Powdery and floral, you say?

Oh GOD....

Where can I find it? Grin

VintagePerfumista · 19/05/2017 19:57

Yes, of course you are Badders!

Are we all on ebay at the moment? I have just been perusing the old Yardleys (Sea Jade and Sea Spray, which I am about to google to see if they are the same thing, and if they are the same as our beloved Jade) Have also sent a cheeky offer to someone selling a bottle of Boots Lemon grass from the 70s ...they have had it on ebay (and on my watch list for over a year at £50 Shock) Obviously nobody (not even me) is going to pay that, but they've now added a make an offer and I've offered them £20. They won't accept of course, but may get it for less than the £30 I'd be prepared to pay!

There is a miniature set of Nina Ricci's on ebay.de still at opening price of about 20 euro- don't know if Deci Dela is in there though.

Going to look at the Desert Islands now...mine of all time (and given my FB memories from earlier) would be:
Anais Anais,
Chanel 19
Ysatis
Rive Gauche
Dune

But of today, they would be:
Anais Anais
Chanel 19
Eau du Sud/Jade
Diorella
Paris

Badders123 · 19/05/2017 20:00

E bay. It's no longer made 😣
It's so worth £20 if you can get it for that.
Well. I've already done a les senteurs order 😮 must hide my visa card!!!!

Badders123 · 19/05/2017 20:04

I've ordered lipstick rose and portrait of a lady. I'm very excited 😊

ThreeForAPound · 19/05/2017 20:08

My honest Desert island Sniffs wouldn't be glamourous like Sarah's

1/2 Poison/Coco Chanel - Teens. Ever so grown up obviously!). Had a boyfriend with dodgy gangster parents who generously furnished me with both on a regular basis.

3 D&G Feminine - reminds me of my 5 yr relationship before DH, end of uni, beginning of working life, glamorous London night life and when I could afford D&G clots to match the scent

4 Stella - my safe, working-mum, nice rosy fragrance. Signature forEVER...until I discovered my passion for perfume and that I actually like all kinds of smells, not just safe and rosy and generic (still love it though).

5 Tokyo Spring Blossom 4160 Tuesdays - but actually, it could be many of Sarah's fragrances. Signals the start of my perfume passion

ThreeForAPound · 19/05/2017 20:09

D&G clothes

SheStoodInTheStorm · 19/05/2017 20:14

Hello!
Just popping in to say hello. I had some great advice last time I popped on a thread, after some of my favourites were discontinued (Stella In Two Peony & Ghost Cherish)
It was suggested I might like SJP Lovely, which I do and have found it at a great price but the scent just does not last.

So I'm wondering if anyone could suggest any similar scents to any of the above that I might like that actually last?

Thanks all 😊

Badders123 · 19/05/2017 20:17

I wore Stella too 😁
If you like SJP lovely then perhaps try some of the marc jacobs? Like daisy?
Hmmmm....i will have a think...

Badders123 · 19/05/2017 20:20

Have you tried Stella?
Or narcisso Rodriguez for her?
Love Chloe?

ThreeForAPound · 19/05/2017 20:39

I LOVED Stella In Two, too SheStood

Steer clear of the other Stella scents though... LILY and Pop nothing close...

I don't like Daisy much, but its a good shout from Badders for a similar profile of fragrance...and loads of flankers if you like it...

Badders123 · 19/05/2017 20:49

Im Not a floral fan tbh but my sister used SJP lovely and she has all the marc Jacobs daisy flankers.
She also uses Jimmy Choo Which is very floral

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 19/05/2017 20:51

Storm-what about layering? You can get some decent gift sets with shower gel and body lotion?
Speaking of on the yardley site there is a gift set for a tenner! Twitch twitch.
I can't think of all time favourites-most iconic?
Tweed-it was mums posh scent.
Youth dew-a family friend's lovely dd wore it and let me nick a squirt when we visited.
Fidgi-the first scent I bought. I spent 1977 to 79 drenched in it.
Obsession. The 80s, need I say more.
Chanel for gentlemen. I bought it for dh on honeymoon and it takes me straight to Summer's evenings in Paris.

GreenPolishToGo · 19/05/2017 21:02

I really must get round to trying Lovely sometime; finding SJP's character tremendously irritating in Sex and the City is not a valid reason to steer clear of it!

VP I have a 70s (I think) Yardley Sea Jade and it is nothing like Yardley Jade. It's much harsher and oddly rubbery under the greenness. It's interesting rather than beautiful.

