You don't need Slimming World, it's a cult and absolutely does not set you up for healthy eating and maintaining a sensible weight.

New starter here. Signed up just before Christmas, but decided to begin for real afterwards. Not sure if that was the right thing or not. Is it ok if I join you?

There’s always one @PamelaParis but you do get some sort of prize for being the very first post on the thread 🏆 🥇 🌟

thanks for the new thread @Wilma55 !

The class I'm hoping to attend is on a Monday. So will probably be the 8th I start again.

I've weighed myself. I know the damage done. I think I'm going to skip the sessions for January and see if I can get it under control by myself.

Looking forward to lots more vegetables in my life, with no bread, crisps or chocolate in January at least....

Hi everyone, I'm a new poster here.

I re-started slimming world in November after having my second baby. Lost 16lbs in 6 weeks but have now put 6lb back on over Christmas. Felt slightly deflated to be back under a stone loss but also feeling motivated to get back on track.

I want to lose about 7 stone in total so it's going to be a long slog..

Hi everyone! I had put on the joint top amount at this morning's group Grin an impressive 5lbs! I have loved Christmas and I know that most of that is water/food in my gut/salty food so I am not embarrassed.

I stayed under 10 stone and as of this morning am 9 stone 13, with a stone to go until target. I felt so nice over Christmas and am ready for the final push to target!

Welcome all! I picked the new books up today too!

Hi everyone. Ive put on 4lb over xmas. Absolutely no one in the group lost weight.
I lost 5 stones 2lb to get to target a year ago. I am now 9.5 lbs over target. Already back on plan to get rid of it,but my god im hungry. Thats the trouble with eating huge quantities over xmas, your stomach stretches.
Im determined to get it off though.

I gained 6lbs over Christmas, have already taken half a pound off again, but expect to gain more in the next two weeks. I vaguely aim to be back to where I started at the end of January, then to take another 8lbs off by Easter.

I don’t weigh in til Thursday and I really think I’ll have gained 7lbs! My meals have been good but then I keep having chocolate or other sweet things. I have the best of intentions but then it all goes wrong….

Hello! I’m usually rubbish at keeping up with these kind of threads but I’m going to give it a go anyway. Had got down to 10.11 at the beginning of December, down from 12st in September. 11st again this morning which is disappointing to have tipped over again as it was so nice starting to see a 10 on the scales however the damage could have been much worse so consoling myself with that!! We are however off for a new years meal this afternoon so I daresay I will be full of more fatty, delicious things by the end of the day…

Marking my space. I need accountability. Starting tomorrow. I really need a meal plan.

I was thinking of starting to count syns again rather than just vaguely staying on track, if anyone else is up for that? Given we have the new books for 2024!

Report
thenewaveragebear1983 · 31/12/2023 15:19

I absolutely hit self destruct today. In my defense, I’m tired and grumpy and miserable and I think I just needed to remove there being any possibility of staying on track. In addition to my vile mood, I have twinged a nerve in my neck so I pretty much cannot move, it’s incredibly painful and therefore the only solution was to eat a chocolate orange in bed with a hot water bottle. I absolutely must start tomorrow though or I’m in real danger of returning to group having regained everything I lost in 2023 🤦‍♀️

@thenewaveragebear1983 don't worry if you have gained what you put on last year - I am hoping my 'festive fun' is only a fairly temporary addition.

For me, I served up as many mince pies/chocs/sweets as I could yesterday at our NYD party so we are sloooowly returning to healthy cupboards in this house!

I might make some soup for lunch for the remaining weekdays.

Good luck everyone!

Hi all. Weighed in this morning, first since before Christmas and delighted to have only put half a pound on! Bought the 6 week countdown and got the new books though apparently there are no changes to the plan. Biggest gain in the group was 11 pounds!

Plan to look through the new books and look for a couple of new recipes to try.

Hello, all! Thanks for the new thread, fellow "cult"-members 😂

I weighed for the first time since before Christmas yesterday and was gobsmacked to have lost 1.5lb! No idea how as I've certainly had plenty of cheese and chocolate!

Anyway... I'll be having a look at my target as I need to readjust it a bit... I don't want to go too far though and find it impossible to maintain. I need to be realistic, but at the same time I don't want to short change myself... nice dilemma to have.

Sorry to hear you're feeling awful @thenewaveragebear1983 - I have had a horrible bug the past week (did several covid tests as it was so grim but all negative) so you have my sympathy for the grumpiness.

So I had a good, in fact, excellent day on plan today-
I pre-made overnight oats with Greek yoghurt and raspberries, few pieces of fruit, lunch was salad with salmon fillet and more fruit, and dinner was a baked potato, beans and cheese. But then annoyingly, I ate 2 biscuits and a wedge of Christmas cake. 🤦‍♀️ I find this bit really hard, trying to wean myself back into the plan and I know once I’ve had a few good days on track I’ll be back in the groove but those first few days are hard. I think not being able to weigh after Christmas as well hadn’t helped. There’s too much temptation of sugary stuff around when I am tired and find it hard to resist.

my weigh in day is Thursday and we have a new consultant and we get new books and k think they do the full ‘new members’ talk as well if I remember rightly. I think I need that.

I’m wfh tomorrow, I’ve already prepped my overnight oats and I’ve got a frozen portion of Christmas dinner for my lunch! Then dinner will be a chicken and celeriac one pot thing with loads of veg. I must remember to drink water tomorrow, I think that’s why I crashed out today as I hadn’t had any water only tea and coffee all day at work.

I found this on Pinterest, it sounds good as a beginner workout and you can start as small as you want building up to weighted/dumbbells. I quit my gym membership when I got my puppy as I couldn’t fit any classes in so for 3 months I’ve not done any strength training so I’m going to do this alongside my running as if starting from scratch.

It is so tough @thenewaveragebear1983 - last year it took me until March to get back on track after Christmas!

Today I had:
B: boiled egg
L: syn-free turkey curry, then I slightly went off track and had leftover garlic bread, half a bhaji, two chocolate tree decorations...
D: Diet Coke ham, kale, SW chips, a piece of chocolate and a Lindt ball, then two satsumas
snack: 25 grams Cadbury trail mix (4 syns I think), one glass hot squash

So I feel today was a bit of a transition day! Lots of syns but healthier than I have been. Lots of tea and coffee as l felt so tired, but I did have some water.

Please may I join the cult-followers thread?

I started last April, lost about a stone but have been slowly putting it back on. Time to knuckle down.

After reading some reassuring posts from you about gains in group, I bravely went for the weigh-in I nearly skipped tonight. Glad I did, feeling quite upbeat about it all. Even did a big upper body strength session.

Current weight - 11st 1. Target 9 st 12. 5 ft 5 - 46 years old.

Best of luck everyone

@TomWambsgansSwans hot squash is a great idea, more hydrating than tea but I do need a hot drink in the afternoon to get me through. I was given some sugar free coffee syrup for Christmas so I’ve been using my milk allowance to make a caramel latte which is also nice 👍

I slept really well last night, although I could have done with another hour or so! Going to run at 7 with dh and then take the dog out so I’ll probably hit my 10k steps before 9am! Food all sorted. What could possibly go wrong?!

Welcome @manysausages! I do think most people are in the same boat over Christmas - some people in my group had little losses but overall I'm sure my group will have had a gain. It's the nature of Christmas!

I'm having a boiled egg and some fruit for breakfast today and aiming for:

B: boiled egg/satsumas
L: homemade soup, ryvita, cheese, fruit
D: turkey vindaloo, two squares chocolate

...and I'll see how I get on!
