely and I always find that shape so flattering

If you don't want to spend £1000s, French Connection sometimes has some nice, simple wedding dresses - might be a bit lacy and romantic though. Or even somewhere like Monsoon.

Then again, I got married in a black trouser suit.

botemp · 26/03/2019 10:32

Poor denimes, by the time she's caught up we'll have planned her entire wedding Shock since we're playing 'say yes to the dress' now, beyond budget, time of year probably matters too?

Tbh the only reason I'd bother with the ritual is to wear a stunning dress Blush I'd probably hunt the internet to buy the yellow Jacquemus dress that I loved so dearly but only had space for to live in my closet without a reason to ever get out. Will dig up a photo of it somewhere.

Although it's perfectly normal these day to have more than one dress isn't it? Hmm, I may have a case of wedding dress-a-titis too...

XingMing · 26/03/2019 10:34

Fulsome felicitations, Denimes! Do love a good wedding dress and there are some corkers here. I confess to a preference for ballerina and midi dresses, although I thought the first and third Fold dresses were lovely.

Have not been keeping up, as XingDog was hit by a car at the weekend, hospitalized, and didn't come home until last night. She will recover fully as she was lucky to avoid internal injury but is v v upset, shocked and exhausted at the moment. Strict rest, toilet breaks on a lead, and she looks very patchy with lots of stitchwork. She has a comfortable blue inflatable collar instead of the plastic lampshade. Dresses have gone for a burton for months ahead.

CatherineMaitland · 26/03/2019 10:44

In my previous life I was a wedding caterer so I am all good with wedding planning. :)

Sorry to hear about the dog Xing, glad she will be OK.

ToElleWithIt · 26/03/2019 10:47

xingming I hope xingdog makes a full recovery. You must have been so worried.

botemp · 26/03/2019 10:49

Found my pic, probably a bad idea...

I told you to buy that yellow dress bo but you wouldn't listen. (Mumnset needs a wagging finger emoticon.)

Wedding gowns are not my forte - I got married in a dress from Warehouse. But there are some stunners here.

Flowers for Xingdog - and you too Xing, it must have been very worrying.

Floisme · 26/03/2019 11:21

Soz - the 'here' isn't a link gone wrong, I just meant on this thread.

NW2SW · 26/03/2019 11:43

Bonjour! And congrats Denimes, just wanted to mention Cortana a Spanish brand who do amazing stuff with silks and off white/ivory - in case that's your thing.

Wedding shops were the stuff on nightmares for me personally. Ended up with a 60% discounted Stella from her 2016 wedding collection off Net-a-porter. Then after Megan M they've actually re-released it at triple the price I paid Grin < smug face
