No Spend on S&B during June - Anyone In?

Valsoldknickers · 30/05/2015 11:41

Is anyone up for not spending money on unnecessary S&B items for the month of June?

My finances are not in good order Sad. I did a 'no spend' couple of months with other MNetters (online and lurking) last year. It was bliss to get a credit card bill afterwards with an almost zero balance. I felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders (albeit temporarily)!

I have enough of everything - hair dye, moisturiser, clothes (if I shifted a few pounds), etc. Any other spending would just be on frivolous crap if I were to continue as I have been doing!

Roll on 1st June, I am tightening the purse strings and hiding my credit card! Come and join the fun ConfusedGrin

Mmm not a good start here, only £4 but bought cotton PJ bottoms in sale in Sainsburys.
Does it count if picked up in supermarket shop? clutches straws
On the plus side I avoided Town at lunchtime and avoided the toiletries aisle in Sainsburys.
Small steps.....

CiderwithBuda · 02/06/2015 21:48

I could indeed Val. I suspect I probably won't though!

Amethyst - I convince myself of that too - doesn't count if in Sainsburys shop! It goes on DH's spreadsheet as food! Anything else I buy he puts on spreadsheet as 'make-up'.

I'm not buying anything else. Honest.

AmethystMoon · 02/06/2015 21:52

Ah excellent, good to know that as part of a supermarket shop it's not technically an S&B purchase Grin

Roseybee10 · 02/06/2015 21:59

I'm in. On maternity leave and really need to tighten up. The only thing I may buy is a dress for a wedding I have coming up.
I don't need any Beauty products. I'm all stocked up.

fredabear · 02/06/2015 21:59

Just checking that m&s bras and knickers don't count either...?

Judydreamsofhorses · 02/06/2015 22:07

We are moving house this weekend so have started packing clothes tonight. Seven unworn tops, still with tags, all bought in the last three months. In my defence, they are summery and it's not been warm enough to wear them, but honestly, what a disgrace.

Judydreamsofhorses · 02/06/2015 22:08

Bras and knickers definitely don't count in my book, unless they're splash-out-special-occasion-lingerie.

Valsoldknickers · 02/06/2015 22:12

Hmm, the exceptions are taking on a life of their own!

If you think S&B buys don't count because they come from a supermarket and not Boots or that new knickers and bras don't count you are just conning yourself!Grin

Exceptions to me would be if I already booked something that I rarely do otherwise, or if my undies actually fall apart and need replacing.

We are only talking about a month after all!Wink

Drat Val, I suspect you are right. We need you to pull us back on course!

Twinklestar2 · 02/06/2015 23:40

I'm in too!

I'm terrible for buying stuff 'cause it's a bargain' for both me and my son! I have so many clothes and so does he and I'm on maternity leave and I'm on a budget and and and I'm in debt... So many reasons!!

I do need to get my eyebrows and mush waxed tho! I cannot inflict the public on my non-waxed face!!

I will delete my subscriptions to the zillions of newsletters tempting me to buy stuff. Anyone else find Dorothy Perkins are always having a sale?

fredabear · 03/06/2015 00:46

Essential replacement undies, mine were indeed falling apart and I'd already been putting off replacing for weeks, definitely a necessity.

Lauren83 · 03/06/2015 00:49

I'm in! Got 5th ivf in a few months after losing twins last month (7 years of trying) need to pay for some immunes testing. Proper budgeting/scrimping now (already didn't spend much due to ivf) but really need to cut down even more

Twinklestar2 · 03/06/2015 08:40

Good luck Lauren on your IVF X

Valsoldknickers · 03/06/2015 08:59

FlowersLauren Flowers I hope it all goes really well for you.

Thankyou both I really appreciate it! Already don't drink/smoke/go out or on holiday. Never spent much on things, get free clothes through my job and don't buy anymore really apart from the odd pair of work shoes, I use value range in supermarkets and have swapped my Mac foundation for rimmel, and toileteries from the pound shop, if anyone else has ideas please share them Smile I don't drive and we are renting but I have quite a lot of debt from ivf and a failed marriage/house purchase years ago, so I spend about £450 a month on debt payments. Oh and I'm taking my lunch to work and my daily Nero is now 50p works coffee machine!

mirpuppet · 03/06/2015 11:38

I'm with frugalfashionista Focus on other things you enjoy rather than shopping.

And as Val says it is only a month.

For myself my goal is to ebay or give away some items in my closet.

RavioliOnToast · 03/06/2015 13:18

can I join?

we're almost level with our finances after getting married on October, we will only be about £50 into overdraft this month :) I'm over the moon! I've got a couple.of hundred outstanding on next and a couple of hundred on a credit card bit other than that were all okay!

I'd like to be a lot more frugal with things though. I am a sahm so don't have 'my own income' my dh doesn't object at all to buying me things etc but I hate using his money for things.

first step to reduce outgoing this week was aldi shop! instead of the usual £70-80 I would spend on food shopping, nappies, wipes and Formula, I spent £50! on Everything! I did sneak some cheapy aldi night cream and serum into that

the only thing I need desperately is cotton wool pads and facewash, I actually have no facewash and about 4 pads. Are these allowed? is it just unnecessary purchases that are banned?

Valsoldknickers · 03/06/2015 13:59

Welcome Ravioli! I think that necessities are exceptions otherwise how will you clean your face! Smile

I am stopping myself from buying frivolous unnecessary stuff, or things that can wait (and will hopefully not seem so necessary by the end of the month). They're just my thoughts.

I'm in.
Seemed to spend half of last week in Superdrug with DD. Drawers overflowing and can't fit another hanger in the wardrobe . I have cut and colour booked and may have to buy DH something for Father's Day but other than that should be fine . May even have a wardrobe clear out .

Greenstone · 03/06/2015 14:11

Joining late! Haven't bought anything so far and don't need anything. Been trying to convince myself that baby dd needs some new vests but she doesn't really if I stay on top of the laundry, also a friend will be donating hand me downs soon.
I also 'need' black eyeliner cause my only one is growing pretty small and I like to have multiples for upstairs, car, handbag etc. --BUT! I shall not buy until June is out.

Nearly booked a leg wax this morn but then thought fuck it I have strips, I'll do it myself. Ditto feet and toenails,,ditto roots.

It's hard but we can do this, no letting ourselves off Wink

Twinklestar2 · 03/06/2015 14:54

It's only day one for me and I'm finding it hard already!!

I'm wearing some new blue shorts I brought last month and I really want to get a lovely crisp white shirt to wear with them but I've settled for a printed vest as I'm only hanging around the house today ??

Valsoldknickers · 03/06/2015 15:17

Wow Greenstone, that's dedication! Grin