I got Portrait of a Lady in my Les Senteurs samples too. Smile

Badders123 · 19/05/2017 21:04

I can think of so many beautiful scents and they remind me of loved ones and take me straight back to certain times of my life....
My mum...l'aimant, opium, obsession
My aunt...estee, white linen, safari
My dad...brut, old spice, paco rabanne
My cousin...paris
My friend....coco
My sister....kenzo, Lou Lou
How strange that a sniff can take you back decades
When young I wore a lot of avon and yardley - some great perfumes

VintagePerfumista · 20/05/2017 06:25

Green- thanks for the Sea Jade info...might still bid, it's a wonderfully kitsch gift set with bath cubes!!!!
I love the Candy Boy's desert island sniffs, I'd read that one before I realise now, and was quite surprised at her descriptions of things. I don't find Diorella or Poison remotely fruity. I suppose what I see as "skank" in the Diorella is what she sees as peach? I do now have a hankering for the thingummy cedrat one.
Barbara Herman has done a DIS for Candy Boy as well.

VintagePerfumista · 20/05/2017 07:01

TF Neroli Portofino on one hand - meh. I mean, it's nice. It's summery. It's citrussy. It's not worth the price absolutely. Other hand Yves Rocher Essences de Neroli. Mahoosive bottle for less than £20 when I bought it. Not very strong or long lasting either, but hard to tell the difference apart from the £££££s.

I went down this wormhole last night. cleopatrasboudoir.blogspot.it/p/do-you-have-vintage-perfume-and-need.html Very nice it was too!

ThreeForAPound · 20/05/2017 10:58

Just received my Jade. Ooh, its nice. I can't believe I have missed this.
I can see this being my week day work fragrance.

Badders123 · 20/05/2017 11:38

I'm so with you on the meh for Tom ford.
Forgot to say three...if you like floral powdery give diamonds and rubies by Elizabeth Taylor a go...VERY like sun moon stars

Ollivander84 · 20/05/2017 14:14

My perfume parlour Dove arrived today. I got the spray and wow, it's strong! Like it so far, I've just got one spray on my wrist

ThreeForAPound · 20/05/2017 15:00

I've got the roll-on Dove Ollivander - super strong but a couple of dabs on a hot, sticky day makes you feel all nice and fresh. I like the Nivea one better, though. I need to get the spray version of that. Very office friendly.

ThreeForAPound · 20/05/2017 15:01

I haven't tried a single TF perfume yet. I'm slightly put off by the packaging, which is very unlike me.

ThreeForAPound · 20/05/2017 15:02

Thanks Badders - just eyeing up Diamonds and Rubies online at the moment. Bargainous, too! Must wait until pay day, though...

GreenPolishToGo · 20/05/2017 15:16

Yardley Jade for my SOTD too. Subtle enough, I thought, not to offend the scent hating ILs, and one ought not to upset octogenarians on their birthday. How very lovely it is and how much it deserves to be better known.

That is a very, very helpful website VP. I'm always trying to remember when barcodes came in for dating purposes so I'm definitely bookmarking it.

I don't think I smell things the same way as Sarah Mc either. I can smell an over-ripe fruit note in Diorella but mine is modern. In Poison I think I can smell something that hints at poisonous fruit but that could just be suggestion from the fabulous wicked stepmother bottle.

I have the fag end of a bottle of Deci Dela and it is very fruity and very powdery. I like it but I can see it wouldn't appeal to many people now. And I have a gorgeous miniature bee bottle of Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat which is a beautiful, refreshing citrus but so fleeting. It's the sort of thing you'd like to keep in the fridge and spritz with abandon in really hot weather. Really it's a very upmarket 4711.

I'm loving reading everyone's top fives and making mental notes of the ones I haven't come across like Nightmusk and Feminine. And Tweed - well, I know I must have come across it, it was in every chemist's at Christmas in the 70s - but I can't remember what it smelled like.

I managed to get out of MIL that in the days before she met perfume-hating FIL she wore Elizabeth Arden Blue Grass so she will be getting a vintage miniature that she can open and sniff for the memories on her birthday.

If you like Jade I can also recommend the first Liz Earle perfume, n1. The others are utter pink-smelling mingers but n1 is crisp, citrussy and green.

The TF citrussy ones are total Emperor's New Clothes IMO. They're lovely. They smell like they cost a fiver. I like Tuscan Leather well enough, and the tobacco one, and of course Black Orchid, but the lot of them are over priced.

JanetStWalker · 20/05/2017 18:30

This thread name is fantastic!
