Is there such a thing as violet aldehyde?
It has calmed down now and my sinuses have been well and truly cleared. A bit of Mad Madame smell but these roses are heavily contaminated with violet. Almost identical to Yardley rose soap (just been to bathroom to check).
Is the bottle shiny?

BluebellGal · 29/10/2017 17:42

Ooh get us Pest and mrsmc we’re alright at this blind sampling marlarly aren’t we?! Unless we’ve just given each other the easiest samples to guess. Although saying that, I think Bluebell B will be rather difficult to identify.

It’s very fun and highly recommended!

Snuggled up watching strictly on catch up. It’s rather useful for teaching the little one to count as she keeps shouting out the scores!

MrsPestilence · 29/10/2017 17:47

I do prefer my roses to smell of turkish delight. Is there potentially a bit of amber in there? I know, it said three notes only.

MrsMacNally · 29/10/2017 17:51

Aldehydes gets you 4/5.

No, the bottle is not especially glossy.

Two clues - a) the other note is gorse. b) it shares this with one of its less famous stable mates. But it also has a 'sibling' that is famously well-reviewed - by Luca Turin.

MrsMacNally · 29/10/2017 18:06

The gorse, and it's purity, are important.

BluebellGal · 29/10/2017 18:11

I’ve had a look on Fragrantica but I’ve got no idea mrsm!

BluebellGal · 29/10/2017 18:14

I got this error message: “Wow! You searched for a great combination of notes but no one has made a perfume like this yet!)

BluebellGal · 29/10/2017 18:19

Is it a Dior MrsMc?

MrsMacNally · 29/10/2017 18:23

Oh yes they have Smile. No, it's not listed on Fragrantica although it is in the Basenotes directory. It's reasonably obscure (deserves to be better known).

The gorse may help you. It, and the ingredient in it's rather more famous (soliflore) sibling, are local to the perfumery. (I should make clear that this sibling's fame may not extend too far out of hardcore perfumista circles... but LT awarded 5*s and described it as 'perfect').

MrsMacNally · 29/10/2017 18:25

No Bluebell. Much smaller operation and UK-based

BluebellGal · 29/10/2017 18:34

Caldey Island Number One?

GreenPolishToGo · 29/10/2017 18:45

Oooh, I know. I know! Oh, but I'm not playing. Halloween Blush

Pest I meant to post earlier I still have some of the L'Atelier des Bois de Grasse Fleur d'Oranger Baie Rose left so shout if you would like some. If the bottle will co-operate with a Travalo you are most welcome. If not, you are still welcome but you might have to wait a bit.

SOTD is a Perfume Society sample - Miller Harris Fleurs de Sel - herbs and salty air. It's meant to be a chypre but it doesn't seem like one to me. Not that it matters because it is very lovely. Unobtrusive too, so a good one to wear around others.

Green you are playing Grin No 1 sounds good.

MrsMacNally · 29/10/2017 18:53

Glitterball Yay!!!! Glitterball. Congratulations Smile.

Does strike me as a more youthful and less melancholy L'Heure Bleue. It is very pure and gentle - great for convalescing or when nursing a hangover.

Best to order directly from the Abbey.

EDPs from £14.50 for 10ml delivered. But seel also the mysteriously named 'skin perfumes' - which seem to me to be EDTs and are £5.95 for 5ml. Again, think this includes UK delivery.

The famous sibling is their Lavender, described in the A-Z guide as 'the best lavender soliflore on earth'.

MrsMacNally · 29/10/2017 18:57

And it was the fragrant and abundant local gorse and lavender that inspired the monks to take up perfume making in the first place...(think they need to import it these days though to keep pace with demand...).

BluebellGal · 29/10/2017 19:05

Yeay! What an interesting perfume house and lovely perfume- thanks for the introduction Mrsmc

Please do play along Green - the more the merrier!

Kittens sorry to hear you’re having a rubbish time illness wise. If it persists don’t hesitate to go to your GP, you might need help to see it off.

Floofy also sorry to hear you’re still not able to indulge your olfactory passion! But good news about the new job

boldlygoingsomewhere · 29/10/2017 19:07

The Caldey Island fragrances sound intriguing. I like the sound of Brocade and Island Fern. Might order a couple of 10mls next payday. Smile

MrsMacNally · 29/10/2017 19:13

Do report back Boldly. I fancy trying Island Madrigal.

I have Island Gorse which I love (recommended, depending on how you feel about gorse notes). Some similarities with No. 1.

Judydreamsofhorses · 29/10/2017 19:14

SOTD was MMM Fireplace. Weirdly I was wondering about ordering Caldey Island Lavender for Friday’s root canal. Any ideas how quickly they deliver?

MrsPestilence · 29/10/2017 19:19

Without the loud violet rose? I like gorse flowers but I found the opening of this a bit of an assault on the nose. (it did clear my sinuses)

MrsPestilence · 29/10/2017 19:23

DH is now wearing Caldey island No1 and it smells quite different. Sad
