Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a lightbulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

Tant what kind of things can you have for brek lunch and dinner on that diet??

TantricTwist · 15/07/2018 17:41

I'm still working it out Mint Grin.
The reason I'm finding it easy is because I'm having to keep my meals quite simple till I get the hang of it all.

TantricTwist · 15/07/2018 17:52

It's not a diet Mint it's a healthy eating plan Wink

mintmagnummm · 15/07/2018 20:45

Tant 😁. I'd be rubbish, just had another ice cream! Think I've actually had one every night for a week!!

Shop · 15/07/2018 21:21

Ive done slimming world for a couple of months Tant is much easier once you get used to it.
Pinch of nom is a great website for recipes

EnidButton · 15/07/2018 22:25

My friend is on that Tant. I've seen pics of her meals and it looks really good. She can eat loads. Seems like the kind of 'healthy eating' that's sustainable afterwards.

Needed a body moisturiser that was very quickly absorbed and easy to apply without having to massage it in. Mainly to pop on my arms and shins just before leaving the house as a top up. Love my usual ones but they take a while to sink in

Bought Neutrogena hydro boost body gel cream. It has hyaluronic acid in it and it's a gel type consistency. Sinks in very fast, feels very light but moisturising, light scent possibly cucumber. Little pump on the bottle, so easy to do quickly. It's mainly glycerin, olivates and sodium hyaluronate. Put some on straight away in the car and it sank in fast. I like it so far.

Ollivander84 · 15/07/2018 22:36

Ooh the body shop sorbet body stuff is good for that too

miffy2 · 15/07/2018 22:48

Enid I have that body gel too, I got it in Penneys/Primark for some ridiculously low price so I could not leave it behind. I keep it by my bed and slather it on my legs before going to sleep, as I am using self-tanner at the moment it helps if the skin is regularly hydrated. I like.

I tried Slimming World but gave up after about 6 weeks and no weight loss. When I go on those plans I tend to obsess about food, my next meal, the week ahead, what treats I can have etc. Now I am trying to keep to 16:8 intermittent fasting (eating between 12 and 8 suits me as I am off work for the summer) and sticking to healthy choices during those hours...mostly!

EnidButton · 16/07/2018 01:05

Good to hear Miffy, I thought it sounded nice for the hot weather.

Like the sound of anything called a sorbet Olli so I'll have to test that one too.

Ollivander84 · 16/07/2018 06:24

Enid - definitely give them a go, I have the pink grapefruit one and they smell amazing too

miffy2 · 16/07/2018 10:31

Vitamin C conundrum here.

I am currently using DE C Firma (second bottle) and the one downside is not knowing when the ruddy thing will run out. I am going to Spain in two weeks for a fortnight and don't know whether to leave it at home and maybe try another while there. GOW is an option but delivery not guaranteed in time as it is still on pre-order. So I am tempted by Vichy C serum. It is currently on offer on lookfantastic; where I will be staying is all one one floor so I can happily store it in the fridge. Those of you who have used the Vichy, do you love it? Would you buy it again?

Tsmummy08 · 16/07/2018 12:09

Miffy I'm using the Vichy vit C at the moment while I await the launch of DE over here (hurry up Space NK!!). It's not as luxe as the DE, more like a water, less of a serum and is less stingy and therefore possibly less effective than the DE. It's similar to the Active Formulas consistency. Tiny bottle though. I'd try it to tide you over until you can get your mitts on some DE or the GOW one which I'll probably try next (it was OOS when I was purchasing).

miffy2 · 16/07/2018 14:18

Thanks, Tsmummy. I actually don't get any stinging from DE either :) and will be re-purchasing when I can get it here or if not in the US in October.

DE need to put an 'almost finished' viewing hole in the container or have a red flag pop up so I can see when it is running out. It's like Russian roulette!

mintmagnummm · 16/07/2018 14:24

Enid I just ordered that neutrogena body gel cream. You made me do it 🤣

PickledHoneybuzzard · 16/07/2018 14:54

I've been finding that spf is drying out the skin on my body but if I put body lotion on first it all ends up in a big greasy mess.
I experimented with hada labo premium HA and it is amazing under spf!
If you have any do try it.

SophieLion · 16/07/2018 15:09

Which SPF were you using on your body Pickled?

PickledHoneybuzzard · 16/07/2018 15:30

Altruist, M&S, Nivea, UltraSun and Lacura off the top of my head. I've had a big push on to use up various opened bottles which are less than a year old.
Tbh I think there's something in spf that just dries my skin.

SophieLion · 16/07/2018 15:49

I haven't used any of those brands apart from Nivea. I use Vichy SPF 50 and don't find it drying if that's a brand you might like to consider.

PickledHoneybuzzard · 16/07/2018 15:59

Thanks Sophie I'll be needing a new one shortly, I'll try that. I don't think I've ever used a Vichy sunscreen before.

TantricTwist · 16/07/2018 17:01

I use P20 on my body and my skin never dries out as its a dry oil.

It also has never stained my clothes etc as I let it dry a few minutes.
I also use Lancaster on my body which I've always been happy with.

mintmagnummm · 16/07/2018 17:50

Sophie funny you should say that, this afternoon I ordered the Vichy spf 50 body milk and I use the Vichy kids one on my son

TantricTwist · 16/07/2018 18:12

Hurrah my differin has finally been approved by the Boots online thingy

mintmagnummm · 16/07/2018 19:22

Why does my face sweat loads as soon as I put spf on? It's literally as soon as I've put it on I start feeling it sweating out 🤔

Shop · 16/07/2018 20:08

miffy have you tried the torch on your phone under the DE? It works on all the airless pumps I have but don’t have DE so I’m not sure it would
