Would love to join your thread. Every little bit of encouragement helps!
Went back to group for the post Christmas weigh in and I have put on six pounds. Am struggling to get back 'in the groove' but apart from Christmas cake we have no more high calorie goodies left. Here's hoping I can get back on track in the next few days.

TomWambsgansSwans · 03/01/2024 21:17

I actually did what I set out to do today, partly due to writing down on here what I wanted to eat!!

I've just turned 40 and had the call for my NHS 40+ health check - I would love to go and be found to have a 'normal' BMI when I go, so that should keep me away from the biscuits over the next few weeks!!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/01/2024 22:05

@siansattic i’ve almost certainly put on 7lbs, I haven’t weighed in yet as my group is tomorrow. I’ve now got rid of eaten all the crap and made dh and the kids finish the Xmas cake so tomorrow I am properly ON IT!

OverTheRainbow2023 · 03/01/2024 22:12

I'll definitely be trying some of those Iceland meals. I've got my eye on the cauliflower Mac and cheese. Trouble is, as I'm veggie, there are never many options to choose from.

Weigh day for me tomorrow and I'm quite looking forward to it. I've been really busy this week, so although I know I haven't over indulged on treats, I've definitely let my 1/3rd of a plate speed and weighing of HEs slip a little. I'm hoping I've still been good enough for a loss though.

verylongday · 04/01/2024 12:32

Weigh day for me today and ive lost 2.5lbs. 🙃Im very surprised as I've been in bed all week with this awful bug thats going round. I'm normally a vert slow loser.
Ive stuck to the diet but eaten loads of carbs. Lots of baked potatoes and chips as DH is cooking and it needs to be simple.
The only thing that i can think of that might have boosted my weight loss is that I've been drinking masses of water due to generally feeling dessicated by the bug.

Puritizer · 04/01/2024 13:32

3.5 pounds since before Xmas. I had drawn a line under Xmas eating on Tuesday night but went into office and my manager had left treats for me in my locker pre Christmas. I lasted until 3pm and made a start on them. Probably gained a pound just from yesterday alone!

Anyway, back to club today and renewed effort to lose weight. We all were given a paper food diary to complete this week. As others have mentioned it was a refresh session so no going over gains. Going to draw up a meal plan for rest of week.

My house has no junk in it so no excuses and want to see a big loss next week!

manysausages · 04/01/2024 23:31

@verylongday - what a result! Well done

OverTheRainbow2023 · 05/01/2024 08:28

2lb loss for me yesterday which I'm pleased with. I'd love to lose 4lb this week to take me back to where I was before Christmas. Thinking of maybe doing some sp days? How's everyone else getting on?

Wilma55 · 05/01/2024 11:27

Well done @OverTheRainbow2023 and @manysausages I've not been sticking to plan since weigh in on Tuesday, too many tempting left overs and too little will power. Think I will listen to a SW podcast for motivation! Doesn't help that I've had a cold since Boxing Day!

Signing in for a stonking weight loss journey! Got a good 6 stone to lose but day one has gone well 😄

im just over 16 stone so get 20 Syns, when I go under 16 do I lose the extra 5 straight away?

Ralphiesaurus · 05/01/2024 13:22

Yes you do lose them as soon as you go under. I was over 16st when I started too. Good luck and well done on day 1!

LoreleiG · 05/01/2024 13:26

Joining the cult. I joined after October half term and have slowly lost 6lb overall including somehow not regaining it all over Christmas. But enjoying feeling back on track.

LoreleiG · 05/01/2024 13:27

Currently wolfing down a mushroom omelette and beans.

TheGirlWhoLived · 05/01/2024 13:54

Breakfast- pecan pie porridge
lunch-couscous chickpeas and peppers 1syn
dinner - chicken and bacon pasta bake with mixed salad and cheese
Snacks - fruit, cucumber sticks, mug shot (1syn)

never eaten so well!
this only puts me on 2 syns for the day though, can I roll the rest over so I can have a bottle of wine tomorrow or no? I’m doing the online subscription but can’t really find out about saving syns up!

Testarossa44 · 05/01/2024 15:20

In preparation for starting next week, I've bought weight watchers wraps and chucked them in the freezer, I've bought low fat squirty cream, stuff to make my own oat/seed bites and just made a big batch of syn free curry for the freezer. I'm actually looking forward to going back to group on Monday!

manysausages · 05/01/2024 17:13

Ooh you all sound very motivated and organised.

