Awful news, Floofy. One of my students was there and messaged me earlier to ask for an extension on a deadline as she's 'a bit shaken'. I almost cried with relief to read her message.

SOTD here is Heeley Sel Marin, worn with dungarees and a pussy-bow blouse.

Calminaqualm · 23/05/2017 16:38

Floofy, my very best wishes to you and your loved ones in Manchester. What a worrying time. And how very shocking to target an event which was bound to be attended by lots of youngsters.

Swimming, too late for your first order I know, but if you decide to buy again from Perfume Parlour, do try their Blackberry Bayz, a dupe of Jo Malone's Blackberry and Bay. I have no idea what the original smells like but the dupe lasts 2 or 3 hours and is completely gorgeous!

Swimminguphill · 23/05/2017 16:39

Floofy I retreat onto S&B on days like this. It's one of my coping mechanisms when reality bites. Hope your Allure is doing its job. Can I admit to never having heard of Ariana Grande before today though? Feel very old...

Swimminguphill · 23/05/2017 16:41

Caminaqualm well all the reviews say the PP oils last much better than the JM colognes and at £5 a pop what's not to like? I missed out on some Miller Harris Seasalt in TK Maxx so this is making up for it. I saw the blackberry and bay one but wasn't sure if it would be too sweet fruity for me - thanks for the heads up!

GreenPolishToGo · 23/05/2017 16:46

Ah Floofy I am so very sorry. Such cruelty is, as you say, beyond comprehension. Love to your DCs. I hope they had a gentle day.

I may have just bought some rive gauche on e bay....
I asked ds1 who is off school poorly if he liked POAL and if it reminded him of anything...
He sort of scrunched his face up and said he liked it and that it reminded him of Whitby!!!
😮😁

ThreeForAPound · 23/05/2017 17:26

Awful happenings. Thinking of all Mancunians, Floofy [flowers0.

I remember 7/7 in London, and not being able to get hold of my sister who uses the bus route that was blown up. Terrifying couple of hours.

Those poor parents and families of those who have been lost Sad.

I also console myself with the small, quiet, lovely things (like a big cuddle from my DD...and of course, perfume and S&B). These things make you grateful for the simple pleasures.

Badders123 · 23/05/2017 17:27

I want to remind people of sunlit meadows and classy boulevards - not a fishing port!!!
😂😔

Badders123 · 23/05/2017 17:28

Amen to simple pleasures!

GreenPolishToGo · 23/05/2017 17:52

I can lend you Beaufort London's Fathom V for an authentic fishing port type smell, Badders. Though judging by my DH's reaction it is not at all alluring!

Or perhaps your DS1 meant Malle's POAL is an overblown Gothic type of rose - in which case he's being very perceptive and has a bright future as a scent critic.

My DD thinks 4160 Tuesdays What I Did On My Holidays smells like Westward Ho! and she loves it. So not all seaside smells are bad.

I did wonder if he meant the many patchouli goth smelling shops!
Hope so!

MrsCocoa · 23/05/2017 20:24

Love and peace to all Flowers.

The postwoman bought my bargainous bottle of The Great Randello (thanks for the tip off Green) so am being soothed by its sweet and cosy tobacco/gourmand fumes.

FloofyCat · 23/05/2017 20:26

Thank you for all Flowers I don't want to be all woe is me as it seems a bit self centred when you know that families have lost loved ones and also YY that this thread is all about celebrating the simple pleasures in life, and happiness.

So on that note I am retiring to bed (have been awake since 2.30 this morning!) wearing L'Aimant - usually my choice of "bed" perfume in Summer anyway but possibly one of the most comforting scents ever made. Second only to Anais Anais.

I don't think I could wear POAL as I really don't need much to tip me into hippy territory...I think I actually am already there Grin

Badders123 · 23/05/2017 20:35

Love l'aimant
Fab scent

GreenPolishToGo · 23/05/2017 23:39

Glad you snagged The Great Randello MrsC. I gambled that I would like it - not that much of a risk with 4160 Tuesdays - and ended up getting a small one too. I think it's lovely and you are absolutely spot on about the little curl of cigar smoke in the top notes.

