Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a lightbulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Ooh Shop, no I have not done that but I will try tonight! Thanks for the tip :)

Placed a couple of orders this week:

More Frezyderm from Amazon
Vichy vitamin c
Sam Bunting cleanser

I also recently got PC 2% BHA but bought the liquid rather than the lotion, which I had used two samples of successfully. Thankfully I just bought the tiny 30ml bottle so I will use that a couple of nights a week and then buy the lotion. I rarely use salicylic acid but have recently noticed enlarged pores and blackheads around my nose. I liked the lotion so thought I would give it a whirl.

Hope you like the body moisturiser Mint

I'm casually looking at face moisturisers as I think the lrp toleriane might be causing some congestion on my forehead and temples. Love it for under make up but wondering if there's one I could use on make up free days and in the evenings. Will start by looking at other ones by la Roche posay.

mintmagnummm · 17/07/2018 06:31

Enid I'll keep you posted on the body cream.
I found ALL lrp moisturisers caused congestion on my skin :-(

mintmagnummm · 17/07/2018 06:32

My bloody throat is sore again, on the other side this time!

ChesterBelloc · 17/07/2018 10:58

Try gargling vodka (or any high-alcohol spirit), mint. Sometimes it just does the job, killing off the germs before they can really take hold.

ChesterBelloc · 17/07/2018 11:00

For anyone whose eyes reacted badly to Frezyderm, I've been using Altruist's SPF 50 cream for a few days now, right up to my eyes, and have had absolutely no issues at all.

It's quite a light texture, sinks in reasonably fast, and doesn't leave a white cast. Developed by a dermatologist who's also a skin-cancer specialist, available on Amazon.

mintmagnummm · 17/07/2018 18:32

Chester I'm glad the altruist has worked well for you 👍🏻.

Enid tried that body cream, love the texture and it smells lovely but it really stung my legs and I now have a rash, can't work out what it could be from the ingredients as there's nothing offensive in there, the only thing it could be is the fragrance components? Back to my tried and trusted palmers. Was worth a try though.

PickledHoneybuzzard · 17/07/2018 21:55

Has anyone used Environ? I had a free skin analysis with them today, it was interesting but not enough to make me sign up. The thing I found odd was that their sunscreen is a mineral based SPF15, they don't go higher because higher spf is 'chemical and can actually cause skin cancer'.......😯🤔

TantricTwist · 17/07/2018 22:24

Did they have any research to back up this theory do you know?

JDSTER · 17/07/2018 22:43

miffy ts DH came home with TWO bottles of DE Vit C. Bless him, all I can think about is stability Blush. I’ll keep both opened and unopened in fridge. How long does a bottle tend to last?

Tsmummy08 · 18/07/2018 08:58

JDSTER Lucky you! Brownie points for your DH! Stability should be fine due to the packaging.

I found a bottle lasted 7+ months using it every other day - not kept in the fridge. I would say 6 months is probably best and the next bottle I have will be used most days. Enjoy - I'll be interested to hear what you think :)

Pupsiecola · 18/07/2018 11:12

Nice JDSTER! I Mine lasted 5 months of every day use. I tend to use 1.5 pumps as I take it down to top of bust line. I don't keep mine in fridge (apart from in wine fridge these last few weeks lol). I'd stick a sticker on the current one so that you don't open the second by mistake.

Enid I love my Cosrx moisturising lotion.

miffy2 · 18/07/2018 12:35

Shop - top tip re the torch. I took a look and I have more than half my bottle left. Phew. I get between 5-6 months out of it using 1 pump a day. I started using this on at the end of May so hopefully it will last until I go to the US late October. I have the Vichy 10ml on the way so I will interrupt use and switch to that for my holiday in Spain. I am also interested in the Lixirskin vitamin C paste although I think I would only use it weekend mornings when I would have the time to faff around with a mask Grin

mintmagnummm · 18/07/2018 19:01

I'm really spotty at the mo and have got a couple of cystic acne breakouts on my jawline which I haven't had for a long time. Maybe it's all the sweating in this heat 😏

JDSTER · 18/07/2018 19:36

I use Vit C every morning so around 6 months sounds about right. I tried it this morning. It sinks in well so all good so far.

EnidButton · 18/07/2018 21:36

Can you try it on your arms mint? I have to be more careful with my shins/calves. Usually use aveeno on there if I've shaved that day or day before.

Thank you Pupsie, I'll take a look at that one.

cad186 · 18/07/2018 22:30

I think I might try that moisturiser too pupsie, where do you get it from?

BagelGoesWalking · 19/07/2018 16:08

Renarde I got the Pai cleanser today! Thank you so much again. I've made an appropriate donation to one of the dog/cat rescues I follow. Will start patch testing it tonight. Fun times. 😬

mintmagnummm · 19/07/2018 16:38

Sorry Enid not sure if I replied to your last message 🤔 (fibro fog) anyway incase I didn't, I asked in boots if I could exchange it for my usual palmers as it gave me a rash and they were absolutely fine about it.
I'm still really enjoying the bioderma shower oil, although I've almost finished the first smaller bottle I bought which wasn't that long ago! Hopefully the big size I have in my stash will last a good while. I'm using it for shaving too and it's fab!

mintmagnummm · 19/07/2018 16:39

I'm also really happy with the bumble and bumble invisible oil primer spray, will definitely repurchase this for sure! Am tempted to try the shampoo in the same range once my pureology shampoo has finished.

EnidButton · 19/07/2018 17:56

Oh that's good Mint Smile (I just wrote Enid instead of Mint so totally get the fog thing. 😏 The heat makes mine worse.)

JDSTER · 19/07/2018 21:06

Just picked up my teeth whitening trays from Dentist today. I haven’t done it before. I’m sat here with them in, feels very strange!

Pupsiecola · 19/07/2018 22:23

Cad I'm pretty sure I got it on eBay.

EnidButton · 20/07/2018 01:05

Ooh JD exciting! Honestly. I remember when I had them before my wedding. Watching the progress was very satisfying. I still have my trays so I'm planning on getting the gel when I'm at the dentist and doing them again. They can make your teeth a bit sensitive. If you rub sensodyne directly on them, particularly on the edges, it helps with that. Let us know how it goes.

Tsmummy08 · 20/07/2018 07:21

Anyone seen the post by BBB about Sephora being blocked to UK (possibly EU) customers? And I don't mean you can't order from there, I mean you can't even see the site.. I'm pretty fucked off because I've got loads of points stacked up and was going to place an order for one of my US friends to bring something over next month (guess what lol).
