Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15 Thread 16 Thread 17

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Thanks. I'm trying to sound ultra-cool about it but I'm just doing loads of online shopping as a mad displacement activity.

TantricTwist · 14/05/2019 21:12

Enid where did you buy it from? If it's Boots then they will definitely refund due to a reaction, less easy if its an online purchase but no harm in trying.

EnidButton · 14/05/2019 22:33

Thanks guys, yes from Boots. Def going to return it. Niacinamide or the spf are most likely culprits.

mintmagnummm · 15/05/2019 12:22

Enid yes you can definitely return, I'm the queen of returns 😬. I react to octocrylene, it really irritates my eyes! Also think I may be sensitive to niacinamide as I have reacted to 3 lrp moisturisers...

EnidButton · 15/05/2019 13:59

Mint I think it's the spf (can't spell it! What you said). Going to take it back. Thank you.

YesQueen · 15/05/2019 17:53

Right I've run away from hourglass after FOUR staff kept asking if I was ok. No new palettes

YesQueen · 15/05/2019 18:23

Huda eyeshadows - LUSH
Got a Mac foundation and a NARS sample. And loads of palette and swatch photos
And Mrs Hirons herself just hugged me Blush

Jozxyqk · 15/05/2019 19:15

Hello... I've been lurking but not posting, mostly because I've not changed anything in ages in my skincare routine.

Enid - I reacted horribly to niacinamide. Massive cystic spots that took absolutely months to properly heal.

Bit of a confession though... I got sunburnt today. Not horribly, and thankfully not on my face, just my upper back & shoulders - I was gardening. What can I do? I've had a cool shower, didn't scrub it. I have pure aloe vera gel, lavender essential oil, this LRP moisturiser, Sudocrem, or the old faithful LRP Cicaplast. (Hand, lip, and original versions!) Please help!? I presume Sudocrem is a no?

Jozxyqk · 15/05/2019 20:00

Mint - I couldn't manage niacinamide in large amounts, but I was ok with a previous moisturiser recommended on here, & also the LRP sensitive prebiotic moisturiser. Both contain it, but presumably much less - and I don't use much of it.

SallieSallow · 15/05/2019 20:27

Sad at pushy sales people and no new hourglass palettes YesQueen though did think it was a long shot as they normally only appear in the run up to Christmas. Great you got a hug from Caroline though, she does come across as very warm and friendly from what I’ve seen of her.

Joz much as I love cicaplast I think aloe Vera is the usual recommendation for sunburn so I’d try that first. If it ends up blistering or peeling then maybe move on to cicaplast. I’m just guessing though as can’t remember the last time I got sunburnt, I’m not fair skinned so even before I wised up to spf I got away unscathed.

Hope babyballoon has arrived safely Flowers

TantricTwist · 15/05/2019 20:28

YesQueen explain the intriguing CH hug.

TantricTwist · 15/05/2019 20:29

Joz yes to Aloe Vera

YesQueen · 15/05/2019 21:05

@TantricTwist she accosted me in the store as she recognised me from my t shirt and gave me a hug. And then told me to bugger off when I told her how old I was and said I looked about 29 😂😂

YesQueen · 15/05/2019 21:06

Let's see how many pics I can do

I'm about as fair-skinned as it's possible to be without being a natural blonde or redhead, I think. Idiotic mistake to make. Will get DH to AV me up shortly.

AwdBovril · 15/05/2019 21:14

How old are you YesQueen? I always assumed you were in your 20s?

YesQueen · 15/05/2019 21:16

@AwdBovril I'm 35

TantricTwist · 15/05/2019 21:32

@YesQueen now I'm confused and feel I've missed something, what do you mean CH recogised you from your T-Shirt?
Nice photos btw. The palettes look much better in your photos than when I've checked them out online.

It's interesting to see the most popular colours by how much they've been handled Grin

YesQueen · 15/05/2019 21:52

@TantricTwist I was saying what top I would be wearing as we needed a "signal" to recognise others that were at the Murad event, and hence CH saw my post, spotted my t shirt and went ah ha

TantricTwist · 15/05/2019 22:20

FFS I keep forgetting you're Olli Blush Grin and of course from her FB page no doubt, which I'm on but have to keep hiding as there are so many posts

AwdBovril · 15/05/2019 22:57

Oops just realised I had a nc fail... c'est la vie. No way do you look 35 YQ. I often get people telling me I look younger than my age but you're doing much better than me. I imagine sunburn isn't going to help me either!

YesQueen · 15/05/2019 23:17

My purchases
Nars albatross highlight
Nars orgasm lip balm
Huda mauve obsessions palette
MAC sweet heat eyeshadow

Sample of Nars foundation and also MAC studio fix

And a sea of MAC eyeshadows

Just caught up!

Looks like you had a great time at the Murad event YesQueen :)

P50 (and variant) users: I've been using it for years now, once/twice a week - started with W then V, but I've still got pretty bad age spots, which keep appearing. Am I going to have to switch to the PIGM version? I just got a 150ml P50V from Liberty and don't want to buy a different one.

Also, does yours still sting? EVERY time I use it my face stings and goes red and that's using it biweekly for a couple of years. Is that normal?

Final question: what do you put on afterwards? I normally use my normal nighttime oil/moisturiser.

Baloonphobia · 16/05/2019 13:58

Baloonbaby is indeed here. Bit of a weird moment when the epidural only half worked so one side was floppy while the other side was in agony but it all went well in the end. I look horrendous, all blotchy on my face, presumably from the pushing. Hope it doesn't last.

mumno11 · 16/05/2019 14:19

Hello
I have posted here for some advice before. Back for more!

So I have started with a simple routine-
Am
Cleanse- lrp toleroiane cleanser
Moisturise- eucerine 5% urea( didn't do much for me)
Spf- frezyderm

Pm
Cleanse
Balance me rose otto oil

I've been doing this for few months now.
The spf was great to begin with but the second batch made my eye sore.
Looking for spf recommendations for dry and non problematic skin.

I would like to add serum and exfoliation and would appreciate any recommendations.
My skin loves the balance me oil . It's well hydrated in the morning.
Thanks.
