Can I have a little moan? My favourite perfumes smell awful on me now Sad.
I had a Hysterectomy and am now on HRT and I think that it is making things smell differently on me.
Shalimar - just vanilla no other notes.
Heritage - smells Blurgh.
Tuscan leather - fruit.
I was out with my friend who wears womanity and I had a spritz - I smelt like a grapefruit.
Is this a thing with HRT?

Badders123 · 24/05/2017 16:25

I'm on hrt and haven't noticed it but I still have my womb and ovaries...

GreenPolishToGo · 24/05/2017 18:15

Poor Hysterectomy how very upsetting for you. I've not heard that about HRT but I suppose it makes sense that anything that alters your hormone levels could affect your sense of smell - bearing in mind how haywire it goes in pregnancy. Perhaps it's time to shop for a new perfume, or two...

VP what a smashing haul. I'd be very interested to know what you think of the Poison extrait, the mind boggles at the thought of something that powerful - Bellatrix on steroids!

Floofy, ahem, you do not have to be on Facebook. If you Google 4160 Tuesdays and Facebook the page pops up even for antediluvian non-Facebook types like me. So if you wanted to browse. Wink

I smell like a gas attack but a very fragrant one. Malle's Une Rose, like Portrait of A Lady, but, sadly, unlike Lipstick Rose, turns out to be a complete powerhouse of a scent on me. A few dabs of my sample have lasted hours and I am enveloped in a billowing cloud of roses. It is really lovely, but POAL is even more gorgeous - I can't believe you think it is "light" VP - proof yet again that we all smell things differently.

I keep making resolutions about "no buys"/"low buys" too. I can't say they're very successful...

Stop enabling me green you're so naughty Grin

Hysterectomy I'm afraid I don't know about HRT etc, but I would look upon this as an opportunity to test and buy lots of new perfume which is very definitely A Good Thing. An opportunity! You are in the right place here anyway - I'm sure more knowledgable posters will have some good recommendations if you say what notes you like etc...

I have had a shower and DH has washed my hair for me and put lovely new clean bedding on (which has cats on!) and I am wearing Sunshine and Pancakes so FloofyHouse is happier and smells fabulous Smile

Hope you all have had some nice sun and a peaceful day.

FloofyCat · 24/05/2017 19:07

Olli how are you by the way if you're still about?

MrsCocoa · 24/05/2017 19:45

Green! What are you doing to us! I was just getting my head around a no-buy spell and you go and mention the half price 4160 weekly thing Shock. I'm going to end up having to down-size at this rate... and then there wouldn't be enough space for all the perfume.

And sorry to lower the tone, but having seen past action in the trying to conceive threads, I always get POAL and POAS momentarily confused Grin

MrsCocoa · 24/05/2017 20:03

HH - I had a quick google and stumbled across several studies suggesting evidence of a link between reproductive hormones and sense of smell. Think Floofy's advice to embrace the opportunity sounds about right Grin

HysterectomyHysteria · 24/05/2017 20:06

😀. I am not sure what notes I like I don't understand what people mean when they say something is 'green' or 'gourmand' or whatever but I know that I don't really like anything 'citrusy' or 'fresh'. I don't really like Patchouli either.
I do like earthy, smoky, leather.
Any help with new scents would be great.
Oh and I can't afford expensive scents Grin

HysterectomyHysteria · 24/05/2017 20:07

Oh that's interesting @MrsCocoa.

MrsCocoa · 24/05/2017 20:45

HH - might be tempted to go to ebay for a vintage bottle of Cabochard (a couple of 50ml bottles of EDT on there now for £20 or less, delivered).

Not sure if you've had a look at Fragrantica? It's a good resource. You can search by note (try leather or smoke) and then bring up a list of perfumes featuring these notes. You can then read the reviews of ones that look interesting. It' a good way of getting to a short list.

WorshipTheGourd · 24/05/2017 20:48

Vintage Miss Dior
Vintage Fidji
Chanel no 19
Chanel no 5
Eau Sauvage (1st proper boyfriend wore it)

And I really like (whispers) Next's 'Milan' scent. Discontinued.

Can anyone recommend a smell-a-like?

Judydreamsofhorses · 24/05/2017 21:46

SOTD was EL Bronze Goddess. As always, I like the concept of it and what it represents more than the actual smell of it. Might dig out WIDOMH tomorrow.

