Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a lightbulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Hi Mint, I doubt the photo of your pet rats has anything to do with it. No one could seriously get offended by that! We were all
joking about different small (cute) animals from what I recall.

Pupsiecola · 23/07/2018 13:09

Perhaps she will be back. I don't know for sure. It's not the same without her words of wisdom though.

I've just ordered one of those sunhats Dr. Sam recommends. Bit £££ but I also realised I need serious protection as off to France/Spain next week for 2 weeks. I see it as an investment though, and given that it's not much more than a bottle of DE Vit C I think I'm okay with it. I went for the navy. Didn't someone here by one?

I'm liking the LRP SPF spray. Thanks to whoever recommend that. Am I using it correctly? Just spray it over face slowly and let it sink in?

ChesterBelloc · 23/07/2018 13:47

(In brackets: this is an anonymous forum; no one is obliged to post if they don't wish to, and neither do they need to provide an explanation if they don't. Either way, no one should take it personally.)

JDSTER · 23/07/2018 13:49

mint I think you’re reading too much into the rat thing. pupsie may I ask why you think that? I think I’ve missed something Confused

mintmagnummm · 23/07/2018 13:58

I only said about the rat thing as pupsie said it wasn't SOLELY the reason which suggests it did have something to do with it though, unless I misunderstood.

Pupsie I could do with a sun hat, which one are you referring to if you don't mind me asking?

Pupsiecola · 23/07/2018 14:01

I completely agree Chester.

JDSTER I don't feel it's my place to explain why Bo isn't around. I did feel I needed to defend her a little as people started to assume it was solely because of the rat pictures. I hope she'll come back because I miss her insights/posts.

I think it's generally quiet here because of holidays and no-one's really buying/researching anything new?

Hopefully normal service will be resumed at some point; this is the only thread I regularly check on MN. It'd be a shame if it disappeared Sad.

Pupsiecola · 23/07/2018 14:03

Mint you actually mentioned the rat pictures BEFORE my comment; it wasn't me who raised that.

JDSTER · 23/07/2018 14:07

Thanks pupsie I understand. I certainly didn’t think about or even remember the rat pictures. I just noticed her lack of presence and, as you say, her insightful posts, which I also miss. Also completely agreee with chester no one needs to continue posting or explain anything on this anonymous forum.

SophieLion · 23/07/2018 15:08

I have the hat Pupsie! In black. The navy is also nice (and won't get dirty!). Really happy with it. You can fold it up (so it can be kept in your bag), adjust the brim - so if you want to lie on a sun lounger, you can flip up the back part so it's not uncomfortable. It's also big so gives lots of coverage. Was expensive but worth it IMO. I wouldn't wear it around the city as it's quite big but is perfect for the beach/island/holiday resort. It took a while to arrive though (I ordered from Singapore though) so hope your one arrives in time.

Sage words Chester. Anyway I think rats or other rodents have nothing to do with Bo's absence. I also miss her on this thread.

EnidButton · 23/07/2018 15:08

I mentioned the pic earlier, I hadn't thought deeply into it, sorry. My apologies. Cake

SophieLion · 23/07/2018 15:11

And no Pupsie, I for one am not trying anything new on my skin. My spots are slowly going and my chin is almost clear (hope I'm not jinxing it by writing that !!!!). Am just using tret 3x a week and azelaic acid on other nights.

Pupsiecola · 23/07/2018 15:19

Thanks Sophie. I'm so glad you like it!! I ordered mine from Beach Flamingo and it will be here tomorrow. Time not on my side. I didn't pay for next day delivery as the other option was 3-4 working days which I figured would be fine (we leave on Saturday). And it's coming tomorrow anyway. I'm sure that's such a con; lots of companies ship straight away whether you pay the extra or not. I guess it guarantees delivery at least.

I did get the right one didn't I?!

www.beachflamingo.com/collections/hats/products/global-babe-navy-uva-uvb-ray-protective-sun-hat

SophieLion · 23/07/2018 15:25

Yes that's the one Pupsie! Oh I've had that with Amazon - I've often chosen free delivery which they say is 3-5 days and then it arrives the next day (so just as well I didn't pay for next day delivery!).

For anyone else buying, IIRC the hat is slightly cheaper from the Global Babes website in Singapore but the downside is that it takes about 20 working days to arrive in Europe.

banivani · 23/07/2018 15:27

In agreement about the fact that no-one is under any obligations here.

Har anybody noticed a difference using copper peptides in skincare?

Pupsiecola · 23/07/2018 15:31

Yes Sophie I've definitely paid over the odds for not being more organised!

bani I have used copper peptides but didn't see much difference (not sure if that's what you want to hear or not!).

mintmagnummm · 23/07/2018 15:50

Ah yes sorry it was Enid who mentioned rats before pupsie.

Pupsie I did actually ask you about the hat you bought in the same post and you didn't respond to that part so not sure if you did that purposely or whether you just missed it, I'm feeling all bloody paranoid now! Although I have now seen your link to the hat in a message to someone else so at least I have my answer.
I feel like there's a little hostility towards me tbh as most of my comments have been picked up and challenged indirectly. Again I could be being paranoid. Maybe if I leave the thread bo will be back! Don't feel id be particularly missed tbh so I'll just lurk from now on. I wish you all well.

SophieLion · 23/07/2018 15:58

Mint, I don't think you should be taking offence at things as questions often get missed. For eg, I asked a while ago about a matte fuchsia lipstick (actually I asked twice!) and no one answered or acknowledged my question. I just posted on another thread and got some info I wanted. That's just how it works sometimes.

SophieLion · 23/07/2018 16:00

The hat is the Global Babes sunhat which someone brought up a while ago as it's recommended by Dr Sam and has a SPF 1200 (or something like that. I embellished it to SPF 8000 once!).

Bunting has a short You Tube video about it (although my hat didn't come with the case that Dr Sam had with her hat - wonder if your hat will have the case, Pupsie?)

Pupsiecola · 23/07/2018 16:11

Oooh, I didn't know there was a case Sophie! I couldn't remember the name of the brand, but a quick Google of "Dr Sam Bunting sun hat" threw up a bunch of articles/videos. Hence I was then worried that I'd ordered the wrong one! I also thought I'd read somewhere that there were different sizes, but when I went to order there was only the 'one size'. I checked their Singapore website too and that only appeared to show one size.

I hope it fits!!

Pupsiecola · 23/07/2018 16:16

I just rewatched Dr Sam's video Sophie and I see the bag! I want the bag!

SophieLion · 23/07/2018 17:46

Pupsie, I'm thinking the bag might be from a couple of years ago and they don't do it anymore. You'll have to let me know if yours comes with a bag.

There are actually three sizes of the hat I think: a smaller version for children, the size you've ordered and then an even bigger one. I thought they were all on the global babe website.

Pupsiecola · 23/07/2018 17:57

Thanks Sophie. I wonder if there are any options for men. DH is folically challenged and lives in caps if there is even a hint of sunshine.

JDSTER · 23/07/2018 19:12

bani I tried NIOD copper peptides and didn’t notice any difference.

JDSTER · 23/07/2018 19:18

pupsie I forgot to say that LRP spray spf is in my arsenal of facial sunscreens. I use it as an ‘in between’ to top up during the day. I just spray and let it sink in, as you say.

TantricTwist · 23/07/2018 19:45

Bani I tried NIOD copper and still not sure if it made a difference or not.

I'm going to have to watch this Dr Sam video re hat and bag, but later as I'm half asleep.
