Good prompt Count to consider Halloween-tastic scents...The Dark Heart could be a contender...Halloween Grin

CountFosco · 31/10/2017 17:06

Any pumpkin scents? Or Haribo overdose? Or a more tasteful apple?

GreenPolishToGo · 31/10/2017 17:34

Halloween perfumes:

Magie Noire;
Poison;
Illamasqua Freak;
Reek Damn Rebel Witches (not smelt this one but the 'nose' is Sarah McCartney and the sister scent Damn Rebel Bitches) is gorgeous.

We have just had to scuttle round the corner for extra treats because the treat basket was looking on the sparse side. But it is now overflowing, DS is dressed up as Harry Potter and the pumpkins are glowing spookily at the front door. Halloween Smile Odd to think Halloween was just something to read about in American storybooks when I was a child.

Pest PM me your details and I'll do my best to decant some for you.

Poison and Magie Noire are good suggestions, Green. I haven't tried the others though.

Something like Up the Apples and Pears would work well too - the slightly sweet, boozy apples for the apple bobbing and autumn season.

I think something to evoke a witch in the forest would work nicely too - something mossy, musky with a sharp green/herby note.

Alternatively, something which screams luxurious velvet, blood-red wine and decadence (Interview with a Vampire-esque).

Unfortunately, I haven't tried enough perfumes to suggest any but if anyone can match something to those descriptions, I'd love to smell it! Grin

GreenPolishToGo · 31/10/2017 18:31

Illamasqua Freak
Reek Damn Rebel Witches

Yes, yes, definitely Boldly to Up the Apples and Pears for apple bobbing. Clinique Aromatics Elixir fits the bill for mossy and bitter green, How about Opium for red velvet, red wine and decadence? And it would have to be vintage because, although I do like the reformulated version too, it is the difference between a tiger snarling out of the bottle to grab you by the throat and a pussycat tapping you on the knee for attention.

Boldly, Noir de Noir would be good for your luxurious dark red velvet. Lolita Lempika would be good for apples - I always forget which is the licorice one.

Black Velvet Cafe of course too. Have always wondered a bit about Black Afgano - seems to be a bit of monster? Which brings us to Beaufort - with all the blood, guts and gunpowder, 1805 might be a good fit with fright night? And the one I'd most like to try is the Tilda Swinton/ELdO, Like This, which seems packed full of pumpkin. Anyone tried?

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 31/10/2017 20:05

Appley definitely sounds like a better approach than any eau de blood and guts type scent...

Snap Fosco - London 1969 for me too. Lasted longer though - I do like this one!!

DS2 sent home from nursery early today with high temp and wheezing. So far inhaler and Calpol are working their magic so crossing fingers for boring uneventful night....

explodingkittens · 31/10/2017 20:15

Appropriately enough, I'm wearing AE today Halloween Grin. Quite tempted by Damn Rebel Witches, great name!

Probably easier to think of Bonfire Night scents, though...MG Fire, Amour Nocturne (for the supposed gunpowder note that I can never detect), MMM By The Fireplace could be toffee apples and fireworks, Iconofly Attaćhe Moi is also very smoky imo.

Payday has arrived and I'm feeling as if I need a little treat. I am poorly after all... Wink

explodingkittens · 31/10/2017 20:16

Of course there's always Secretions Magnifiques for a suitably horrible blood-and-guts theme!

MrsMacNally · 31/10/2017 20:22

That always smells more like a rank cleaning product to me...Confused.

I forgot Evil Max!

Judydreamsofhorses · 31/10/2017 20:41

SOTD was NRFH. I had my students’ graduation today in a boiling hot ballroom, so i’m glad I didn’t go for something heavier.

Does anyone have/rate Byredo Gypsy Water? Despite the fact I have never met it, it’s calling to me. Is it just the name?

