Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15 Thread 16 Thread 17

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

The canmake SPF is on my list to buy. Just purchased the Jouer set and hydrate powder which I'll try tomorrow
It's this one

Oxygen Confused well that's a first. Not sure how that works but the whole oxygen facials and other oxygen nonsense seems to be the latest 'thing'. The other ingredients are unfamiliar to me too and will need a good cosmetic chemist to explain it to me, I suspect. Granted lixir is founded by a very highly regarded cosmetic chemist, but I never understood why she included essential oils colourants, and other fragrant compounds. This one seems to be mostly free from those, just a tiny bit at the end.

I'm on the fence, I can potentially see some use for it if you're in a high pollution area, daily commute on the tube, etc. otherwise not sure, never really fan of anything described as an incidental boost as it just means they don't do much in the long term.

Queen, the Canmake is nice but I mostly buy it because it's very cheap and has neither a matte or shiny finish. You do need to leave it to dry. As a primer-like SPF the Frezyderm is still the nicest under makeup IME.

Thanks JD! Yes, Bo, I feel the same. Shame it can't be bought in a sample size. I have an Elemis balm (that I can't remember the name of right now) that I use as an occasional instant thing rather than something to make lasting changes. So I'm not adverse to the the idea. £36 for something that might do nothing is a bit much though.

SallieSallow · 16/04/2019 20:21

Just wondering if anyone is still using and liking the NARS tinted moisturiser? I was thinking of trying a lighter base for summer and seem to remember a few on here recommending this one.

I still haven’t got back to Nufacing Blush but will do once I’m back in a better/more settled routine. Am definitely going to look into some cosmetic procedures for hooded eyes and droopy jowls in the future but won’t rush into anything right now.

JDSTER · 16/04/2019 21:32

I’m still using and liking NARS TM. I’ve found a good colour for me (Groenland) I’m pale but if the shade of foundation is too light I look like a ghost. I need a bit of warmth.
I’ve been away last week so need to start back with NuFace. Let us know how your research goes with cosmetic procedures.

SallieSallow · 16/04/2019 23:31

Thanks JDSTER I think I might be either St Moritz or Cuba but will probably need to test IRL.

TantricTwist · 16/04/2019 23:50

Enid the oxygen and sapphire ingredients are Grin

Sallie Yes I still use and love NARS TM in shade Alaska which I find is really kind to my skin.
Although I just had a look on the NARS website and NARS TM is no longer an item as far as I can see ??

EnidButton · 17/04/2019 01:44

Have you seen the new Lancôme one Sallie? Don't think it's a tinted moisturiser exactly but it's supposed to be very sheer and light. Teint Idole Nude.

Tant I didn't even spit the sapphire! It makes me want to buy it more Grin

Can someone please buy this because I can't afford it and it looks brilliant purely because you'd feel like you were in a sci-fi film whilst wearing it www.cultbeauty.co.uk/dr-dennis-gross-skincare-drx-spectralite-faceware-pro.html?utm_source=Salesforce&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=190416_NARSNew_email_wk16_v5&SubKey=512805

Big news: I've managed a whole day without eating mini eggs.

EnidButton · 17/04/2019 01:45

Spot not spit! I'd be a millionaire if I could spit precious gemstones.

mintmagnummm · 17/04/2019 08:48

Sallie I'm still using the NARS tm too. I'm also using groenland which is actually dark for me but was the only one with a pinker undertone and as long as I blend it well it's fine, it was actually recommended to me in the store because the Alaska was far too yellow for me.

botemp · 17/04/2019 08:55

I just go a promotional email with the subject line, 'Make-up Trend: Buttery Skin' Grin

In my 'I'm bored with my skin' phase I did contemplate buying that mask, Enid. I'm just not convinced the at home devices are capable of anything and at worst they'll encourage pigmentation.

My Tripollar investment seems to have paid off though, only used it 3x so far and already seeing some results which I wasn't expecting. It is terribly dull and tedious to do though. It requires some TV distraction that doesn't require absolute attention, anything good on Netflix for that? Started the Queer eye series but I'm a bit meh about it.

SallieSallow · 17/04/2019 12:55

I’ve seen the NARS TM on their own website, Space NK and look fantastic, think I’ll have to brave going into a store to get colour matched though and not sure when I’ll feel up to that given I don’t cope well with ‘in person’ shopping at the best of times.

Bo that Tripollar looks interesting and great that you’re getting results, I might consider trying it if the Nuface doesn’t do anything (once I actually get round to giving it a proper trial!). I’ve been watching the Madeleine McCann documentary on Netflix but it does need some concentration, I keep having to go back and re-watch. And it’s not exactly light hearted/easy watching so may not be the kind of thing you’d want anyway.

EnidButton · 17/04/2019 17:32

Everything else I watch on Netflix is either rubbish Grin or requires attention. Unless you like a bbc type costume drama. There's quite a few of those on there.

mintmagnummm · 17/04/2019 18:02

I emailed nars and they said it's unavailable from them and they don't know if it will be back!!

botemp · 17/04/2019 18:03

I can probably forgive a lot of rubbish, Enid, but that rubbish better not include those yummie mummies that Netflix had the audacity to recommend to me Hmm

I did actually start on the McCann docu series previously, Sallie, but I got bored with the erratic pace of it and then I realised there'd be no real ending to tie it up and just never returned to it.

I generally watch international shows on Netflix, Japanese, Korean, French and Scandi mostly but following subtitles requires too much attention. Normally YouTube is my go to for mindless background noise but it takes about an hour to do all areas of my body and I usually don't have that much to watch on YT.

OP posts:
TantricTwist · 17/04/2019 18:09

Yes I have yellow undertones so Alaska works for me, although it seems more peachy than yellow to me.

TantricTwist · 17/04/2019 18:18

I'm currently watching The Marvelous Mrs Maisel which I'm loving which I think is Amazon prime, I have Netflix too.

SallieSallow · 17/04/2019 19:27

Is this not the right one (NARS TM)

www.narscosmetics.co.uk/en/polynesia-pure-radiant-tinted-moisturizer-spf30-pa%2B%2B%2B/0607845023296.html?bvstate=pg%3A4%2Fct%3Ar&bvroute=Reviews%2FshowHelpfulCritical

Maybe I shouldn’t buy it if it’s getting discontinued, as no point finding something I love and can never find again. There’s a Matte TM as well though maybe that’s being ditched too Confused

YesQueen · 17/04/2019 19:53

I'm watching two shows my friend downloaded for me as one is on NOW tv and one isn't available here! 911 (really good) and Manifest

mintmagnummm · 17/04/2019 21:11

Sallie yes that is it, how odd 🤔. This is the response I got from them today....

🐌 Fantastic Skincare: New Year, NuFaces
SallieSallow · 17/04/2019 22:05

That is strange Mint I can’t find it if I go to the NARS site and search for it, but google brings the link that I’ve posted up and says it’s in stock Confused

Look Fantastic, SpaceNK and John Lewis have all got it on their websites too.

JDSTER · 17/04/2019 22:34

ShockAngry if NARS TM is discontinuing! I have a voucher for John Lewis so must stock up.

mintmagnummm · 18/04/2019 05:57

Sallie same here! I can see it if I google or click on your link but not if I go straight to their website! Their response is a little odd, how can they not know about their own products?? I'll be pissed off if they discontinue it, especially after the issues I've just had with lrp changing their formulas!! Why do they do it! I literally have no idea what I will use to replace this! 🤬
