Glad it's going well I'm lucky here, there's air-con in the corridor outside my office so I only have to leave my door open and it's quite cool

Yes we're all packed and ready. Didn't think we'd get everything in - when we put everything in the hallway and looked at it we were like OMG this is not all going to fit in the car!! But it has - apart from a pack of loo roll which the girls can have in the back with them. I'm still a bit sceptical about it all if I'm honest, I'm still getting used to having dsd around and now I'm taking not one but two friends away for a week and 2 days! But I am looking forward to it as well though, very much. We found out the other day that one of her friends has never been on holiday in her life - at all!! Her Dad lives on the South coast and she's only ever been down there to see him, which in my book doesn't count as a holiday. She is sooooo excited - well, they all are of course but her in particular

Not a nice day here today, it's very hot, very muggy and cloudy. It was drizzling slightly when I came to work. Think we might be in for some thunder and lightning! Ooohh eeeerrr!!

workingmumnhs · 20/07/2006 09:26

Am I mean?

Have shut DD in her room till she tidies up. I know she is only three but she can do it when she wants something why not now.
I feel like the worst person in the world. She is screaming. How old should they be before you make them start tidying up after themsleves. Should I go and help her. (Which means I do it and she sits on the bed and watches)

Squirrel3 · 20/07/2006 09:29

Its sunny here today Naam but I bet we have some thunder storms later, I hope the weather is nice for your holiday.

Talking of which, its lovely that you are taking the girl who has never had a holiday, I bet she is soooooooo excited, she will remember it for the rest of her life - her first holiday - brilliant!

Hello workingmum

Sounds like she's throwing a bit of a paddy if she's screaming so I'd leave her to it for now. Don't really know about an 'age' for tidying but if she can do it sometimes I quite agree why not now. Having said that, I think I would probably at least sit on the bed and talk her through what she has to do - after she's finished throwing her paddy

NotActuallyAMum · 20/07/2006 09:34

The weather report atm is rain for Saturday but very warm and sunny apart from that. I can only find 5 day weather reports though, no-one seems to do any further ahead than that

We'll have a day at Butlins during the week, we love it there, specially the pool

workingmumnhs · 20/07/2006 09:37

Went up to explain what I wanted her to do and she told me she didn't want to do it. Told her that you don't always get what you want and went backe downstairs. She is quiet now and I can hear a few bumps and bangs from her room/. Maybe she is doing it.

It is madness up here. The schools all broke up last week and loads have roads have been closed due to the stupid golf. They are trying to keep the traffic down.
People who live in hoylake aren't haveing their bins emptied to ease congestion and their water keeps getting cut off the water the golf course.
How can that happen!
Jsut because The Wirral is crawling with A list celebs why do the residents have to suffer.
A girl in work saw George Clooney and Robin Williams in the pub the other day
The prices have been doubled in the pubs to keep people out.
STUPID !

Squirrel3 · 20/07/2006 09:39

What the?.... She is three right?!

I think that three is a little too young to be shut in a room and told to tidy it!

I think you should go in there and make it fun for her, make a game out of it, you know 'you put this away and I'll put this away'.

I'm sorry if I offended you but I am a little shocked and yes, I do think you are being a little bit mean.

Sorry again for being so, you know, and I would never have a go at anyone and try to be a little diplomatic normally but this has got me a little bit fired up.

OP posts:
workingmumnhs · 20/07/2006 09:39

Nope the room is still a mess. And now she "don't want you anymore"

workingmumnhs · 20/07/2006 09:46

Yes I do think three is a bit young but she does it when she wants something. I'm not asking her to do the whole thing. Just make her bed and put the dolls house away. She isn't shut in. She has been told not to come downstairs til it is done.

NotActuallyAMum · 20/07/2006 09:49

Doubled the prices in the pubs to keep people out?? I'd boycott the pubs!

workingmumnhs · 20/07/2006 09:52

They wouldn't want George Clooney mixing with John Smith would they.

Squirrel3 · 20/07/2006 09:55

In your original post you said 'Have shut DD in her room till she tidies up'

That did alarm me, I still think you should go and talk her through it with her, and tell her that once it is done she can have an ice-lolly or go to the park or whatever, then if she doesn?t help don?t let her have the lolly/don?t go to the park or whatever. She is only three after all.

OP posts:
workingmumnhs · 20/07/2006 10:01

She has done it now. I will put her clothes away. She can't do that. Just want her to learn to tidy up after herself. The room is much cleaner than I thought she'd get it actually. We going to get nice ice lollies now.

Squirrel3 · 20/07/2006 10:05

Nothing wrong with teaching children to tidy up after themselves but at three I think a little supervision doesn't go astray.

Hope she enjoys her ice lolly.

OP posts:
Squirrel3 · 20/07/2006 10:08

Maybe supervision is the wrong word more like a little guidance, I feel that children that age need to be shown and helped over and over again.

OP posts:
NotActuallyAMum · 20/07/2006 10:09

Yes I do agree Squirrel - that's why I said I would have sat on the bed and talk her through what I wanted her to do

I could just eat an ice lolly......

workingmumnhs · 20/07/2006 10:11

I did in the end. She did well. We will get the ice lollies when she decides what shoes she wants to wear. Every pair I pick are wrong. They are to big/small or just yucky.

NotActuallyAMum · 20/07/2006 10:33

I only had one pair of shoes when I was her age and they were hand-me-downs of my sisters. I was only telling dsd the other day that I didn't have any clothes bought for me until I was 10. She didn't believe me at first, took some convincing. She's taking more clothes with her on holiday than I own!

NotActuallyAMum · 20/07/2006 11:59

4 hours to go - not that I'm counting of course

alligator · 20/07/2006 12:06

Hurrah finished the query thats taken me two weeks to write so I'm nipping on here for a break.

Hope you have a fab holiday NAAM. I cant wait for mine we're going in 2 weeks. Need to go sort out the tents and everything

Squirrel3 · 20/07/2006 12:12

Hello Alligator, we go on the 29th, I keep on telling dp we should check the tent this weekend, and he says "Mmmmmmm ok" which usually means "Maybe, if we have time and I'm bored or if we bump into the devil himself wearing a pair of ice-skates"!

Am I mad thinking we should check the tent? I'm sure it will be ok but what if it isn't?

OP posts:
NotActuallyAMum · 20/07/2006 12:13

Hello alligator blimey, 2 weeks?? Thank you, I'm sure we'll have a good time. On countdown now, nearly done all my work just a few bits to finish off

Not a nice day today here - muggy, overcast and heavy. I'd prefer it to rain! I just know what's going to happen, there'll be a chuffin' storm as soon as we set off! Just my luck!!

NotActuallyAMum · 20/07/2006 12:14

Squirrel I'd definitely check the tent if I were you - better safe than sorry

alligator · 20/07/2006 12:15

I'd check the tent tbh.

I dont need to check ours cos mine's new and dp's is in smithereens anyway (hope it doesnt rain) so I've got to patch it up. will search ebay for a bargain after the summer I think. waht I do need to do is FIND the tents and sleeping abgs and wade through the piles of Viking stuff to get what we need to take ordinary camping

Squirrel3 · 20/07/2006 12:25

Dp is so laid back about things though, his favorite saying is "It will be alright and so what if it isn't we will sort it out".

Infuriating!

The tent hasn't been out since last year, I'm not even sure it went away a bit damp, I kept on telling dp then we should get it out and make sure it was propery dry but he said "mmmmmmmm ok" and we all know what that means.
