Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15 Thread 16 Thread 17

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Sallie I'm glad it arrived and that you like it. I have long fine hair where curls drop out immediately so I use a spray wax which I bought from the hairdressers, the curls stay in for ages even after a nights sleep. KMS California - Hair Play. I was told to apply all products after not before but that's with my babyliss curl.

JDSTER the primark beauty blenders are just great aren't they - just the right amount of solid and soft, LOL, if that even makes any sense. It does.

EnidButton · 01/05/2019 22:36

Just to note, I have eaten healthy for two days as I really want to shift the half a stone I've put on this year. No sugar. But then I spotted some Hubba Bubba at the supermarket counter, bought it in a rush of nostalgia and oh my gawd it's exactly the same as it always was, even smells the same and still has the pleasing chunky shape. Pleased me no end. I haven't had chewing gum for years and Hubba Bubba is pure 80's corner shop.

Anyway back to no obvious refined sugar tomorrow. 😋

TantricTwist · 01/05/2019 23:14

Enid does it still have a tattoo in the wrapper?

TantricTwist · 01/05/2019 23:16

maybe that was Bazooka Joe I'm thinking of

EnidButton · 02/05/2019 00:12

Ah no Tant I'd forgotten about those! Grin

EnidButton · 02/05/2019 00:16

I don't think it was Hubba Bubba but one of the bubblies we got in a 10p mix bag had a little tattoo in the wrapper. The shopkeeper always asked if you were allowed chewing gum before making up the bag. 😁 I wasn't allowed until I was older.

mintmagnummm · 02/05/2019 09:00

Omg do you remember hubba Bubba can of drink?? I bloody loved it!

EnidButton · 02/05/2019 09:44

Shock I completely missed that one!

TantricTwist · 02/05/2019 15:40

No never tried the Hubba Bubba drink Mint sounds interesting though. I used to love cream soda drinks though which I only ever had when I went to my grandads.

I used to buy strawberry shoelaces from the shop and tie them to my bicyce bars and slowly chomp on them on the way.

The redness of my face and old faint scarring has now gone which is amazing. I dont even get rosy cheeks when I have a have a glass of wine now. I have cut right back on alcohol though so that probably had a lot to do with the redness.

Those colours were made for you Queen!

Tant You were a child genius!

Mint I've never seen that before. They didn't travel as far as my little hone town. Grin

Oh Enid you were deprived, it was amazing 😉

So skincare wise I've mainly been sticking to my bland products with the addition of Elemis peptide cream-oil at night. I've overdone the clay masks on my nose so I have peeling dry bits. Thought I'd try aloe Vera gel on it so just bought the best one Holland & B sell but think it was overpriced tbh. Short of buying an actual Aloe plant and chopping bits off the poor thing, can you actually buy proper pure Aloe Vera? This one is 99.9% but then there's an ingredients list of about 10 things. They must be minuscule.

Bought a large pump bottle of the LRP lipikar lotion and another cicaplast handcream. I really like the hand cream but it seems to go down twice as quickly as others.

Also started taking an iron supplement to see if that helps with tiredness and bruising.

Lastly anyone who gets migraines, if you haven't already, give Kool n Soothe gel patches a try. I had one that wouldn't shift all last night and a patch on my head and base of skull/top of neck was really soothing and eased it enough that I fell asleep shortly after. I'll be stocking up.

mintmagnummm · 03/05/2019 17:57

Enid those gel patches do sweet FA for my migraines unfortunately! Tried one again only last week but did nothing! Have heard good reviews from people though. Glad it helped you x

EnidButton · 03/05/2019 22:00

Mint Ah that's a shame and thank you. They didn't get rid of it or anything but I didn't expect them to. Just eased the heat enough to let me sleep it off. I get them because of the ME though so anything that cools my head is helpful. Smile Staying off my phone and iPad would probably help too but let's not go too far. Grin

mintmagnummm · 04/05/2019 06:49

Enid I get them due to my fibromyalgia and they seem to be getting worse, I get at least 3 a month some are very severe others more manageable. I have maxi melts for them now and if I take one it goes within 10 minutes BUT it comes back after a couple of hours and you're not allowed to take another melt 🙄

YesQueen · 04/05/2019 15:13

Used my new palette today

SallieSallow · 05/05/2019 09:38

Gorgeous palette YesQueen and you look amazing as always! I wish I could still do my eyes like that, I have to stick to the minimalist look these days Sad

Well I’ve been fiddling with the airwrap, I absolutely love the dryer itself - it’s super quick and unlike any other hairdryer I’ve tried does not make my hair static-y and frizzy Shock this could be life changing as I’ll no longer have to wait hours for my hair to air dry or plan my hair wash days like a military operation!

Curling barrels - I find them easy to use but the curls drop super fast into loose waves which I actually prefer but can see why people wanting proper curls would not be impressed. One of my friends tried it too, she has just past shoulder length hair that’s very soft and silky and the curls didn’t take at all for her so I think you do need to have hair with a coarse ‘grippy’ sort of texture.

Brushes - one of them is excellent for doing my fringe, not really tested the others as wanted to try curling first.

I’ve got a few more weeks to test it yet but think I’ll be keeping it, it is a lot of money but as I don’t normally heat style I’d have been forking out trying various dryers/gadgets anyway and the chances are half of them wouldn’t have worked or given me frizz.

TantricTwist · 05/05/2019 16:44

Olli I didn't realise you were YesQueen good job you put the photo up Grin How did I not know?

Yes that pallette looks great on you. Did the colours last all day? You have my colour green eyes and the eyeshadow you are wearing, the brown, is pretty much the exact same colour I wear every day Blush

Now I really want to see all your eye shadow combinations for inspiration. I might have to trawl through all the threads now just for that

Sallie i think the dyson sounds like a keeper for you.

Mint never seen that hubba bubba drink before either.

Enid I used to have an Aloe Vera plant and you can cut off a whole long leaf - cut a small section off that or however you want - rub on your face (it is very satisfyingly gloopy and cool) and then pop it in cling film or a ziplock bag and it keeps in the fridge for weeks.

I still love strawberry laces to this day and these days I plait them before I eat them sometimes.
I have a secret stash off 'Drumstick' lollies the strawberry and milk flavoured ones. I just love them.

TantricTwist · 05/05/2019 17:28

I've decided I need to use a body lotion on my not so dry skin as I currently never use one after a shower or bath etc as they're usually annoyingly greasy and take ages to soak in.
So I've invested in Nivea's Express Hydration body lotion 48 hrs for all of £2.50 (currently on sale in Tesco) and I love the texture as it soaks in nicely and my elbows and knees are lovely and soft still as well as the rest of my skin.
For those of you with drier skin they have ones suited to that.

YesQueen · 05/05/2019 17:29

@TantricTwist Smile I usually post makeup stuff on Instagram. Lasted really well, I do use an eye base every day which probably helps a lot

TantricTwist · 05/05/2019 17:33

Where on instagram @YesQueen

botemp · 05/05/2019 17:33

Wow Queen that palette is gorgeous, it's like the colours were made for you. Very lovely, is this also the bridal inspired look?

I'm glad the Dyson seems to work for you Sallie, maybe not so glad for the wallet. Grippy hair is probably accurate, hair that isn't easily tamable otherwise seems to respond well to it and if it saves you time and planning it's not the worst investment.
