Hello!
Still sat here sniffing myself happily 😁

VintagePerfumista · 19/05/2017 15:27

Here I am!

Just been browsing ebay.it for the first time in ages. They seem to have cottoned on a bit. The prices are eye-watering.

MrsCocoa · 19/05/2017 15:42

Thank you for our lovely new thread Green Flowers

MrsCocoa · 19/05/2017 16:06

Needed an uplift from today's SotD so am drenched in Shazam! which has magic powers. Is it the old school patchouli note that gives it a bit of a hippy dippy vibe?

Ollivander84 · 19/05/2017 16:29

I love Shazam! It reminds me of Christmas oddly

OCSockOrphanage · 19/05/2017 16:38

Thank you Green. Parking my bum in a comfy spot. Bring on the scented chat.

GreenPolishToGo · 19/05/2017 17:42

Shazam is gorgeous, and, yes, yet another on the 9ml wish list. Really it would be a lot quicker to list the 4160 Tuesdays I don't want as a FB!

SOTD is Frederic Malle's Lipstick Rose from the Les Senteurs samples - such a pretty gust of violets, face powder and roses. But is it meant to turn into a skin scent so quickly? I've topped it up twice already! And it's not cheap!

Mind you, I think I tend to underspray/ under dab as a rule. Living through the 80s has given me a horror of being the woman who smells as though she's up-ended the bottle over herself, as so many did then. Was it because cigarette smoke was ubiquitous (so, so hard to believe now) and the scents had to be powerhouses to compete?

Speaking of Lipstick Rose and 4160 Tuesdays, look what I found - Sarah Mc's Desert Island Sniffs. I think it's the most interesting of this series I've read and I do like that she hasn't succumbed to the temptation to pick any of her own perfumes.

Top 5 is hard! Most significant to you historically? Those you couldn't bear to be without today? Or something else?

wishiwasacollie · 19/05/2017 18:15

Le Grand Bal by Dior. Beautiful but eyewateringly expensive...I dream

GreenPolishToGo · 19/05/2017 18:42

Eeek, that is pricey, wish

It is very, very hard MrsC. I think the five from your lifetime you would take if you were cast away tomorrow. They could be vintage, discontinued or current, and you could choose them because you love them, or out of nostalgia or sentimental reasons.

My picks are:
Vintage Miss Dior because it conjures up my DM when I was small;
Vintage Fidji because I wore it in my teens and twenties;
Vintage Vent Vert (Cellier formulation) because I've never smelt anything else so bracingly, beautifully, piercingly green;
Atelier Cologne Bergamote Soleil because it is bottled sunshine to me;
4160 Tuesdays What I Did On My Holidays because DD loves it so much it reminds me of her.Smile

I have been pondering this one on and off for a couple of days, and it is subject to change. It's hard to leave out L'Air du Temps and Maison Martin Margiela for a start...

Badders123 · 19/05/2017 18:47

5???

Only 5!!?

Well. Today they would be;
Obsession
Opium
Nightmusk
Sun moon stars
Knowing

But that could change next week!!

I think I would like lipstick rose...but the price!! 😮

ThreeForAPound · 19/05/2017 18:49

Ah didn't spot the new thread! Hello all.

Thanks for the Ebay heads up Vintage

I've received some of my PP dupes! The dupe for Creed Spring Flower is spot on. I think I'm in love (for late Spring/early Summer, anyway wink). Its got a lovely real apple smell and some sort of light white floral. DThe drydown is mostly rosy to me but light. I'm quite appallingly shit at spotting notes, to be honest, but its definitely a winner...

Dupe of JM Verbenas of Provence is spot on, too. I found the perfume original spray too strong with this, but the PP dupe rollerball oil is perfect. Just put it on after my shower and am in heaven grin.

SOTD was me trying for probably the 4th or 5th time to find positives with Narciso Rodriuguez Poudree, which was a gift from a friend. I'm finding it exceptionally hard to love. So strong and chemically and generic when it first goes on, a fleeting moment of powdery goodness, and then disappears completely on me.

My Yardley booty has been dispatched apparently...yes!

ThreeForAPound · 19/05/2017 18:50

emoticon fail Angry

Badders123 · 19/05/2017 18:51

Oh! I really like narcisso poudre
But then I like any powdery scent it seems...

ThreeForAPound · 19/05/2017 18:56

Ooh have bookmarked that Desert Island Sniffs to peruse later.

I am in completely love with 4160 Tuesdays. Tokyo Spring Blossom and Doe in the Snow would almost certainly feature in my Top 5...if I could stop my kid-in-a-sweet-shop nonsense long enough to have one Grin

MsRinky · 19/05/2017 18:57

Thank you for that link to Sarah's desert island sniffs. I had completely forgotten about Deci Dela, I had a bottle of that in my teens and adored it, I kept the empty bottle for years as well, so pretty.

SOTD is Goodbye Piccadilly again, can't get enough of it. Am going to have to shell out for a bottle come payday.

ThreeForAPound · 19/05/2017 18:58

I do like a powdery scent too, Badders...so going to persist with this, as I want to like it and I am extremely fickle with perfume anyway. I could hate something one day and a month later be obsessed with it...

Badders123 · 19/05/2017 19:05

Oh Lordy. I've found a lipstick rose sample on e bay. I'm going to have to aren't I?

ThreeForAPound · 19/05/2017 19:08

You simply must Grin Badders

Just read the Desert island Sniffs. I am feeling chuffed that Sarah wears her Tokyo spring blossom/Tokyo Cafe perfume, as its my favourite of hers.

Badders123 · 19/05/2017 19:16

You're such an enabler 😂

GreenPolishToGo · 19/05/2017 19:32

Yep, Badders just five. I know it is hard-hearted! So which of those are vintage/discontinued/current?

Les Senteurs make up their own samples - might work out cheaper than a Malle sample of Lipstick Rose? It is lovely but it's not lasting very well on me.

Should have said MMM Untitled, tut!

Badders123 · 19/05/2017 19:35

That is green I will look into that.
Sun moon stars is discontinued 😔
And nightmusk 😔
I wore nightmusk on my wedding day

Judydreamsofhorses · 19/05/2017 19:43

Just popping in to say hello, new thread. I've had a shower and am in pjs, hoodie, and Rive Gauche. All the glamour. Badders I love Lipstick Rose - after a load of samples my partner bought me it for my birthday last year. (Yes, he's good, but he had to be emailed the link.)

ThreeForAPound · 19/05/2017 19:52

Re: Rive Gauche...my mum wore it in the 80s and 90s and used to spray liberally and then pile us into her tiny car with windows closed . So I am not yet ready to embrace it again.

Whats Sun Moon Stars like? I keep seeing you lot mention it and am now twitching...(12 days until pay day, ouch).

Badders123 · 19/05/2017 19:53

Oh it's beautiful!! Powdery and floral at he same time
I LOVE it
