Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15 Thread 16 Thread 17

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Dr Dennis Gross pads are pretty full on but do seem effective. I'm quite curious about the ones with self tanner built in but wonder if you need to use those daily to see it.

Ruggy, I've been using the Timeless for a little under a month now. I don't think it's an actual dupe for Skinceuticals, it doesn't give those results but for a vitamin C it's pretty decent and for the price it's a lot more pleasant to use than anything else in that range. Keeping it in the fridge is annoying though. I'm not really getting wonder glow with it (only experienced it with SC and Vichy) but my opinion on that might be a bit skewed as I was in London meeting up with a few people from the Parisian thread and they were rather complimentary about how luminous and lit from within my skin is whilst I thought it was looking pretty crap from being ill the weeks before.

I'm not going to buy a Nuface anytime soon, being on Tret seems to preoccupy my previous boredom with my routine and I'm now going to start focusing on the body now with a glycolic body lotion, a vitamin C of some sorts, a body lotion with niacinamide (possibly the one Enid is using) and maybe I'll take the plunge on a Tripollar device for the body. I already have a higher concentration Tret for the body for KP, I'm hoping I can replicate face success with the body and find a routine that's easy to keep up once I get into it.

How lovely having a meet up Bo. Did people look like the image you had of them? Grin

I’m using NuFace a few times a week. You’re meant to use it daily for the first couple of months but I often can’t be bothered at night. I’m better using it in the morning.

I haven’t mastered sleeping on my back but Bo’s pragmatic response of better to get a good nights sleep is sensible. I am sleeping on two pillows though which I think has helped with having less puffiness around my upper eyelids (could be imagining it of course Confused).

I’m enjoying using DE Vit C. I keep it in the fridge and my current bottle, on the go for a couple of months I think, product looks as good as the day I opened it. The bottle is excellent, with a twist top lid that you close after each use. People have commented I look “well”. I saw someone I haven’t seen for a couple of years and she said “you look so young”! I was delighted of course Smile

CJDoesTheJackal · 28/03/2019 19:36

JDSTER I love the DE Vit C. I'm on my 4th I think. I too keep it in the fridge now. It lasts about 4 months. If I don't use it for a few days (only when I'm on holiday) I notice my skin doesn't look as bright.

RuggyPeg · 28/03/2019 19:47

Connie - it was £100. I was there for an hour and she did both cheeks, round my nose and my chin.

Bo - hhmmm, perhaps I should bite the bullet then and just get skinceuticals vit c 🤔.
I'll get the spelling wrong but Ameliorate body lotion has great reviews.

botemp · 28/03/2019 20:01

Ruggy there usually are some offers going on SC and you can get a half size bottle or get little sample bottles from eBay, it comes out at about half price then. It's definitely cheaper in France, about €125 and usually an offer here and there too, often free shipping if it's over a €100.

Yeah, I know about Ameloriate but that's lactic acid and that seems to do very little for my face and not much for my body either.

JDSTER, everyone at the meetup had posted at least one obscured face photo of themselves at some point so you have a bit of an idea. It would be very different on here as I really only associate on usernames. Who was it that had portraits of us up in their attic on here, Enid? Wink

But anyhow, it did make me realise I'm probably at a point where there aren't going to be any amazing differences, so probably best to judge new products a little less harshly as a result. It may very well be that if I tried Skinceuticals again I'd be a bit meh about that too.

I feel somewhat obliged to try the DE C-Firma but I have a sneaking suspicion I won't react well to the bulked out ingredients it has. I'd try one of the little sizes but you need to buy a whole set of them. In the US they sell it as a duo with the hydra b5, I'd happily buy that if it was available here.

OP posts:
JDSTER · 28/03/2019 21:05

Th DE C-Firma is quite hydrating. I notice on the vey odd occasion I don’t use it, I need a bit more moisturiser. I’m still using the very light ‘original recipe’ LRP toleriane moisturiser (the one that’s been discontinued).

CJDoesTheJackal · 29/03/2019 08:12

DE have a new product out. I can't imagine changing from TTDO. Low price point for DE!

Oh I had seen the email but not the price. I've never been a balm cleanser fanatic so not that interested. Always feel they're a bit poor value for money as you get less and use more.

Good reminder though, my DHC is nearly done, need to order a replacement. I was considering trying out the mythical Fancl from Japan. Who was it on here that tried it? I had hoped to get some Simple cleansing oil in the airport on the way back from London but unfortunately they didn't stock it.

OP posts:
JDSTER · 29/03/2019 14:51

Simple cleansing oil can be tricky to get hold of Bo, I’m not sure why. I’ve got a bottle but haven’t tried it yet. The hado labo oil cleanser is Dr Drays favourite I think

mintmagnummm · 30/03/2019 06:47

Thinking of you Sallie I hope your doing ok x

I've got a really sore spot under my eye, it's not a sty as it's on the actual skin like where eye bags are if that makes sense?! Area looks more puffy because of it too. It's a small whitehead and it's very tender! Is there anything I can put on it? I know I have to be extremely careful so close to the eye and also because the skin is so thin there.

vaz119 · 30/03/2019 08:02

Hi!

Great news I've stopped the biotin Blushand my skin is settling right down.

I've been reading about the vitamin c you all use. I'm currently using medic8 ce tetra and although I love the feel (looking at you ordinary grainy stingy stuff) I'm not convinced I see much improvement after 3 months

I am considering splashing out on the skinceuticals ce. I've seen it with a code for 103 or 107 with a sunscreen

www.facethefuture.co.uk/shop/2391-skinceuticals-c-e-ferulic-ultra-facial-defense-spf-50-kit.html?search_query=SkinCeuticals+C+E+Ferulic&results=2

(sorry for horrid link... Never remember how to do it)

Anyone used this website?

