Oh I really hope it doesn't rain on any of our holidays, I don't mind one day as long as it isn't like it was last year, it rained every single day so we came home early and then thats when things really started to get bad.

I don't even want to think about last year, I hope that this year makes up for it though.

OP posts:
Squirrel3 · 20/07/2006 12:30

Naam what time do you leave?

OP posts:
alligator · 20/07/2006 12:47

lol Squirrel dp says that too and it generally is but only cos I've gone to the trouble of sorting it all. then he turns round and says see I told you everything would be fine grrrrrr.

Its not going to rain definitely not at all!!! till we both get back from hols. And we are all going to have a fab time. I KNOW we are.

NotActuallyAMum · 20/07/2006 12:50

Really hope you have good weather, you so deserve a nice holiday I'll be thinking of you all coming down that big slide

Squirrel3 · 20/07/2006 13:17

Thanks folks

Hope you both have a wonderful holiday, I'll be thinking of you

Surfermum · 20/07/2006 21:39

Have a lovely holiday NAAM. We might be getting away early next week as dh's work seems to have gone very quiet, and as he's self employed it means we can just clear off if we want to. You watch, there'll be a rush of bookings now.

You must have been in Cornwall the same time as us last year Squirrel. It rained all week for us, I got tonsillitis and ended up at the emergency surgery and we came home early. And I wanted to - I must have been ill to want to leave Cornwall early .

Dh went to the school play last night, he said it was brilliant and I would have really enjoyed it . He took photos of dsd and her costume looked great. He very nearly phoned BM and said that as I had sorted out her costume it would be nice if I could go ..... then we chickened out! If she gets annoyed she ends up being difficult over contact and we didn't want to risk her refusing to let us take dsd on holiday early.

Squirrel3 · 21/07/2006 11:58

Surfermum, did DH see anyone recording the play? Could he ask for a copy. I know dsd's schol recorded it and we have ordered a copy.

BTW dsd's play was really good, the hall was very hot but the play was excellent. dsd was really proud when we told her how good it was, dss got all jealous and asked "Do you think it was better than mine, be honest?"

Of course I couldn't comment because I wasn't invited to his but dp told him that he couldn't remember his one "You know what my memory is like!" he said. Arrrrrrgggggh!

Hello all

Hope everyone's OK

alligator really hope you have a good holiday

alligator · 04/08/2006 12:11

Hi Naam

thanks am really looking forward to it. We packe dlast night and everything went in really easily. Am now wondering what we have forgotten. It was all too easy.

How was yor hols? hope you had a great time. Do tell us all about it.

Am not too busy today as have been working hard getting everything organised at work before I go nad I seem to have it all sorted. Am sure I've forgotten to do something tho.

NotActuallyAMum · 04/08/2006 13:25

Hello alligator

Glad you're all packed and ready. We thought the same as you when we loaded the car up - must have forgotten something because it was too easy - but we hadn't so don't worry

We had a good time thank you, weather was fantastic too which helps. dsd was OK, she had her moments but don't they always?? DP and I both realised whilst we were away that dsd eats far too much! And of course we're not very good role models! So we're all cutting down now. She eats as much as her Dad which at 13 isn't good, and she's constantly hungry - I reckon she'd eat all day if we'd let her! The only thing that annoyed me on holiday, and it really did annoy me, is that she's always complaining about something!! Honestly, if she hasn't got a headache/sore throat/backache or pain in some other body part then she's grumbling she wants a drink/something to eat or she wants to go here/doesn't want to go there. It really did get to me, hundreds of kids would give their right arm for the life she has yet she's never satisfied. ~~sigh~~ never mind.

DP and I go away again 3 weeks tomorrow with his parents. dsd is going to her nan's (BMs parents) in Yorkshire for the week now - she was coming with us but we had a change of plan

DPs parents told him the other day that when we get married they're going to pay for a honeymoon for us, bless them, and of course they'll look after dsd for the week. I really don't know what we'd do without them

Hope the weather picks up for you

How are things with you?

alligator · 04/08/2006 13:33

Glad you ahd a good time. Kids do moan alot at that age anyway. Dss does all the time. His main one is 'Im tired' when asked to do anything at all. dss also eats a lot. He eats more than his dad but then he growing at a rate and is skinny as a beanpole. He now about 5' 7" or 8" and doesnt seem to be stopping. Its a good idea to keep an eye on what they eat tho and try to get them to eat healthy. We have both talked to dss about food alot and he does enjoy fruit and veg which is a bonus.
I forgot to pack teabags and plates. Knew there was something. Mind you can always buy teabags. but its a good idea to have some handy. I cant cope without my tea in the mornings.

thats brillaint about the honeymoon too. Bet you are looking forward to it now . what lovely in-laws you are getting

NotActuallyAMum · 04/08/2006 13:54

lol at can't cope without tea in the mornings

That's good to know that your dss eats so much too. dsd won't eat any fruit or veg, and she's a size 16 too which I don't think's good at 13 so we'll certainly keep an eye on it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying she's fat - she isn't, but she has got quite a belly on her (says me...)

My ILs certainly are great, bless 'em. They're paying for this holiday too, FIL will be 60 while we're away and it's their 40th wedding anniversary in September so MIL wanted to do something to celebrate and they asked us to go with them. FIL doesn't even know yet, we've put together a story that means he thinks DP and I are dropping him and MIL off then going on to somewhere else on our own. Bet we'll be nearly there before he realises

Hope Squirrel's having a good time. Wonder where everyone else is? Not heard from FANC for a while, must e-mail her make sure she's OK

NotActuallyAMum · 12/08/2006 15:56

Hope you had a good holiday Squirrel

Hope everyone else is OK

Squirrel3 · 12/08/2006 16:42

Had a good holiday thanks Naam, I'm glad yours was good too.