Judydreamsofhorses · 24/05/2017 21:52

Just popped on some WIDOMH - it's quite "briny", isn't it? (And I say that as a massive lover of Sel Marin.)

GreenPolishToGo · 24/05/2017 22:04

Sorry MrsC if it is any comfort I will be a beautifully scented pauper too.Wink And you have now ensured that Malle's POAL is going to be forever Pee On A Lady in my mind!

Hysterectomy I don't know those notes (or indeed any notes) anywhere near as well as MrsC, but L'Artisan Parfumeur's Tea for Two smells of smoky Lapsang Souchong and ginger spices, and 4160 Tuesdays' Goodbye Piccadilly smells of leather and violets.

We have two of the same Desert Island Top Five, Worship.Smile And Chanel 19 was one of the ones that only just missed my list. We have a slight difference of opinion on Number 5 but maybe I ought to sniff it again sometime - it is many, many years since my mother and I dismissed it as smelling like an incontinent cat on us!

I've never smelt Next Milan but one blogger thinks it is very like DKNY Be Delicious. And there's a half full bottle of Milan on Ebay now at 99p with no bids yet.

Some of the next fragrances are lovely. I like cashmere
Back from school fundraiser and feeling very hot and bothered so pp nivea dupe for me tonight

Auldspinster · 25/05/2017 00:10

Sotd was Estee Lauder Youth Dew Amber Nude which reminds me of Dr Pepper in a good way.

Just spritzed Sonia Rykiel Le Parfum which is initially an aldehyde but turns chypre in the dry down. Very much in the vein of Rochas Femme and Mitsouko.

Badders123 · 25/05/2017 06:59

Busy busy day for me today - valentino poudre because it's so hot
Have a lovely fragrant day everyone

MrsCocoa · 25/05/2017 08:18

I had great hopes for YD Amber Nude - a classic with a TF facelift. Got my hands on a bottle but discovered it's the old lady aspects of YD I must like best.

MrsCocoa · 25/05/2017 08:35

SotD Ninfeo Mio - L'Artisan do the best summer scents! A first cousin of Eau de Sud - a radiant citrus/woody/aromatic with green fig and surprising staying power.

OCSockOrphanage · 25/05/2017 09:04

Worship and other fans of No19 may like Quartz by Molyneux, which is probably not easy to find but a bargain. Some time ago shan't admit how many years I had both one summer and liked them equally, but they were quite similar.

VintagePerfumista · 25/05/2017 09:12

Bel Respiro today. First thing I grabbed that I already knew.

Meh.

It's already gone to a faint skin scent. Pretty enough, but it's another Emperor's New Clothes for me.

I am sooooo tired. VintageCat is going through a phase. Might go and ask over on the litter tray what to do with him.

OCSockOrphanage · 25/05/2017 09:13

Good call, MrsC. In this fab weather, I want bergamot and citrus. I can choose between
Escale a Paraty
Ninfeo Mio
Eau Sauvage
St Clements
Petitgrain and CitrusCitrus!

Most don't last as well as the beloved (empty) Lux sample (Mona di Orio). I checked but there was no more, and I fear the range has died with her. Maybe on EBay.de... may have to try that route.

WorshipTheGourd · 25/05/2017 09:53

GreenPolish thank you! I just bid on it!

The reason I HAVE to find a replacement smell-a-like for the Next Milan is quite romantic / sad (depending on your viewpoint...)
I have recently re-connected with the man I loved 30 years ago. Life has been less than kind and I physically do NOT resemble the sylph-like 20 year old he remembered so it took a great deal of courage to meet up at all. To my utter astonishment, he still wants me!
I chucked some Milan on before I left as it was the only perfume I had (I used to be draped in Chanel...). I am now near the end of the bottle and he has asked if he can have the dregs as it reminds him of me so forcibly and he misses me so much (we are 350 miles apart). It is, as it was 30 years ago, doomed (for diff reasons) but I adore him so am along for the ride as long as it lasts.
So, I have re-established a scent connection with a discontinued scent (facepalm!).
I guess I need to try the DKNY one... Grin

ThreeForAPound · 25/05/2017 11:15

Sisley Izia is a summer keeper, I have decided. Overpowering lemon on first spray, but it develops quite quickly into the smell of those really 'rosy', lovely pink roses

Judydreamsofhorses · 25/05/2017 11:30

SOTD is MMM Untitled. Beautiful day here, but apparently going to be rubbish all weekend.
