Can totally relate to the clothes thing. Dsd's bm used to regularly forget underwear for weekend stays. Then she'd blame them for not packing their bags properly. They were only 5 at the time!!

The shoe saga was resolved yesterday. They found the missing shoe in a box full of vidoes that they haven't looked at for ages! Dsd2 has admitted putting it in there. . We'd only just got her a new pair of shoes at the weekend (albeit a cheap pair) and she'd been lording it over her sister that she had a new pair! Not for much longer, dp and I are going to make her wear her old ones. Try and get across the message that if you hide things deliberatley (sp?) you don't get to keep the new things!

NotActuallyAMum · 12/07/2006 11:30

Hello all

I'd make her wear the old shoes too mummyno2, crafty little devil her. In fact has she worn the new ones yet? Could you take them back?

Has anyone got a cure for a hangover? I thought it was a good idea to have a few drinks last night - I was wrong, it was a bad idea!!

Hope everyone's OK

mummyno2 · 12/07/2006 12:02

Yes she has worn them to school this week and annoyed everyone telling them she has new shoes. She's already sulked over the fact she can't wear them again. I've threatened to throw them away. These ones were only £10.

Hangover cures... Just the normal stuff, plenty of water and a good fry up works for me. Lucozade Sport is normally a good one to drink too.

NotActuallyAMum · 12/07/2006 13:08

Feel a bit better now. That's the last time I have too much to drink when I've got work in the morning! When I went into the bathroom first thing, I went to the sink to have a wash and brush my teeth and I pulled my trousers and knickers down Had to tell myself 'no naam, you're not going to the loo!' Then when I got to work I put the jar of canderel in the fridge!!

Gorgeous day here, far too nice to be at work

Surfermum · 12/07/2006 20:26

Hi everyone! I feel very guilty that I've been neglecting this thread. It's not intentional, it's just that whenever I come on mumsnet I'm only meant to be popping on and if I come on here I'll end up in a big chat and even less housework will get done!

Anyway, how are you all? Sorry to read about all the upset with dsd NAAM, but I'm glad it seems to have calmed down again. She's bound to be feeling all sorts of emotions after what went on with her mum and is maybe testing you to see if you reject her as well. Hope you have a great holiday.

I've been a bit up and down, I don't know if anyone saw my other thread. I found a lump which thankfully turned out to be just normal breast tissue, so that was a huge relief, but I had a week more worrying than I should have as the hospital lost my referral. I'm hoping that the worry has meant I have lost weight though, every cloud and all that . Oh I did get slimmer of the week the other week too! Current loss is 2 stone 2.5lbs, so I'm going for another stone.

Dsd is coming this weekend, which I'm looking forward to. DD is really missing her too. We haven't seen her for a month as we swapped a weekend. Her mum's got her knickers in a twist at the moment over the dates. The ones we think we're having her aren't the ones she thinks we are. Of course I get the blame, apparently "that f'ing fat tart has written them down wrong". I nearly grabbed the phone off dh and said "how very dare you - I was slimmer of the week last week" .

Surfermum · 12/07/2006 20:27

Oh and NAAM - hangover cures, my speciality!

No 1: Don't stop drinking

or

No 2: Coke, salt and vinegar crisps and a dip in a cold sea

NotActuallyAMum · 13/07/2006 08:17

Hello surfermum good to see you. Really sorry to hear about your worry, I didn't see your thread. So glad you're sorted now. PMSL at 'don't stop drinking' Love it!

How's everyone else? Hope everyone's OK

Squirrel3 · 13/07/2006 08:48

Hello everyone, I'm glad the lump turned out to be nothing serious - I know how worrying it can be, you tend to put your life on 'hold' until you know what it is.

Its my turn to have a hangover this morning, maybe I should have another drink and a dip in the sea?

Better not, I've got to go and have my photo's done for the security pass at work, don't want it to look like this!

OP posts:
NotActuallyAMum · 13/07/2006 09:11

lol Squirrel

Hangovers are not good! I really did feel truly awful yesterday, I am absolutely not doing that again when I've got work the next day!!

dsd is going out with her mum tonight. They're going to see a film, I thought the idea was that they talk and try to resolve things - they can't do that at the cinema! But I guess as long as things stay friendly that's all that matters. If BM isn't going to Yorkshire to see her mum this weekend dsd is going to her house for the night on Saturday, she's letting her know tonight

Squirrel3 · 13/07/2006 09:27

Thats good Naam, fingers crossed that it goes well.

I supose I'd better go and beautify myself....

Now where did I put that pollyfiller?

BTW Surfermum, well done on being slimmer of the week!

How cute is this? She is giving you a round of applause!

