Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a lightbulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

Thanks enid I don’t like them being in, I’m very aware of the sensation of something in my mouth, if you know what I mean. How long until you noticed a difference?

TantricTwist · 20/07/2018 10:25

Sephora have a French site thats working, which incidentally I can actually understand even with my limited School girl French.

Sephora France is nowhere near as good as the US. Bit of a strange move?

I think if you use VPN you can access it but whether it will allow you to order anything to the UK is a different story!

EnidButton · 20/07/2018 13:07

Wtf Sephora! Does anyone know why? Angry

JD I can't remember properly but I think it was about 2-3 weeks. Probably depends on the gel strength too. Mine was over ten years ago so it might have improved since then and be quicker. They are awkward to use.

EnidButton · 20/07/2018 13:10

Oh this is really annoying!

I'm happy with the lrp tokerian cleanser but Dr Sam's new cleanser looks good. I'm tempted.

mintmagnummm · 20/07/2018 13:43

Has anyone tried coola mineral cucumber spf for face?

TantricTwist · 20/07/2018 14:25

I bought SR Skincare GHK copper peptide serum ages ago when I was about to run out of NIOD CAIS and I used it for the first time this morning, I totally forgot I had it as it was hidden behind my array of products.

It's a clear gel consistency and I'm going to use it everyday under my Frezyderm SPF as I'm not currently using a moisturiser in the am.

TantricTwist · 20/07/2018 14:26

mint I react to any product with cucumber in it and aloe vera so it's defo something I would personally avoid.

miffy2 · 20/07/2018 19:03

That’s weird and annoying about Sephora. I’m in Ireland and can still access the US site but I think it’s because they never did delivery to here from there. I’ve ordered several times and had stuff sent to friends. I’m hoping they don’t change that either as I love a good online browse.

cad186 · 20/07/2018 22:54

Not skincare but make up related. I bought Giorgio Armani luminous silk foundation last week and it's amazing! Would highly recommend!

Pupsiecola · 21/07/2018 08:24

I hope Hush Puppies don't stop me from seeing/shopping via their US site. They do brilliant size 9s and 10s. I just ordered some lovely sandals via MyUS. It wasn't cheap but I'm used to being financially penalised for having longer feet Confused. HP no longer have a UK website.

BagelGoesWalking · 21/07/2018 12:12

Following the Garden of Wisdom love, has anyone used their Daily Hydrator?

Ingredients are: Spring Water Sodium PCA Safflower Oil Organic High Linoleic Sclerotium Gum Optiphen Chardonnay Grapeseed Oil Cloudberry Oil East Shea Oil Hyaluronic Acid Ceramides

SophieLion · 21/07/2018 12:43

Thanks Cad. I've heard good things about it and I know it's on Sam Bunting's list of approved products for acne-prone skin. I have the Chanel Vitalumiere which I think Sam is also ok with but might consider the Armani one when that runs out.

TantricTwist · 21/07/2018 23:02

Finally got my 2 tubes of differin which I will try out after summer.

I was just thinking it’s a shame we haven’t seen Bo on here for several weeks now. I can see she’s still around on S&B.

EnidButton · 22/07/2018 23:07

Gorgeous shade of red on your lips Olli!

JD Same. It was after a rat photo was posted. Said she'd hide the thread if a pic was posted, I thought she was joking but I guess not.

Ollivander84 · 22/07/2018 23:10

The lipstick is fenty lip paint stunna Smile really lovely colour
Foundation is doublewear, fenty highlight. We bonded over makeup Grin so used a mix of mine and the MUA stuff

mintmagnummm · 23/07/2018 06:16

If bo has abandoned this thread due to one pic of my PET rats I will be really offended tbh. I could understand if I posted horrible pics but these were of my pets and I was asked for a pic of them. Lots of us have asked after her on here and I even tagged her asking if she was ok but have had no response at all which is a tad disrespectful I think. I even posted on the other thread she is on saying I'm glad to see she's ok but again I was just completely ignored.

Pupsiecola · 23/07/2018 08:28

I don't think Bo will be back sadly. It was't solely down to the rat picture. I miss her on this thread.

PickledHoneybuzzard · 23/07/2018 08:50

I really miss Bo too, reading back through this thread I thought the pictures probably weren't the only issue.

Does anyone have any eye cream reccomendations? I think I've seen Redermic mentioned positively. I use RetinA and don't really have wrinkles but I'm beginning to go a bit crinkly under the eyes.

mintmagnummm · 23/07/2018 09:23

Pupsie you say it wasn't solely down to the pic which suggests it did play a part though, I really don't get that?! I was asked to post a pic of my sons pets, they look just like hamsters, gerbils etc so I really don't see an issue there, plus I only posted the pic once! It would be nice if she could at least acknowledge the well wishes on here and everyone asking if she's ok. Is it something someone did or said?

EnidButton · 23/07/2018 12:48

I was just speculating about the pic. I don't really know. Very sad she won't be back. Sad I hadn't realised that.
