Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15 Thread 16 Thread 17

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Hi all,

What are people using as a day moisturiser? I've run out of the DE Protini and I'm not going to RP. I still have some Cosrx which I love. Just wondering if there's anything new or exciting out there haha.

YesQueen · 18/04/2019 11:18

I'm using alpha h essential hydration cream. My skin seems to love it, it doesn't break me out and it sits well under makeup. I've repurchased which always says a lot!

botemp · 18/04/2019 12:05

Not sure how useful my moisturisers are, as I picked them to use with tret. Toleriane Sensitive (the tube, the EU version of the double repair) in the AM and I'll layer Toleriane Sensitive richen over Toleriane Ultra Nuit.

I did see Dr. Drey recommend a Derma E peptide moisturiser over the DE protini one. I remember looking it up but it was quite a pricey rec from her, still cheaper than DE though.

The p&m moisturiser is really nice though and an old favourite is the Malin +Goetz vitamin e one but that one is probably quite similar to the CosRX.

*Roche not richen

bo god no, no reality shows float my boat apart from Queer Eye and I quite like Project Runway. I was thinking more Dynasty for ott cheesiness.

TantricTwist · 18/04/2019 18:44

I use the following depending on my skin

LRP Toleraine fluide which is now discontinued but I have 2 bottles left
Origins Ginzeng oil free
L'Occitaine divine - when I feel dry
Primarks Alex Steinherr Pollution solution (only just opened this really to test out. It'll be better in the warmer weather.

TantricTwist · 18/04/2019 18:57

I'm quite happy with just my serum and facial mist though so don't always use a moisturiser.

JDSTER · 18/04/2019 19:37

Same as Tantric I’m still using toleriane fluide with a couple of bottles left. In the summer I’m also not that fussed to use a moisturiser, just layering SPF over Vit C

Tsmummy08 · 19/04/2019 15:00

Hi all!

CJ I'm STILL using Ceramidin cream and also the Belif Peat Miracle cream a friend brought over from the States (very nice and plumpy but might have oversold itself on the miracle front). Both suit my dry skin.

Back from Cyprus, picked up some Frezyderm for the summer while over there and realised it's the same price on Amazon, oh well!

Also tried out the Clinique foundation sample I got (Even Better Refresh) for a few days as the weather was crap, and I like it - seemed to be quite smoothing and didn't look dry or cakey, in spite of being more full coverage than I'm used to. Nice one for going out/occasions.

SallieSallow · 19/04/2019 15:36

CJ I use cerave PM which is now available in Boots, I use it in the mornings too during winter but same as JDSTER I just use Vit C followed by spf in summer.

I have located my timeless Vit c which was in the fridge but had got hidden behind a jar of mayo, it doesn’t seem to have gone off or oxidised but wondering if it will still be ok to use, think I opened it round mid February.

I’ve also dug out the nuface but think I’ll wait till I’m a bit more settled to to start that up again.

Oh and I’m living very dangerously and have ordered the NARS TM in St Moritz without testing IRL Shock my skin is fairly adaptable across most medium shades as long as they’re not pink toned and this one says golden undertones so fingers crossed!

Hope you had a lovely holiday TSMummy and you’ve just reminded me I need to stock up on frezyderm for summer Smile surprised it wasn’t cheaper over there though, it’s about £17 on Amazon isn’t it?

mintmagnummm · 19/04/2019 16:08

Sallie I have an unopened frezyderm still in box if you would like it? I bought two when I started using it before I realised it burned my eyes off lol. You're welcome to it, the date is still fine, expiry is 09 2020

mintmagnummm · 19/04/2019 16:09

I've attached pic just so you can see it's in box....

Tsmummy08 · 19/04/2019 18:16

Sallie I think it was £19 on Amazon and I got it for 22€ which is about the same...

SallieSallow · 19/04/2019 19:27

Mint that is very kind of you and I’d be happy to take it off your hands if you’re sure, I’m happy to pay for it or at the very least pay for postage.

mintmagnummm · 19/04/2019 19:49

Sallie it's yours, just pm me your address and I'll take it to the post office one day in the week if that's ok? Don't worry about the postage, my treat x

JDSTER · 19/04/2019 19:57

Same here mint I can’t tolerate frezyderm around my eyes.
I’ve just tried to use the Vit C from VH/GOW and the pump has failed Hmm. I know Bo had the same issue. I’ll email them next week.

SallieSallow · 19/04/2019 20:05

Thank you so much Mint ❤️ I’ll PM you now.

JDSTER I hope you haven’t got the over ejaculating pump like Bo did 🍆 💦 Shock Grin

JDSTER · 21/04/2019 19:35

Can you let me know your favoured topical Vit C please? I really like DE but wondering about trying Vichy or Timeless (where do you buy this from?) Any thoughts please?

Skinfulnappies46 · 21/04/2019 21:09

mint the frezyderm left my eyes in tatters...I put it on at 6.30 am before work and didn’t get home to get it removed until 9pm. I could barely see, they stung so badly and had real difficulty driving home. Never, ever again. No idea what to try now..perhaps Ultrasun? The biore watery essence dried my skin out and I didn’t like the strong alcohol smell from the BodyShop one.

JDSTER · 21/04/2019 21:23

Skinful I really like Biore UV perfect bright milk spf 50 (pink bottle) less drying than Biore watery (that’s what I used to use). Worth checking the reviews to see if you think you’d like it. I use LaRoche posay spfs in stronger sun/holidays, and they don’t irritate my eyes. There’s a few to choose from, depending on skin type. Again, worth looking at reviews.

botemp · 21/04/2019 21:25

Not the premature ejaculator again Shock Don't remind me, a bedroom wall needs to be repainted as a result, didn't notice the spillage until it had oxidised days later.

JDSTER, I got timeless from the timeless UK site. I'll copy paste in a sec, whenever I try to do this lately I lose my post.

I like Vichy but it's on the pricey side at price/ml and needs being kept in the fridge but I did find it handy this time of year as it somehow perfectly timed for having a bit left to take on holiday so could just dump it there at the end. Taking it back and forth not usually something I'd do with a 30ml dropper bottle despite mini fridge in the room. Skinceuticals being ridiculously expensive also factored in with possible breakage during travel.

Skinful, if you're okay with trying an all mineral, I'm using the Pigeon UV SPF50 from Japan (it comes in two sizes make sure to get the larger size as the smallest bottle is teeny tiny, more of a handbag item). It's fragrance and alcohol free and really not irritating, no discernible white cast IME. It's a little greasier than chemical SPFs from Japan but compared to other mineral SPFs it's really quite pleasant. A bit shiny initially but it goes down, not matte though.

Dr. Sam's SPF may also be of interest? There was another one I had been eyeing up from the US that's also similar to the EltaMD SPF46 which you could get through Amazon US but I've forgotten what it was, will look it up, was under $20 delivered IIRC.

Timeless, there seems to always be a 10% off offer on, though I think they also do a referral thing but I either didn't store account info or never signed up (probably the latter) but maybe Sallie can provide insight?

Skin either ultrasun or the avene anti ageing one (not the others)

mintmagnummm · 21/04/2019 22:18

Enid is it you who uses the avene thermal water spray? Debating whether to go back to this one as skin very reactive lately I think due to stress of wedding and my illness.