NotActuallyAMum · 13/07/2006 10:24

Awwww squirrel, how gorgeous

Yes massive well done to surfermum. I'm resorting to drastic measures after the holiday. Only realised this morning that when we get back on 29th July it's only 4 weeks till we go again with DPs mum and dad!

btw, I told DP last night that we're not getting married next year. I need to be absolutely certain that I'm doing the right thing, and after last weekend I just can't be sure atm. We're going to tell everyone we can't afford it, which is true anyway - I was going to borrow the money

Giving an absolutely gorgeous weekend out here. Really hope it keeps up for a few weeks while we're all away

NotActuallyAMum · 14/07/2006 12:44

Hello all

Hope everyone's OK. Squirrel really hope your new job goes well on Monday

childmindertracy · 14/07/2006 13:49

hi everyone i am a stepmum to samantha 13 she lives with us , us is my fiance that is if we ever do get married got date and everything set for next july but my job as a childminder means people keep robbing me of money so far to date it is £1600, makes my blood boil.
Back to my message tiffany who is also 13 and is samantha's best friend has been since nursery and Caitlin who is 11, i have another step daughter who lives with her mam, and hey guess what her mam hates me but hey i can live with that, but i get on excellent with Samantha obviously it has taken time to get where we are today but it hasn't been a rough ride just me growing closer to Samantha and Phil getting on great with Tiffany and Caitlin, my other step daughter Amy i only see every other fortnight and school holidays so i am not so close to her as i am Samantha, but i am sure over time we will it has taken 4 years to get here so far.

Squirrel3 · 17/07/2006 08:33

Hello childmindertracy, welcome to our nutty club!

NotActuallyAMum · 17/07/2006 09:03

welcome childmindertracy

squirrel really hope it goes well, I'll be thinking of you too

Hope everyone else is OK

Just looked at the weather on the BBC and it's giving out 30 degrees in Skegness for Friday!! time for it to change though I know....the 3 girls are soooooo excited

Surfermum · 17/07/2006 17:34

Hello and welcome childmindertracy .

Hope your first day went well Squirrel.

Hope everyone else had a good weekend. We had dsd this weekend. She arrived on Friday and asked me to get her a costume for her school play on Tuesday! Plenty of notice then. So off we set to the charity shops on Saturday morning and we had a lovely time sorting out her costume and having a good old rummage for some bargains. It was a real good girly shopping trip. The only thing that makes me sad is that I won't see her in the play as BM has made it clear that I am not welcome . I would love to see her up on the stage and wearing her costume, but it really isn't worth upsetting her mum over it. I'm sad that I won't be seeing her and angry that her mum still thinks she is nothing to do with me, that is until she needs a costume for school - then it becomes my responsibility. I did it, of course, without question for dsd and I sent her back to her mums with her costume and a "break a leg" wish.

Squirrel3 · 18/07/2006 06:12

Surfermum that is heartbreaking did dsd 'go through her lines' to 'sort of' give a you a general idea what its all about? Is dh going? I hope he can take photo's or maybe you can get hold of a video of it, someone is bound to video it. BTW you are so clever making costumes, I wouldn't have a clue. I guess I am lucky this year then, I have been invited to go to my dsd's school production tomorrow evening Its the first time I have been, dsd has gone through all of her lines and songs at home with us, so we kind of know the play anyway but it will be nice to see her on stage.

First day at work was fine, Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts. I wasn't half as nervous as I thought I would be and the work is interesting. I had to go to the personnel dept first thing and the personnel manager is a step-mum having a hard time coping with her step-daughter, the step-daughter doesn't like her because the mother doesn't like her and has turned dsd against her, the step-daughter 'glues' herself to Dad the whole time she is there and I thought "Now where have I heard that before?" Lol. I did try reasure her that things do get better, I described to 'two steps forward one weekend, then the one step backwards the following weekend'. She said "Exactly! that is exactly what it is like!" I think I reasured her that its normal and being nutty helps.

Hopefully I will be able to get on here on Thursday for a chat before you go away Naam.

NotActuallyAMum · 18/07/2006 13:01

surfermum that's awful, feel really for you. It makes me so that we're only good enough when it comes to certain things. Why on earth can BM not see that her dd wants you there? It's not about what she wants herself - her dd should come first!! GRRRRR

squirrel so glad your first day went well bet the personnel manager was soooo pleased to speak to you about being a stepmum

Can't believe I go away on Thursday and I haven't even started packing yet it's sooooo unlike me, I've normally got it done at least 2 weeks before. Feel quite stressed about it now, my own fault I know. Told DP he can help me do it tonight. I'm finishing work at 4 on Thursday then it's straight home, get changed and go so it all needs to be finished tomorrow night

dsd has been in trouble at school this morning. She hasn't done p.e. yesterday and today and she told her teacher I knew she hadn't done it because she has hurt her ankle! Lies!! Feel like I'm banging my head against a brick wall....

~~sigh~~ oh well, onwards and upwards as they say

Hope everyone else is OK

workingmumnhs · 18/07/2006 21:22

Morning Squirrel

How are you and how's the job going?

Squirrel3 · 20/07/2006 09:00

Hello, its going quite well, there is so many people to remember (you know their names and what they do) its quite a big department and I am used to smaller offices, but I am sure I'm going to get know everyone soon.

Yesterday was sooooooooo hot though, the windows in our office open inwards, so you can't have the blinds down and have the window open (there is no air con either) so you have a choice of having the window open, but then you have the sun beating down on you, or have the window shut and have the blinds down. One of the 'bosses' did pop out and he came back with a load of ice lollies for us, which was nice.

Have you packed everything Naam?
