Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15 Thread 16 Thread 17

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Thanks Smile

TantricTwist · 28/04/2019 17:28

I saw some in TKMaxx last night, when I popped in before going out to dinner, expecting to meander about for a while only it shut much earlier than expected which was annoying so I only got 10 mins in there.

SallieSallow · 28/04/2019 18:55

Tant one I’m using is currently unavailable on amazon but I’ve had this one before and it was soft/did a good job

I’m really, really pissed off with DPD as they failed to deliver my dyson airwrap after I paid £5 for Sunday delivery Angry I specifically chose today as I’m travelling for work this week and away next weekend, no idea when I’ll get it now, they’ll be getting a stroppy call tomorrow (not available today of course) that’s if I can even get through to them. Feel like starting an I’M ABSOLUTELY FUMING thread on AIBU Grin

YesQueen · 28/04/2019 21:03

I just caved and got the ABH sultry palette Blush

Sallie Very annoying! Dpd is the one delivery service I usually swear by. Our regular driver is brilliant. Definitely complain and get your £5 back.

Mint and Tant for some reason some of the RT ones are now really firm. I have 2, bought at the same time. One is perfect softness and puffs up nicely and one is too packed and doesn't increase much when damp. When I bought a third one I had to poke them through the packaging to find a soft one. It's really odd. They swear they haven't changed them but I've seen other people complaining. Anyway if you get an RT one have a poke through the plastic first.

Gorgeous colours Queen! It looks really pigmented. Are they soft?

EnidButton · 28/04/2019 21:21

Ooooh that rose quartz colour! 😍

EnidButton · 28/04/2019 21:23

Oh sorry, you haven got it yet. Blush Well let me know if it's soft and easy to blend when you get it.

👑 👑 👑

YesQueen · 28/04/2019 21:32

@EnidButton I have the modern renaissance which is the same formula and they're incredibly soft and pigmented. My favourite eyeshadows! I also rate makeup geek a lot and Lorac

EnidButton · 28/04/2019 21:33

Going to have a good browse now thank you. I'm in a treat yo self mood. 😬

SallieSallow · 28/04/2019 21:45

My local DPD driver is very good Enid and a lovely chap too but according to their app the depot never actually bothered to give my parcel to any driver it’s still sat there Angry I was looking forward to having a good old fiddle with the dyson today too Grin even if I manage to get my mitts on it sometime this week I won’t have a lot of time for testing.

Gorgeous palette Queen I love the rose quartz too. I’m on a palette buying ban though Sad

TantricTwist · 29/04/2019 01:20

Yes I was the same with the rose quartz, lovely.

My DD bought a pack of 2 beauty blenders for me from Primark today as requested if she went past. I will try them out. They are nice and firm and soft so we shall see. One is similar to the one in the photo and feels the same just a teeny bit harder but that may be because I haven't wet it yet.

She also has a few eyeshadow palettes and loves rose gold colours at the moment, she is an expert at applying eyeshadow and it always seems to last all day on her even though they are from Superdrug (revolution) or TKMaxx and stay a lovely vibrant colour.
Whereas I just use the same MAC brown eyeshadow and just add black or brown liner to jazz it up or on on my bronzer or blush.

TantricTwist · 29/04/2019 01:24

Sallie that is so annoying re your Dyson.

Enid I read the RT ones felt harder and fell apart after one wash.

SallieSallow · 29/04/2019 13:26

Dyson coming tomorrow now, have to pick it up from a collection point which is a pain, but they've refunded me my fiver. No explanation as to why it wasn't passed to a driver yesterday though, lady I spoke to was lovely and no point getting stroppy with her but she said she'd escalate as a complaint.

The reviews on it (including on here) are not great so may well be going back anyway.....

mintmagnummm · 29/04/2019 14:41

Thanks Enid I'll make sure I check before I buy next time!

EnidButton · 29/04/2019 16:25

Sallie Be good to try it though. Ime these kind of tool really vary person to person. I never liked the Babyliss big hair but some people swear by it. So you never know.

YesQueen · 29/04/2019 22:22

I'm going to a Murad event with Caroline Hirons Grin seemed like a good way to spend a few hours

TantricTwist · 29/04/2019 23:25

Yes that'll be fun let us know it goes and pass on some tips to us Smile

Sallie it's meant to be really good though for thicker hair which yours is so fingers crossed it works its magic.

I really like the Primark beauty blender. I used the one that looks like a squash rather than a teardrop. It did the job so I'm more than happy esp as I slapped on my foundation on unprepared just got out of bed skin which I instantly wish I hadn't, as I had a few dry patches, (I had to drop my car off early to the garage) but the blender pulled it all together and smoothed it all out.

SallieSallow · 30/04/2019 20:24

Got it finally!! Had a quick fiddle and so far so good, very easy to use. The curls I put in dropped to loose waves very quickly but still look ok, and I was using it on dry hair which isn’t recommended, according to the instructional guff hair should be about 80% wet. And I think the 3 brushes (which I wasn’t actually that all that fussed about) will be good too if I want a straight/smooth look. I’ll test properly at the weekend.

That sounds interesting YesQueen I like Caroline’s personality but not keen on her product recommendations, she seems to trial far too many of them so not sure how she can know what’s working or not, and a lot are very expensive and hard to get hold of.

YesQueen · 30/04/2019 20:53

Yeah I wanted to go as the ticket is refundable on products so technically it's free Grin plus there's a goody bag Blush
The selfridges it is being held in is giant with loads of new stuff (CT, hourglass, zelens etc) so I'll have a poke round if I have time

JDSTER · 30/04/2019 21:07

Queen that sounds brilliant. Those goody bags can be fab. Do let us know everything Grin
I’ve got primark beauty blenders (it was a mixed pack) and the small ones are great.

YesQueen · 30/04/2019 21:08

Forgot there's also a stand alone KIKO shop. Maybe I should take out a new mortgage Grin

SallieSallow · 30/04/2019 21:16

I’d need a mortgage for the hourglass stuff alone Grin

EnidButton · 30/04/2019 21:20

That's my favourite store (that particular one) Queen! Let me know which counters you rate there, I haven't been much since they revamped the beauty dept so still can't find my way around as well. Have a good time!

EnidButton · 30/04/2019 21:23

Sounds very promising Sallie! I live loose waves the best. Did you use a product with it? I find my thick hair weighs down curls quite quickly unless I use a finishing spray or put a curl gel through it when it's wet.I prefer the looser ones on me though. Let us know your verdict when you've had a good play around with it.

SallieSallow · 30/04/2019 22:07

I didn’t use anything at all Enid just tested it on ‘naked’ dry hair, as only wanted to get the gist of how it works and see if I could actually do the curls.

I prefer loose waves too but my worry is they won’t last 5 minutes if I go outside especially if it’s any way damp or windy but I’ll see what happens.

I’m also curious to see how well the brushes and the drying bit work as it’s years since I’ve attempted properly drying my hair or straightening it. I did a couple of bits of hair and my fringe with the brushes and they seemed to work pretty well.

I look daft now though as I’ve got some wavy bits and some straight bits but I’ll wear my hair up tomorrow Grin