I took my soup to work but couldn’t be bothered to heat it up, so had it at 4 when I got home which means I can get away with a light tea. There was no sweetener at work so I did have 3 lumps of sugar throughout the day. I did have eggs and an orange, and one half syn yoghurt. What a weird day for food.

i did some squats yesterday and couldn’t sit down without grimacing - I hope no one noticed me gurning away

No, you can’t save your syns, sadly

TheGirlWhoLived · 05/01/2024 18:39

That’s such a shame! May as well use them tonight 😂

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/01/2024 19:13

@TheGirlWhoLived you’re not supposed to save your syns but I often did/do, I could happily eat fewer during the week but I do like a wine at the weekend and would use them on that. I never was a particularly fast loser though so not sure if it worked or not 🤷‍♀️

I’ve had a good day today. I’ve eaten loads of speed and free foods, loads of water, I went for a run and a dog walk before work, another dog walk at lunchtime, then after work I’ve done 2 hours housework! Knackered now. We’re doing dry January so no alcohol tonight but I must admit, I would like a glass of wine! I’ve had 6 syns on 2 hifi bars, I had Ryvita, cheese, ham and tomatoes for breakfast, crab sticks, banana, satsuma, leftover chicken with celeriac, carrot and broccoli, and for dinner we have steaks and SW chips. I’ve made a big fruit salad for the weekend and roasted a chicken and stripped all the meat off which I’ll use for salads and a sweet potato hash for breakfast tomorrow.

TheGirlWhoLived · 05/01/2024 22:51

Thanks! I think what I might do is not count them up religiously (my spare ones) but assume that I’ve gained myself 7 across the week which will cover a bottle if I fancy it. Like others I started dry January so hopefully the tee total life will win me over! Certainly will be better for my bank balance…
Dinner was delicious but ended up losing at least a quarter to an errant 2 year old

Breakfast- bacon eggs and beans (no speed though as I have to pop to the shops… I left a space for it though!)
lunch- noodles and stirfry veg with soy sauce
dinner- something with potatoes, maybe peri peri chicken with Mediterranean veg and hassleback potatoes

Elttek · 07/01/2024 00:03

Hello...I've signed up online. 3 months postpartum and 2 stone heavier than I'd like to be. Hoping to lose some of it before April. I was following the Joe Wicks plan pre pregnancy and I was very anti-slimming world at the time, but I figure you can make of Slimming World what you will- my syns will probably go on avocados (and wine) and will be trying my best to stay off sugary treats and highly processed food. Day 1 today and I've gone to bed starving!

TomWambsgansSwans · 07/01/2024 07:47

@Elttek welcome! I did SW post-birth and found it a dream, I got to my target (8st 10lbs) really steadily.

Once of the things I found is that being at group was lovely - I took a blanket and my baby played on the floor with some toys it cuddled someone while I had a cup of tea!

The food advice is so broad that if you like avocado and wine there is space for that. I personally don't bother counting avocados as syns but I know some people do.

pelagra · 07/01/2024 11:54

Welcome @Elttek . If you are starving, you haven't got the hang of yet. It took me a while to believe that it was really OK to snack on the right things, but it does work. My go to quick snacks are low-fat Baby Bels or thin sliced ham.

I also took time to believe I could have a decent portion of pasta or rice with meals, but my consultant kept saying "If you're stuffed, you're safe". Its OK to load your plate with vegetables.

My big news this week! I've gone through my wardrobe and pulled out all the size 20 and 18 top and dresses that no longer fit. Most are going to the charity shop, but I'm altering a few tops I really like. I took over three inches off the waist of one T-shirt, and it's still a bit baggy. I'm actually thinner!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/01/2024 19:47

I’ve had a good weekend, I’ve stayed 100% on track and I can’t remember the last weekend I did that! No alcohol helps.
my food has been really tasty and I echo that above, I’ve loaded my plate with veg and feel Really satisfied after my meals. I don’t like that super stuffed feeling but feeling pleasantly full after meals does help keep the hunger and cravings away. I ran 10km this morning and did feel very unfit after Christmas/new year.

my week is all planned, I weigh in Thursday and I feel quite optimistic. I want to run 2 mornings this week, probs weds and Thursday.

Caytun · 08/01/2024 00:30

Hi everyone,

It's so nice to come across this thread. I lost nearly two stone a year and a half ago then I had a baby and now am 14 stone. Tried to do it all online independently but that was a MASSIVE fail.

First week back in group and I also see it as a transition week. Have good days but then my ultimate weakness are crisps. I'll have 3 packets of wotsits as opposed to 1 pack which is 4 syns.

Wishing you all the best!
