It takes me literally years to use up perfume and the ex bf was always buying it, and his family bought it all the time too.

When I moved out I left loads behind, untouched, which he will hopefully pass on to his new gf (he tried to give me a tacky necklace and earrings he had bought for his ex-w and forgotten to give her, as well as being tacky, and not bought for me, they were for pierced ears which I don't have - he was totally perplexed as to why I was a bit pissed off to be given them! Should have ended it then. I also left about 5 pieces of tacky plastic jewellery he had bought just for me over the years). I threw away a load of half-used perfume too.

I like the one I am currently using but ex's sister gave it to me three Christmasses ago and I swear I use it every work day!

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 03/10/2017 12:20

Nice work everyone and yes The Ordinary is fab.
Managed to finish shower gel (only 2 more in stash!) and face wash that is amazing but discontinued so eeked out last bit. But given that I saw it when looking at 4 year old DD baby book, it is old! Also finished perfume but I have LOTS so not sure even made a dent!

I have advent calendar withdrawal symptoms... am away until tomorrow evening 😢

d270r0 · 03/10/2017 18:52

Help I have an advent calendar crisis! I had decided to definitely get the m&s one. I preferred the look of the asos one but couldn't justify an extra £20 so settled on M&S. But now I just saw on the london diaries list there is going to be a qvc one for only £40! So its only £5 more- which do I go for! How do you decide?

woodhill · 03/10/2017 19:27

The EL breast cancer one sold out quickly- was tempted

BlooBagoo · 04/10/2017 03:20

For someone who still isn't the best at applying eyeliner I have a terrible problem with constantly purchasing them. The good news is I bought one I find easy to put on so not a waste of money this time anyway.

I'm determined to stay away from all the advent calendars. It isn't easy but I don't need them. My monthly subscriptions probably amount to much more anyway.

And I have an almost-empty. But it's something I need to replace as I don't have a back up. It's the Unani illuminate milk cleanser. Came out a Glossybox a short while ago, and even with me being generous with usage it's taken a while to start struggling. It doesn't seem to be easy to find in the UK to just buy the same one again though, any recommendations for something to replace it? I have mostly dry skin, bit of a combination t-zone, although I do have a regular skincare routine which does help with some of my dry skin issues. I need a cleanser which is gentle, can remove make up without needing to splash water over my face, and smells nice but mild. And can't cost a bomb (although apparently my bomb is much higher than other people have it seems LOL).

Cupoteap · 04/10/2017 06:15

I think I'm not going to get a calendar Sad

I've been putting away the last few month mo they boxes and I really do have a problem.

Have just started using some urban decay eyeliners that I've had for a couple of months. Plus bought a new mascara that I've used almost everyday since I bought it which is good ignores the other 27 in the draw

Housewife2010 · 04/10/2017 07:36

I have sold perfume on Ebay. Although used cosmetics are banned, perfume is ok - no problems hygiene wise. I always point out that I keep it in its box away from heat and light.

ememem84 · 04/10/2017 08:57

I’m not doing too well on using up things from my list. But have finished a lemon shower gel.

Since babies arrival I’ve been given a lot of toiletries. Lovely Molton brown mini shower gels, a box of clarins, some lovely lavender and camomile soaps body wash etc.

Am trying to make sure I put my face on every day. Just to feel a bit more like “me” and less like “mum” (sounds odd but I’m afraid of losing my identity and being known as just “mum”).

OutToGetYou · 04/10/2017 11:32

I have an empty - N&F glycolic body fix. I really liked it so will need to rebuy, but not until I have also finished the No7 P&P body stuff (next) which must be 6 years old, and the other N&F one I have which is for neck/decollete.

I can confirm that slathering body lotion across my extensive arse uses it up fairly quickly!

kwick · 04/10/2017 17:14

A QVC one you say d2???? oh God can I justify buying a fourth one??
kwick has a cunning plan... buy 12 advent calendars and have a full year of them!!!!

OP posts:
d270r0 · 04/10/2017 17:47

Wow thats a great idea Kwick! 12 months of advent calendars! But I don't think you'd get through even a fraction of the products- imagine- 365 new products a year.

Strawberryfield12 · 04/10/2017 19:08

Ladies you are a dangerous crowd! I keep telling myself that 2 calendars is an absolute maximum Hmm QVC one looks good....

Have finished bioesence full size snail serum. No idea what's all the hype about snail skincare. Can't tell it has done anything special to my skin and I'm not particularly keen on a snail bit. Got it as a present and happy to see it go and it was on my 13 list! Will start using Caudalie Vinoperfect. Excited!

