No Spend on S&B during June - Anyone In?

Valsoldknickers · 30/05/2015 11:41

Is anyone up for not spending money on unnecessary S&B items for the month of June?

My finances are not in good order Sad. I did a 'no spend' couple of months with other MNetters (online and lurking) last year. It was bliss to get a credit card bill afterwards with an almost zero balance. I felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders (albeit temporarily)!

I have enough of everything - hair dye, moisturiser, clothes (if I shifted a few pounds), etc. Any other spending would just be on frivolous crap if I were to continue as I have been doing!

Roll on 1st June, I am tightening the purse strings and hiding my credit card! Come and join the fun ConfusedGrin

I'm in - I'm like a spending machine at the moment and it needs to stop. Instead, I will focus on selling all the stuff I don't wear on Facebook/eBay. I get a little kick out of seeing my Paypal balance increasing.

I need to start by deleting all the emails I get from retailers every day tempting me with new shiny things...

daimbardiva · 01/06/2015 18:30

I'm in!! I too have a cut and colour booked in June which is ESSENTIAL but def no clothes or skincare buying for me this month!

daimbardiva · 01/06/2015 18:58

I've been ebaying a lot of stuff recently and it is addictive - have made about £100 so far. The challenge is not to just spend it all again straight away but strangely I've not really had the urge. Instead I find myself trawling my wardrobe for more to sell!!

I think the fact that the weather is so crap here atm helps as there is no point in buying summer clothes!!!

Valsoldknickers · 01/06/2015 19:40

I've done the same as Lambzig regarding buying the same garment in multiple colours. For example, I've convinced myself that the yellow top in the sale will be lovely (eventhough it is not one of my colours) because I already have it in blue and quite like it. A year later the top will be languishing in my wardrobe unworn and unloved!

This month I think I will invest a little time on Pinterest and learn how to style and incorporate clothes into outfits that I already have instead of scouring sites looking for additional €£€£ wasting clutter!

Good idea re: Pinterest!

iwantgin · 01/06/2015 20:17

I'm in.

In fact I have some bras I need to return as they don't fit - so I'll be making money this month.

However will need a hair cut - does that count ?

AmelieinOz · 01/06/2015 21:27

I'm guilty of buying two of the same item, or/and in multiple colours if it's something I really like.

For example, I now have 11 pcs black Uniqlo Heattech fleece turtleneck. And I think 7 or 8 of the regular Heattech long-sleeved shirts.

Good thing I tend to do this with basics so I can convince myself it's necessary.

But if it's not a basic item and I really like it, I get the urge and most of the times succumb to buying two - one in a smaller size because I am forever dieting.

So bring on No Spend June!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/06/2015 21:52

Haircutting is allowed, as is underwear and tights/socks (that's maintainence Smile )

I have been sent (as it's my birthday, did I say ? Grin )

Double Points in Boots all June
5% off Matalan
Money off Bodyshop.

OK, I'll ignore the Matalan one but DH needs sunglasses and I might have a birthday wander round Bodyshop.

AmethystMoon · 02/06/2015 08:07

Only the Second day and already I caught myself planning to buy some nice shower gel I saw on offer in M&S yesterday......no no no!
This might be harder than I realise....

Ktjb36 · 02/06/2015 09:45

I'm in too! Really need to sort through my clothes and get rid of things that do not fit however lovely they are. Had a bit of a spending spree in May so i surely don't need anything else.

frankietwospots · 02/06/2015 11:25

OK, so I've sold a Boden dress on a Facebook group and will be returning some jeans I don't need to Next today. Planning to sort out a pile of stuff to eBay next.

iwantgin · 02/06/2015 13:25

Successful day so far.

I had to go and return some bras to Debenhams. So am in profit by £41. Managed to walk the whole length of the shopping centre and back without buying anything bar a couple of Father's Day cards.

Even went in Lush and tried on some scents - but didn't buy. Just bent the ear of the staff. Ha ha.

WhoisLucasHood · 02/06/2015 13:41

I'm in. I'm booked in to the hairdresser mid June but I can do this. I have an archive box full of toiletries that we've been working through since Jan. I do need a new mascara and razors but I can wait a month.
It means I have to stay in work at lunch and not go strolling through town and uninstall my eBay and Amazon app!

Lambzig · 02/06/2015 14:02

I am struggling with this today.

A jumpsuit I have been wanting to try has just come back in stock (ignores fact that at 5 ft 3 and size 12 I would probably look like a bag of scanners in it) and Toast has a sale with some lovely things in it.

Ridiculous, grip needed.

iwantgin · 02/06/2015 14:07

Aargh lambig stay strong!

You don't need it - think of the money saving. :)

I found it strangely liberating actually. I know i do need new bras - hence returning my recent purchase. But I can make do with the ones I have for a month. Whoknows, my diet might work and I can drop a size anyway.Smile

Valsoldknickers · 02/06/2015 14:43

When I get tempted I look at the material that the item is made from and that can put me off. There is so much yukky sweaty polyester and viscose floating about at the moment. Not summer or hormone friendly!Grin

I need to return a couple of things and then using that money to spend on a haircut and highlights.

Really unsure on what to do with my colour. I have a grown out ombre plus random highlights. Scouring Pinterest for inspiration.

Judydreamsofhorses · 02/06/2015 15:37

I am late but would like to join you ladies, please? I am getting my hair cut tonight after work but after that will really try and rein myself in from non-essential spending. I have a load of stuff in my wardrobe that's never even been worn, and already splurged on some new perfume when I was paid, so I really need to get a grip of myself!

FrugalFashionista · 02/06/2015 15:40

I've done quite a few no-spend months in the past and they seem to work best if I cut down time spent on shopping-related activities (such as visiting shops and malls and online stores) and increase time spent on other activities (for me: exercise, gardening, baking, reading, cultural things like museums, galleries, films).

Valsoldknickers · 02/06/2015 15:42

Welcome Judy! Smile

Reading my last post I am a bit disgusted with myself. Didn't buy anything though.

I need to ebay stuff next week. I have loads of stuff that still has the tags on and lots of baby Stokke stuff to sell (oh yes my ridiculous shopping extended to the DC too).

CiderwithBuda · 02/06/2015 19:11

Failed miserably today!

My phone died yesterday so I ended up in town this morning to try get it sorted. Ended up in TK Maxx - bought pjs and some skin stuff and an exfoliating body wash. Then went to Superdrug - foot soak and cream, Bb cream and something else. Can't even remember what!

Ended up having to drive to Bristol to the Apple Store so popped into John Lewis. Some hair stuff and a new hair brush.

I think I need to not take me credit cards out!

Got my phone problem sorted though!

Judydreamsofhorses · 02/06/2015 19:31

Thanks for the welcome val I went to Boots before the hairdresser and bought deodorant - then straight out. Normally I'd have pottered around a bit and ended up buying stuff. Early days, though!

Valsoldknickers · 02/06/2015 19:48

If unused / unopened you can always return the goods Cider Wink