Think I should change my name to surfernan though (sorry surfermum) I was surfing like an old hand by the end of the holiday!

The camp site was a bit disappointing, it was on a slope, so you kept on rolling out of bed!!! and the walk to the loo?s was up-hill and was quite a struggle when you had had one to many (which was quite often ) One evening dp and I were a 'tinsy bit tipsy' (Ok we were drunk) and when we had walked to the loo?s the ladies was shut (for cleaning), there was another woman waiting too so dp said "Its ok, come into the men?s!!!!" he dragged me and the woman we had never met before into the men?s loo?s with him!!!!!! I went into the cubicle and was saying "I can't believe I am peeing in the men?s loo?s!"

Now, dp was supposed to be 'guarding' and warning any men that came in what was happening......

Yep, you guessed it, when we came out of the cubicle there were several men using the urinals!!!!

We went bright red and covered our eyes "Oooooops sorry, ooooooops oh dear, sorry" was all we could say as we tried to find the exit without looking at a line of men peeing!!!!!

I wonder if the other woman was a MNetter? I wonder if she has started a thread? I wonder what the title would be?

YAY Squirrel's back I've missed you!!

Glad you had a good holiday, PMSL at the loo story

Hope you're OK

Hope everyone else is OK too [smile[

NotActuallyAMum · 16/08/2006 08:15

OK where is everyone?? Think alligator's still away, bet Squirrel's busy doing washing and ironing

FANC where are you??

alligator · 16/08/2006 08:51

Hello all I'm back too. Was so busy at work yesterday barely got a chance to look on here. Our campsite was fab. Toilets were a tad more basic than I had expected (I had thought they would have seats rather than 2 sheets of wood over a hole in the ground) but we managed ok even dd. Showers were solar powered and very good. It was fab to have a campfire and we did all our cooking over it (bar morning cups of tea ...no way could we wait taht long)

I'm amazed you have never been in a blokes loo Squirrel You want to come to Dublin on All Ireland final day. Two queues of girls outside the loos of a well known burger place. the fellas jsut have to lump it.

Where we were was quite hilly too but dd and I got a fairly flat bit luckily. Dp and dss were on a bit of a slope but it wasnt too bad. could have done with another week tbh as dss didnt really get into the swing of things till the Thursday and by then it was nearly time to go home.

NotActuallyAMum · 16/08/2006 08:57

Hello alligator glad you had a good one. I thought you'd gone for 2 weeks for some reason...

We go again a week on Saturday with PIL. FIL still hasn't got a clue bless him. Had a serious panic on Sunday morning, the hotel phoned and said "sorry but you can't have one of your rooms, the ceiling has collapsed" I thought OMG I'll never find anywhere at this short notice for bank holiday week!! But luckily I did, DP and I have to have a room without an en-suite for Saturday and Sunday but we'll cope, I was just so pleased to find something. We're staying here now

Surfermum · 16/08/2006 10:59

Hi All. I'm back too, for another week anyway, then we're off to France for the other week that we have dsd.

Blimey Alligator you do really hardcore camping. Respect!

Our camping trip was fab, we went early and stayed an extra night. I have to be dragged out of Cornwall kicking and screaming. We were on a lovely small site with a 10.30 curfew, which was great for us on our own, but wouldn't do when we go away in a group - things are normally just warming up at that time! The girls made loads of friends and for the first time I let dd (3.2) go off on her own and play. It was lovely as everyone looked out for everyone else's children.

It was a remarkably sober week for me, but I did get drunk one night on port and widdled in dd's potty again (and filled it). We had a raucous game of Uno and I then got giggly having complained that my batteries on my headlamp were running out, only to be told I still had my sunglasses on. So I think the trophy for "Best Drunken Holiday Activity for Step-Mums" goes to Squirrel .... well so far, we shall await further nominations.

I managed to surf once and bodyboarded loads. I really must get fit before I go surfing again as ached all over the next day! I bought some really cool boardies too while I was there - 2 pairs - I don't know what came over me I spent nearly £80 on them. And I'm a charity shop/ebay gal. I'm going to have to live in them for the next 10 years to justify the expense. By which time I'll be 54 .

NotActuallyAMum · 16/08/2006 11:29

Hello surfermum glad you had a good one too. What's Uno? Never heard of that. PMSL at you thinking your headlamp batteries are running out when you're wearing sunglasses

Agree Squirrel's winning the 'drunken step-mums holiday activity' award so far. Can't see me topping it when we go, not when PIL are coming with us...wonder if alligator's got any stories to tell us?

Surfermum · 16/08/2006 11:58

Uno is a great card game. I think you can play it with normal cards, but what you do is you have 7 cards in your hand and one is turned over from the pack to start. You have to lay a card of the same number or same colour from your hand, or pick one up. There are action cards as well that mean the next person picks up 2 or picks up 4. That's the basics anyway. We've had endless hours of playing it with dsd and have holiday championships, as you can score points from each round. I swear they get me drunk so I don't win.

NotActuallyAMum · 16/08/2006 12:43

lol surfermum, yes they probably do! I'm useless at cards, I'd lose when stone cold sober so wouldn't stand a chance when drunk