BluebellGal · 31/10/2017 20:53

kittens snap! SM (ELdO) was going to be my suggestion for haloween. I’m tempted by rebel witches - great name

SOTD was MrsMc Sample B. A light but distinctive white floral scent. I’m guessing Jasmine but not dirty (indolic) Jasmine. It’s soft and gentle (I sprayed lots) and felt calming. It had a green feel to it but not sharp. It reminds me of ELdO. I’m thinking this ones a niche scent? It is subtle and almost a skin scent. Longevity is very good so I think this one is expensive.

Thanks everyone for the positive vibes. The news is about close friends so although upsetting I’m the one trying to support best I can (a death and very sick child). Now my DD has come down with croup, I’m snowed under at work and praying I don’t get sick too as I won’t be able to cope!

explodingkittens · 31/10/2017 20:56

I know I've sniffed it, judy, but I don't recall the impression it made, which suggests, not much. However tbh I've found a lot of Byredo a bit meh - although must admit I've only ever sniffed at the counter, not actually properly sampled anything. I did like ?La Tulipe iirc. Not very helpful, sorry Grin

Browsing Bloom. They really do have some very niche and interesting- sounding bits and bobs. Tempting, but am worried I'll just end up with a load of unwearables! Has anyone tried anything from Olfactive Studio or Parfumerie Generale?

explodingkittens · 31/10/2017 20:58

Sorry to hear about the friends, bluebell, that sounds very tough. Look after yourself as well, yes? Supporting others can take its toll.

BluebellGal · 31/10/2017 21:02

Ps. After a bit of advice. Sorry to be a downer on the thread, but do you send flowers and card straight away to loved one or wait until the funeral? I was thinking of flowers in a vase as she might have received other flowers. But is it too early (it’s been a few days)?

explodingkittens · 31/10/2017 21:03

Straight away is fine imo.

TeaAndToast85 · 31/10/2017 21:10

Hello perfume expert ladies,

Do any of you know exactly what is going on with Chanel Eau Premiere? I couldn't find it in the shops, so emailed Chanel, and they said it was now only available in their online boutique. Does that mean that they are phasing it out, and in a year or do it will no longer be available? I can't get a straight answer out of them. Sad

BluebellGal · 31/10/2017 21:20

Thanks Kittens that’s what I thought. It’s just that someone else said something different. I feel like I want to send flowers and card now

Someone will be along soon to advise about Chanel - but it’s not my specialist area. I’m not sophisticated enough for Chanel (yet!) TeaandToast

Judydreamsofhorses · 31/10/2017 21:21

bluebell I missed your news, so sorry. When my dad died we were instantly inundated with flowers and i found it quite overwhelming, although obviously I realise people were being very kind. My friend’s mum died a couple of weeks ago and I sent her the world’s best waterproof mascara (MAC False Lash, in case anyone’s interested) and a card instead of flowers. Take care of yourself.

kittens hmm. I think you and I have quite similar tastes? I am in Glasgow next week so may see if I can get to SNK. Does anyone know where (anywhere?) does Byredo samples?

explodingkittens · 31/10/2017 21:32

judy, scentsamples has some Byredo, including Gypsy Water. I think we have similar taste in music too if your username is anything to go by Grin

Not sure about the Chanel, tea, sorry. Someone here will know though!

BluebellGal · 31/10/2017 21:33

Judy that is inspired! Thanks for the feedback about feeling overwhelmed, I thought that might be the case.

Judydreamsofhorses · 31/10/2017 21:49

bluebell I think it’s so personal, so don’t take that as gospel. I was in my early 20s and it was a totally sudden death, so the whole thing was overwhelming.

kittens I have ordered a sample, thanks for that. Ha, yes, one of my faves, although floofy and I share a love of Morrissey. My trigger finger will be on fire later this week.

MrsMacNally · 31/10/2017 21:53

Sorry to hear this Bluebell.

MrsMc B has just four notes listed on Fragrantica, only one of which is floral (and its not classified as a floral).

No jasmine but you may be onto something with calming. Famous nose. Never quite know what constitutes niche....