Any other vitamin c you are liking? (I didn't love vichy either)

botemp · 30/03/2019 08:24

The Vichy and Skinceuticals are very similar. What was it that you didn't like about Vichy, Vaz?

Hurray for the acne disappearing with the Biotin! You do realise you are now obliged to go on any thread where biotin is mentioned to scream 'Nooooo! Acne ahead!!' Wink

I ended up ordering the Muji cleansing oil from Japan, JDSTER. It's an old favourite and I still had store credit from a shop that I needed to use up so it was the princely sum of $1.15 incl. shipping. Here's hoping it'll arrive in time (down to a 1/4 of a bottle) 😬

Primark didn't have the microfibre cloths, did see the little cleansing brush your DD has Tant and the pink side is indeed unpleasant but I did find these little silicon 'brushes' that look and feel very similar to a Foreo. They're just flat and have a little handle on the back. Figured I could use it as a makeup brush cleansing tool if it didn't work for my face. Have used it twice now and quite like it, very gentle and does seem to lift the worst of the peeling (which really isn't that bad) without overdoing it. Certainly a lot better than an ordinary flannel. I'll see how it goes and whether to splash out on an actual Foreo or not.

Vaz I've ordered from that website before, they are genuine

RuggyPeg · 31/03/2019 09:02

Well I've just thought feck it and life's too short and ordered retriderm 1% retinol & Skinceuticals C E Ferulic! Got 10% off and a free SPF, sooooo, totally justifiable right....... 😁

vaz119 · 31/03/2019 10:01

Bo I didn't love the texture of the vichy. I found it a bit sticky and just didn't glide on or spread as nicely as the medic8

mint... Thanks ... Always worried about trying somewhere new!

I order most of my skincare on EasyPharmacie website thanks to this group... Has anyone tried the LRP b5 serum? Thoughts?

mintmagnummm · 31/03/2019 11:51

No worries vaz I'm the same. They are definitely authorised stockists though as I have checked :-)

Tsmummy08 · 31/03/2019 18:11

Hi all, thought I'd let you know that I had tear trough fillers last week - haven't posted about it yet as I'm trying to get some decent pics and wanted to wait until it had settled but do have "before" pics (scary)!

I'm really happy with the results - not perfect (my expectations were managed quite well) but much improved. I just look less tired and, coupled with not drinking for a couple of months, fairly glowy. Results are definitely better with makeup, as there's still some under-eye discolouration.

Not a pleasant procedure though and not one for the faint of heart!

YesQueen · 02/04/2019 00:05

Wrote a giant post and the app crashed Angry

Anyway. Makeup review! I think this is everything I've bought recently...

Charlotte tilbury flawless filter. Sleep in a bottle, I love it. Shove it under eyes and on cheekbones under foundation and a dab over foundation and it's a luminous glow. I need a vat of this, and got shade 1

Charlotte tilbury colour chameleon, I got amber haze and bronzed garnet. Gorgeous colours, lovely and soft

CYO foundation. Holy grail, I have sold my Chanel/Lancôme etc etc and am stocking up on this, it's like butter and sits perfectly on my skin. Shade range sucks

No 7 hydraluminous dark circle concealer. Hate the applicator but the product is good, and a really neutral interesting tone that seems to dull down circles well

Clio kill waterproof eyeliner (the brush tip one). Incredibly fine tip, mega easy to use and cheap, would buy again. I got the gelpresso pencil liner too which is good and doesn't irritate my eyes

Wet n wild blossom glow highlighter. Lovely. Dirt cheap and a range of shades, does what it says on the tin

EnidButton · 02/04/2019 00:58

Always love your makeup reviews/recs Queen I keep eyeing that CT flawless filter. Good to hear you like it.

EnidButton · 02/04/2019 01:01

Queen which cyo foundation and shade do you like?

mintmagnummm · 02/04/2019 06:37

Escentual have 1/3 off French pharmacy and it includes bioderma this time

YesQueen · 02/04/2019 06:59

Enid - I wear the palest (think it's 101?) and it's the lifeproof one

RuggyPeg · 02/04/2019 07:39

I agree - CT flawless filter is amazing. I rarely use anything else now.

vaz119 · 02/04/2019 07:46

Queen... Sounds like I need this ct stuff Grin

Mint thanks for the escentual reminder... I just ordered all my favourite stuff! And just got the vichy vitamin c again cause it was £18something

botemp · 02/04/2019 07:52

I tried on the CT filter at counter but felt it was a bit much on me but could see it working well under foundation (which I never wear). I tend to be very Hmm about CT products but this one does actually seem worthy of the hype.

I'm not sure I like the sound of butter on my face Shock we have an expression in Dutch about having butter on one's head, it's a bit glass houses, don't judge someone when there's plenty to remark about you. I thought CYO was some expensive brand I never heard of seeing that you sold everything else for it but it's really cheap? Is it Korean? I know the Clio stuff is.

Vaz, I rarely complain about things being sticky so don't recall Vichy being sticky but the Skinceuticals is pretty similar in formulation, it's just a minor difference of a few ingredients. It's a similar lightweight watery serum that needs a quick pat in to get everywhere, SC does spread a bit easier IIRC. SanteDiscount usually has Skinceuticals on offer, around €125 and free shipping over a €100. They also sell half sizes or sets with the sunscreen or HA intensifier. I wouldn't recommend going for the one with SPF, it's a really unpleasant one (the sheer one is nice but for whatever reason never sold as part of a set). Lookfantastic also carries SC, sometimes it qualifies for their eternal 20% off sometimes it doesn't. I think it's not supposed to but sometimes it slips through.