Fellow 4160 fans have you seen the new half price scent of the week offer on the Facebook page? This week's is Mother Nature's Naughty Daughters (which is gorgeous) and the offer is open until 4pm on Friday when they'll swap to another perfume. I shall be in rags at this rate!

Hope you get a good night's rest Floofy. L'Aimant is an excellent snuggle down choice.

SOTD Philosophy Pure Grace Summer SAurf.

I have a few of the Grace flankers and they are my non-perfume perfumes, for days when I'm grumpy, tired and don't feel like a strong scent.

I'm going to the pub after work today, though, and I've brought my Sisley Izia in with me to wear this evening. I tried it last night before bed and its VERY lemony. Don't know if I love it yet...

ThreeForAPound · 24/05/2017 11:19

Summer Surf duh...its a coconutty version of Pure Grace, really

ThreeForAPound · 24/05/2017 11:20

I am NOT looking at that 416- FB page, Green Grin

ThreeForAPound · 24/05/2017 11:22

4160! grrrr

Badders123 · 24/05/2017 11:23

I'm not allowed to buy any more perfume for at least a month!
But £7 for 30ml of rove gauche!?
I'd have been MAD not to buy it 😇
I'm going to a pamper evening this evening (not really my thing but raising funds for school) so I'm debating what to wear....valentino I think...

ThreeForAPound · 24/05/2017 12:02

I'm allowing myself to buy a couple of samples on payday next week...but no more perfume after that until September, when I will start scouting around for a new autumn perfume...thats my story and I'm sticking to it

Badders123 · 24/05/2017 12:05

😂

VintagePerfumista · 24/05/2017 15:23

Hello lovelies. Flowers

Also retreating into S&B for a few days as I loathe the Top Trump mentality over on the other sections of MN at times like this. Urgh. I downloaded the wonderful Stuart Maconie's wonderful Pies and Prejudice as I couldn't find my paperback copy and remembered there being a brilliant paragraph about Manchester that I wanted to put on my FB.

Well, my ebay bargains came, and they are truly bargainous! for 18 euro I got a pristine 10ml of Dioressence- much better nick than the 10ml I have about 4ml left of, which has lost its top notes. This one has definitely been locked in a drawer for years and forgotten- the box is perfect too. Then with it, in the insertion it just said "sample of Poison" (seller obviously whacked them on together as both Dior) What I got was 5ml extrait de parfum, also pristine in pristine box! I had seen one of those over the weekend when I was comparing Poison to Loulou and sent the link to my friend, for that one alone the seller wanted 25 euro as starting price.

So I have been in Dioressence since yesterday.

All this POAL talk makes me want to give her another go, but I was underwhelmed first time aroundas I just got light rose. Mind you, rose to me is big blowsy in your face Paris, so anything else always has a bit of an "is that it?" effect on me.

JM perfumes are all a bit pathetic to me. I like them but they just are too one dimensional. They remind me of Yankee candles Grin which I have a house full of, and always one burning, but I'd never pay JM prices for a YC.

Badders123 · 24/05/2017 15:45

Hello vintage.
I can't wait for my two newest bottles to arrive!

FloofyCat · 24/05/2017 15:53

I agree about retreating into S & B vintage (although my choice of retreat is usually The Litter Tray Smile). Hoorah for lovely bargainous Ebay arrivals! I totally agree re the Jo Malone/Yankee candles similarities, it surprises me that so many people pay so much for JM and YC, when they are so many alternatives which are better quality (I'm a fan of St Eval and Shearer candles, always toyed with the idea of making my own but am too lazy haven't yet!)

I'm very grateful I don't use Facebook, not just as I want to escape RL right now but also so I'm not tempted by perfume offers as I wouldn't be able to resist!

Samples are lethal, they are so enticing as they are only "a couple of pounds" - like bloody tealights at Ikea you end up spending a fortune anyway, then you find something you love and have to have a FB. I've changed my mind, whatever I thought was a gateway perfume before (I can't even remember what I said!) now I think samples in general are just the gateway drugs Wink
