Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a lightbulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Thanks JDSTER.

I haven't been buying anything new. So not much to post. The weather is too weird to try anything, I think it'll influence skin reacts. I feel like Winter is when the skincare big guns come out for a lot of people. You can have nice pamper evenings with baths etc then too. Too bloomin hot atm!

I was without my Keihl's eye cream for two days so pounced on that when it was delivered earlier. V.soothing. Also ran out of Vichy aqualia serum after 2 and a half years. Shock That's two bottles but still. They've changed the packaging. It's in a lovely cone shaped glass pale blue bottle now. Very pretty.

The serum is just for my nose. How bloody ridiculous. 🙄😬

Like the sound of the lrp spray spf. Creams take a while to sink in. Really fancy a sun hat now too! Don't intend to get my hair coloured again so it'll stop that fading maybe. Plus they look cool.

EnidButton · 23/07/2018 19:55

Hair coloured again ^soon*!! Definitely not, not colouring my hair ever again! Been doing it since I was 14. Not stopping now. 😎

EnidButton · 23/07/2018 19:56

Jeez did that even make sense? Confused

banivani · 23/07/2018 20:18

Haha enid! I agree, with this weather there’s not much layering of products going on, is there... I came home from Croatia with ok skin and then suddenly erupted with five massive cysts in my left jaw line ten days ago. Then I got my period but hormonal acne on just one side? Still odd. Looks terrible. They’re going down slowly but I hate them.

I had no faith in copper, but I had to ask. ;)

Skinfulnappies46 · 23/07/2018 20:21

Evening all, probably been mentioned before but does anyone else rate Origins? I got a little tube of ginseng moisturiser in my m&s summer beauty box. I am really liking it and a little goes a long way. Would consider repurchasing but would value the opinion of sone of you knowledgeable folk! 😊

TantricTwist · 23/07/2018 20:41

Origins make great products skin I'm loving the ginseng gel. Their products are good for people with difficult skin.

SallieSallow · 23/07/2018 20:59

Hello to all 👋

I've not been round much either as I've been absolutely inundated with visitors lately and been away a fair bit too - just work travel and a couple of weekend breaks but feels like I've not stopped for the last 6 weeks or so.

My routine is still extremely minimal and I'm not planning to change that or buy anything new until nearer autumn now, and I definitely don't need moisturiser at the moment! I'm away again in August so I'll re-assess after that.

I didn't buy these recently but my Vita liberata body blur and hourglass ambient lighting palette have been getting extensive use recently, absolutely love them both as well as my tinted Frezyderm.

I'd love to wear a sun hat but I'm weird with any kind of head wear as find it intensely irritating and have to take it off after about 5 minutes. I have very thick dark hair though so don't really need a hat.

Skinfulnappies46 · 23/07/2018 21:26

Thanks tantric. Was almost afraid to ask as I really do like it but usually I pick the overpriced, underperforming products!

TantricTwist · 23/07/2018 21:59

Quite a few of my friends swear by Origins for their tricky dryish type skin Skinful

EnidButton · 23/07/2018 23:36

I have a couple of Origins clay face masks, I haven't used them for a while. They brought the spots out that I bought them for but also brought out some more that weren't there before. I kept them though as I do think they're good. Maybe not right for my skin. I intend to try them again. Also tried the face wash. Can't remember the name, it was in a white tube? Anyway that really dried my skin out. I wasn't ingredient savvy then though so there's a chance I was allergic or intolerant to one of the ingredients. I don't think they're bad or anything though.

Pupsiecola · 24/07/2018 16:59

My hat is here! Complete with red bag. I have only tried it on in the car. It feels big lol but I love how you can adjust the rim. V happy with the navy colour 👌

TantricTwist · 24/07/2018 21:29

I have to say Frezyderm has been an absolute lifesaver in this hot weather. My face hasnt burnt at all with it on and it keeps my skin lovely and supple ie doesnt dry it out, I just love it. I have been on the beach for 4 hours and no redness or burning, yay Smile

SophieLion · 25/07/2018 06:57

Hi Skinful, don't know much about Origins but IIRC they all smell very nice!

Glad to hear you're happy with the hat Pupsie! Bit miffed now that I didn't get a carrying bag and seems odd because I ordered direct from the company. I just emailed them actually to politely ask why Sam Bunting has a bag, why someone who ordered from a UK website has a bag and why did I not get a bag.....?

Pupsiecola · 25/07/2018 08:53

Good idea Sophie. At that price you should get a bag! I can see it's going to be handy for keeping it closes up to carry around in my bag.

DH just sent me this. Obviously my droning on about SPF has had an impact 😁

www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-44936124

SophieLion · 25/07/2018 12:27

Well exactly Pupsie. Especially since I bought it direct from the company.

My derm was saying something similar about SPF and people constantly not applying enough.

Pupsiecola · 25/07/2018 17:01

I'm away from Saturday. If this thread gets close to becoming full can someone please start a new one?!

TantricTwist · 25/07/2018 20:31

What do we call it? Shock Pupsie can you maybe start one before you go if you're good at that sort of thing, I for example am not Confused

TantricTwist · 25/07/2018 20:35

I've just got back from a swim in the sea and it was just glorious after being at work most of the day, so warm as well the water was.

My skin feels really smooth as well Confused maybe that's down to a shower at home and cleansing face then another shower after swim and re-cleansing face Hmm

botemp · 25/07/2018 20:39

I got alerted by PM that the thread is nearly up. I'm away on holiday but should be able to put a new thread up in a bit.

Hi Bo we miss and love you very much

MrMeeseeks · 25/07/2018 21:12

I contributed to this thread only once with some fairly useless info but absolutely love the wealth of knowledge I've gathered from it. From what I can see the OP might have lost interest or got too busy to post. Maybe someone else should take over?

TantricTwist · 25/07/2018 21:13

Mint is this you in disguise Grin

MrMeeseeks · 25/07/2018 21:18

No! I didn't mean to speak out of turn, I hadn't seen that Botemp had posted just before me. I'm just one of many lurkers enjoying better skin as a result of these threads Smile

botemp · 25/07/2018 22:36

Et voilà
