No Spend on S&B during June - Anyone In?

Valsoldknickers · 30/05/2015 11:41

Is anyone up for not spending money on unnecessary S&B items for the month of June?

My finances are not in good order Sad. I did a 'no spend' couple of months with other MNetters (online and lurking) last year. It was bliss to get a credit card bill afterwards with an almost zero balance. I felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders (albeit temporarily)!

I have enough of everything - hair dye, moisturiser, clothes (if I shifted a few pounds), etc. Any other spending would just be on frivolous crap if I were to continue as I have been doing!

Roll on 1st June, I am tightening the purse strings and hiding my credit card! Come and join the fun ConfusedGrin

I'm doing well today. Haven't been out though!

I had a bit of a think about what I bought yesterday. And why. I'm an emotional eater and was having a frustrating time with sorting my phone but I was determined not to give in and have cake or something. So I shopped. It's another way for me to 'deal' with emotions. I either eat or shop. I actually have an appointment next week with a counsellor for depression/low mood.

Lauren - I'm sorry for your loss. That seems so unfair after waiting so long. I have been down the IVF route - we were lucky first time and DS is now almost 13. Not so lucky second time unfortunately.

Tizwailor - sorry for your DS. Hope the bullying gets sorted.

iwantgin · 03/06/2015 15:25

Doing well here.

Mainly because I haven't been anywhere near a shop.

Have also started unsubscribing to a lot of emails from retailers. Have never made a purchase from Boden, but seem to be on their mailing list. Ditto La Redoute. If I don't get the emails then won't be tempted.

AmethystMoon · 03/06/2015 16:01

Just an eyebrow thread today. I deem this essential for the sake of those that have to look at me!
Did get 50% off though which meant it cost just £2.50. To think I used to pay £10 a few years ago for that.

RavioliOnToast · 03/06/2015 16:20

my brows are desperate Amethyst I'm going to do my own though. wish me luck!

ooh I may also get a jar and add £5 to it (what a thread would cost) and add whatever amount I would have spent on products. eg, I need mascara too, I have others I'll use for now so will put that £20- I think it's that much, into a jar also and cope with another for now Grin

Gingefringe · 03/06/2015 16:40

Count me in. When I feel tempted to go onto some clothes websites I'm going to check this thread first. I've been going on a crazy spending spree lately and seriously need to get a grip!

Greenstone · 03/06/2015 16:56

I have to do my own brows too. Hated chore!

FrugalFashionista · 03/06/2015 17:13

Still onboard. We are moving this summer, buying an apartment and having some furniture reupholstered, so want to focus on those big things and cut out the extras for a while.

Shopping is always a slippery slope for me. I feel this is a bit like a diet. If I focus on what I am missing, new cravings pop up constantly. If I focus on something else, I don't feel I am missing out. Have started reading a novel that I really enjoy - reading is the safest form of escapism for me.

Lauren you are going through a lot right now Flowers

Good luck with your brows Ravioli, I would wreck mine :/

Lambzig · 03/06/2015 19:49

Lauren, I am an ivf veteran too and if it helps it did finally work for us 10 years after first ttc and multiple ivf attempts. So it can all fall into place finally. Crossing everything for you.

Still managed not to buy anything despite meeting my sister for lunch who wanted to go shopping in Canary Wharf for two hours. I bought nothing despite the temptations.

HalleLouja · 03/06/2015 19:51

I am joining today. Bought some leggings today - which I do need. They were from Sainsburys but now I am ok for the month. Also bought a belt.

Lauren83 · 03/06/2015 20:56

Lambzig thankyou Smile so glad you had success eventually it gives me hope!
Thanks for the kind messages everyone. Been off today went to I ikea but didn't buy anything, used my family card for a free coffee and all meals today were already food in the fridge/freezer, I did dye my hair but it was a £5 box dye I already had in

So today's report - I returned a pair of shoes and a necklace to Top Shop totalling £76. I also sold numerous unworn items on Facebook. This is becoming almost addictive!

Twinklestar2 · 04/06/2015 09:45

My son was born via IVF too, Lauren Smile

Valsoldknickers · 04/06/2015 10:23

Frivilous Crap Klaxon!

I need would like a purple nail polish. I already have a lilac shade and dark purple witchy shade. Of course, I would love a nice mid spectrum shade! A marketeer's wet dream I am.

All emotional impulse buying to fulfill what gap? I am not going to do it of course.

(Also doing dry June so giving myself more than one challenge this month! Grin)

Avoided the Runing Kit in the Aisle of Treasure in Lidl this afternoon.

to be fair, there wasn't much left so it wasn't too much of a chore - but previously I would have picked up a top or two.

I have already done a lot of decluttering on ebay. I sold some shoes that were just sitting there as well as clothes. I love selling on ebay. I get addicted.

CiderwithBuda · 04/06/2015 16:07

Tizwailor - unnecessary purchase are to be avoided but if your feet are sore you need something!

Purple nail varnish - def a frivolous purchase Val! Well done on resisting!

I've found ebaying satisfying and addictive too. It helps me be less sentimental about stuff too - particularly kids clothes etc. as I now look at them wonder how much they might go for! There'll always be a few wee things I can't let go of though.

HalleLouja · 04/06/2015 16:35

I am careful about what I ebay as lots of stuff doesn't make any money but certain brands do. Especially with kids stuff.

AmethystMoon · 04/06/2015 17:08

I need to start ebaying. Must make a start this weekend.....and not spend what I make on stuff I don't need!
