Designer handbag thread. Warning; Not for the faint hearted

Spice22 · 12/04/2017 11:24

This is has been inspired by the 'How to look expensive thread' and I've seen a couple other specific threads and thought 'why not?'. This can be a place to share our wish lists or ask about prices if someone doesn't have a certain store near them etc. Or just be handbag porn !

I know handbags always cause controversy but I think we can all agree to live and let others live. This is a DESIGNER HANDBAG thread - please do not read further if it offends you.

I'll start. I am LOVING the Dior Diorama and have decided ,if all goes according to plan, to treat myself before the year endsSmile.
Also loving the Louis Vuitton Palm Springs mini. Does anyone have either?

Anyone up for the thread ??

I'm not into bags at all but am really enjoying this thread! I have a question though - do you treat the bags as something special or as a normal bag? My (primark!) handbag gets flung around all over the place and is full of toot. Had to bin my last one as an opal fruit escaped from its wrapper...Do you have a cheapo bag for day to day use?

TheGrumpySquirrel · 28/04/2017 06:37

Place marking to RTFT later. I have the céline belt bag & I love it

CardiCorgi · 28/04/2017 07:08

Would Vestige Collective be worth a look? I've been browsing there and it looks as though they authenticate the goods, so both buyer and seller are in a better position than eBay.

SillyMoomin · 28/04/2017 07:22

For the op who was talking about Gucci earlier, there's a lovely Dionysis on Labels Most Wanted

Gucci bag

SillyMoomin · 28/04/2017 07:22

Pp sorry not op!

CardiCorgi · 28/04/2017 07:50

Oops that was a reply to FlyWaxSleep I didn't see that the thread had moved on.

Well the Kelly bag of my dreams will be remaining a fantasy, but I like looking at the photos of what other people have. Is it true that you have to jump through all sorts of hoops to get a bag from Hermès?

LazySusan11 · 28/04/2017 07:54

Out of all your bags which one do you keep coming back to?

I use mostly my LV neverfull or my speedy B empreinte, I love the look of the Antigona in oxblood though my absolute lust after bag is the Birkin in the orange.

When I look at my collection most of which I don't use I could've not bought any of them and saved for a Birkin instead, I kick myself sometimes!

Merriboo · 30/04/2017 11:29

Morning, could I ask what my fellow bag lovers use for work?
I'm mulling over options and have a shortlist of Bayswater or prada tote at the mo (slightly different price points) but open to suggestions.
I'm using a Antigona, lkb tote or somerset temperley tote at the mo.

FranKubelik · 30/04/2017 13:09

I'm looking for a hobo bag at the moment. Can't decide between Coach and Aspinal - similar prices. I know Coach quality is good - have a bag from there which has lasted 15 years. Anyone with experience of Aspinal bags?

April241 · 30/04/2017 13:12

I REALLY want a red Gucci soho disco bag but the price is just too much right now. I had a LV neverfull MM which I barely used so sold that last month and I have a Mulberry mini lily which I absolutely adore and actually use a lot more than I thought I would.

I picked up a red Fossil piper toaster bag in the outlet store for £61 instead of £119 yesterday so I'll use that whilst I lust over the Gucci soho!

LadyOfTheCanyon · 30/04/2017 18:27

Merriboo I use an oversized Mulberry Alexa a lot for work as I can pack a lot in it. I also have a crossbody Coach turnlock Hobo which does on days when I can take less crap with me.
My absolute favourite day to day bag though is my Liberty leather Marlborough tote. She's such a workhorse and so tough- I've had her almost a year and used her maybe every other day.
I have treated her a few times with leather cream and protective spray and that helps a lot.

SpeckledyHen · 30/04/2017 19:04

Sorry Spice just catching up . Thank you - yes only Mullberry , and all but 2 are pre-loved . I love a bargain :)

SpeckledyHen · 30/04/2017 19:09

Thank you Fly . That's a lovely selection you have there ... as you say .. So far !

Louise at Labels Most Wanted is my recommendation for both buying and selling . She has many many years of experience and knowledge of Mulberry especially , but many other brands too .