CantChoose · 04/10/2017 23:04

Your advent calendars do make me chuckle, kwik. I still haven't fully chosen. I sent some stuff back to asos late, if I get credit rather than a refund I will def get the asos one.

Erm, woodhill, as the risk of being an enabler (guilty as charged) the EL box isn't sold out on the Clinique website. And it's free delivery. I'd rather not confess how I learned this...

Despite the above indiscretion, I've been on a bit of a roll. I've finished a ful size perfume I've had since school - colours of love by Guerlain, long since discontinued. Plus a full size black clay mask, I think it was L'Oréal. This was a freebie to review and I'd never have finished it so quickly if it wasn't for this thread. It didn't feel as effective as a high end brand one but had a nice creamy consistency, I'd consider repurchasing but I have another 2 in the stash - the red one and the green one. Also a mini face scrub, can't remember the brand, and a full size champneys foot scrub. Phew!
Next on my target list are a full size s&g heel genius and an elemis sample moisturiser - both cut tubes. And my full size joules body scrub, nearly empty.

suchatiredbunny · 04/10/2017 23:10

Can someone add the link for the qvc calendar please? The one that comes up on the website is for pork scrstchings! Confused
My skin is crap, I'm really spotty and it's generally rubbish. Not oily, not dry, just spotty. My default Avene Cleanser and effaclar duo isn't helping and I'm resisting DS's cream after the allergic reaction I had last time so any suggestions gratefully received! No more empties yet, although I have binned a boujois eyeliner which was really smudgey and lasted five minutes.

mintmagnummm · 05/10/2017 07:15

Bunny what are you using at the moment?

mintmagnummm · 05/10/2017 07:15

If I remember rightly your my old friend coconuts aren't u?? If so I know ur a bad girl and often change products when u know u shouldn't Grin

kwick · 05/10/2017 07:29

Well done ladies!!!

Haha bunny I had the same problem... not that I am looking at getting a 4th calendar
Have you tried the Loreal age perfect cleanser - it contains salyclic acid. Apply on and wash off with a hot cloth. Then for actual spots savlon and/or clearsil pads.

I have an empty (from last years advent):

  • Ojon damage reverse instant restorative hair serum: ok but I still have dry ends which I am going to have chopped off on Saturday.

Strawberryfield12 · 05/10/2017 08:21

Finished the face oil which was on my 13 list. Now am left with two brow products to finish by Halloween. Will I finish them? Will I...

OutToGetYou · 05/10/2017 09:01

I'm confused as to why you are all buying advent calendars (12 would be 300 products, not 365, or 288 if they have 24, which is what they should have but I have noticed they seem to have 25) when you're trying to get rid of stuff?

Surely you just get 25 small things clutter which don't suit your skin type/colouring/frangrance style?
I've looked at a few and (luckily?) cannot see the attraction.

Last year a supplier at work gave us really nice chocolate ones, so I'm hoping for that again this year, one of these: www.chococo.co.uk/shop-by-occasion/chocolate-advent-christmas-gifts

Bunny Try Pixie Glow toner. I now wash first with a mild soap to take off make up then use a cleanser. Nothing foaming, nothing matifying. N&F glycolic pads are good too. Use a glycolic peel once or twice a week and a light serum.
The Ordinary do a serum that is to reduce sebum, I use that around my TOTM and it seems to help.

CantChoose · 05/10/2017 10:48

Because we are lost causes OutToGetYou!

suchatiredbunny · 05/10/2017 12:12

Thanks for the suggestions, and hi Mint old chum! Grin
I've been using Liz Earle or Avene to cleanse and then Olay Total Effects to moisturise. So nothing out of routine, I'm just not sure why I'm so spotty all of a sudden.

Strawberryfield12 · 05/10/2017 16:32

OutToGetYou I have used most of the products I had in last year's calendar. Some bits of makeup and perfume are left, couple of skincare products I am actively using and they should be finished before December. Depending on brand there could be good number of full sized products and I think the sellers are trying to select products for all skin types, classic colors etc. All in all I had good amount of products to try for a much better price than buying them all separately. Since last year I bought beauty calendar for the first time, I did some sort of cost/benefit analysis. The value of the products I loved was way over the price of the calendar, then there were products I didn't mind on top. There are very few which I probably will never use up or will give somebody else to enjoy, but they were definite minority. And most importantly, advent calendar prompted me to join this thread to moan about the amount of skincare I had use it nice products in a collective effort Grin