WingsClipped · 30/04/2017 22:12

My latest is a Chanel large tote like this but in burgundy:
www.chanel.com/en_GB/fashion/products/handbags/g/s.large-tote-sheepskin-lacquered.17P.A93087Y255460B321.sto.new.html
I wear my bags and don't like to baby them too much but the leather on the Chanel is too soft so I do look after it a bit more than I do with my other bags.

herethereandeverywhere · 01/05/2017 09:00

Hello ladies. I love a good handbag! I have a Mulberry Alexa in tan, another black Mulberry (I think Kensington or Knightsbridge) from back in the day when they were all really sturdy saddle leather, a Chloe Paraty in grey and a few other secondary brands: a See by Chloe in apricot leather(!), a Marc by Marc Jacobs Too hot to Handle Hobo in bottle green (great bag for the money that one), a black Paul & Joe Sister satchel type (bit like Alexa) I use for work laptop and an ageing Gucci evening bag - timeless and I'll take it to my grave.

I'm in the market for a new bag - not bright or black - I suit earthy tones so anything beige/taupe/sand/tan/brown/olive would be considered. Style-wise I don't suit structured so LV, Chanel, the latest Gucci (and anything like a birkin or a Maggie Thatcher) is out. Anything a little boho or Zadig & Voltaie/AllSaints kinda edgy (I want a more upscale bag though).

I still lust after a Chloe Marcie which I went to buy the day I got my Paraty 2.5 years ago but I keep thinking that ship has sailed and I'd be better off waiting for the next big thing. I'd consider pre-loved for the right design though (some older Gucci, Balenciaga and Chloe might fit the bill).

Advice oh wise ones!

gunsandbanjos · 01/05/2017 10:39

I've found my people! Love a mulberry 😊
I second labels most wanted as a fantastic source of second hand bags, Louise is an absolute gem.

gunsandbanjos · 01/05/2017 10:42

My current collection, all mulberry:
Oak Bayswater
Tooled Bayswater
Oak Bryn
Lavender Rosemary
Oak Daria hobo
Pheasant green Daria satchel
Eggplant east west mitzy
Valentines Alexa
Emerald Roxanne

Sure I've forgotten something...

gunsandbanjos · 01/05/2017 10:42

Oh yes, red medium Mabel

Spice22 · 03/05/2017 15:16

Merriboo I don't own either but the Prada Double Zip Tote is lovely - and it has quite a few sections which I'm sure would be useful for work. Or YSL Sac De Jour - it's almost double the price of the Prada though.

Herethere 😂 I think you've ruled everything out. Only unstructured bags I can think of at the top of my head are ; Balenciaga City (reasonable price aswell) and the BV bags (I'm not a fan but they may be your style?)

herethereandeverywhere · 04/05/2017 18:52

Ha ha Spice I know, I'm completely off trend! All the 'now' style bags are gorgeous, don't get me wrong, and look great with my work outfit or something smart-going-out but the rest of the time it would look like I'm carrying someone else bag! I'm off to check out the Balenciaga City...

Do we agree that Chloe Marcie has had its day, yes? No point buying new I don't think.

Baconbinge · 07/05/2017 12:49

So I posted early on in this thread about how my lust after bag was the Celine mini belt bag. I don't own any designer bags and this one has always been the one I have dreamt of owning.

It was my birthday yesterday, and as a complete and utter surprise my DP gifted me with THE bag Grin. I still can't believe he bought me it, and I still can't stop staring at her!!

Designer handbag thread. Warning; Not for the faint hearted
Merriboo · 07/05/2017 13:10

Baconbinge she is lovely!! Congrats 👏😁
Enjoy wearing her.

Spice love the sac du hour, though it's a bit pricier so not an immediate purchase, think the prada may be one to look at, thanks

IJustLostTheGame · 07/05/2017 13:52

This thread is complete porn. I'm hooked.

My prized possession is my 2:55. I get a thrill every time I think on it.

I would like a nice kelly (classic kelly like the queen handbag shape) or bowling bag shape. Not too showy but very elegant.
But not a launer, they are a bit old lady.
Maybe a vintage bag.

If money were no object I'd like a straeder lite bag. One was on the antiques roadshow last week and I've been dreaming of it since. The leather version is perfection.

TheGrumpySquirrel · 07/05/2017 14:36

Bacon I have that exact one she's my absolute fave!
