@thenewaveragebear1983 that is a good point, last year I did take vitamin d.

@LightandAiry a spa day would be SO lovely! I might run an Epsom salt bath tomorrow as a poor equivalent!

@Woahtherehoney my leader runs a 7.30 group too which I did used to go to but it's not as friendly, and I'm also rubbish at dragging myself out of bed in time to get there at that hour! I go to her 9am one now.

Wilma55 · 21/01/2024 08:44

Ours used to do an 8.30 and 10 am on Saturday but numbers dropped so now its 8.30 only. Group was very very busy -it's January!

Do Iceland still sell hi fi bars? I forgot to buy any at group?

TheGirlWhoLived · 21/01/2024 14:34

Yeah they do @Wilma55 or you can order them online from the slimming world page and get them delivered

Testarossa44 · 21/01/2024 17:39

If you order the hifi off the website, you have to order a minimum of 10 boxes!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/01/2024 20:54

I have had WAAAY too many syns this weekend, I think I’ve used my whole weeks worth. I ‘ll need to cut right back this week now before weigh in.

I made a healthy b breakfast bar today, which I’ll have for my breakfasts with fruit and yogurt, I used 3x b choices worth of muesli and 3 x b’s of weetabix, mix with milk and water, and 3 eggs, and baked it into a loaf. I’ve cut it into 6 slices and each slice is a b choice and 40ml milk (I never use all my a choice milk so I don’t count this, but I guess it’s 1 syn?). It helps me to have it all prepped in advance.

tomorrow I’m going to run in the morning if it’s not raining, I can’t face it in the wet and cold and dark! I’m clocking in a fair few steps at the moment walking the dog so I will be ok if I miss one. My food is all planned for the week, just need to stick to the plan , drink more water, and max out the speed foods!

TomWambsgansSwans · 21/01/2024 22:12

@thenewaveragebear1983 I've gone madly over my syns too... I had an avocado today which is 14 syns on its own. I don't fully agree with the whole idea of synning avocados but I'm trying not to argue against all that stuff as I do know Slimming World works if I follow it.

This weather is making me just want to veg on the sofa and do nothing.

I've planned my meals for the week so we should get back on track.

TomWambsgansSwans · 22/01/2024 07:56

Ok, new week, let's go! I've planned my eating for the week and my aim is to stick to it as closely as I can! It's not 100% sun free from here but I think if I stick to it then overall it will be lower syn than trying to be too strict and failing!

Wilma55 · 22/01/2024 08:06

A pound on this morning on my own scales after fish and chips Friday, meal at friends Saturday and home made (by OH) lasagne yesterday. Back on it today!

Couldn't find hifi bars on sw site, maybe for online members only. £19.99 for 4 boxes on amazon!

Maintain this week. Completely unsurprised after the weekend and falling headfirst into an emergency kfc at 9:30pm last night 😏

TheGirlWhoLived · 22/01/2024 13:54

That’s crazy! There isn’t the biggest selection in Iceland, but enough to keep you going!

Fitbakesaremysaviour · 22/01/2024 16:09

I started SW again on Jan 1st. I felt so excited - really felt like I was going to lose weight this year. I can lose weight and maintain it but I've lost focus the last few years so felt SW would be a good option.

I've really stuck to it, lost 4.5lb in less than 2 weeks and nothing since. Its not my period, I look better (my face has visibly lost weight) and I feel better, much more energy. But the scales aren't budging.

I've decided to stick it out til the end of Jan then try my own eating plan if no luck by then.

I'm almost 42 and think perimenopause is hitting. Maybe this is why I'm not having much luck!

Testarossa44 · 22/01/2024 17:30

1.5lb off this week, happy with that, meals planned and on my fridge (have one if those magnetic white board planners) got the new food for the soul book today (6 week countdown) it's got some lovely recipes, I'll definitely be trying a few out.

TomWambsgansSwans · 22/01/2024 20:13

Well done @Testarossa44!

@Fitbakesaremysaviour stock at it. You can post a few meals on here if you want some feedback? Are you following at home or going to a group?

Fitbakesaremysaviour · 22/01/2024 20:26

@TomWambsgansSwans thank you. I've done it before a few years ago and did really well - I only stopped as my job changed and it was too difficult to keep doing as I was away a lot. I find it easy to do just surprised the loss is so much slower this time. I suspect being 10 years older doesn't help!

I signed up to a group but only stay to weigh in. I find the endless going around of each member and all the weird ideas that are brought up are not helpful. I use it as a way of controlling my intake while eating fresh, healthy meals. I don't need to make a quark cheesecake! 😂 however, I've been sending my weekly sheets to my group leader but as I'm bang on track she hasn't had any feedback!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/01/2024 21:55

@Wilma55 do they have to be hifi bars? There’s loads of cereal bars you can have 2 for a B choice, the alpen light ones that are 70 cals are 2 for a b choice. I prefer them to the hifi bars, they are crunchier and last longer.

TomWambsgansSwans · 22/01/2024 22:07

@Fitbakesaremysaviour that sounds good. One thing I sometimes found was that increasing water was a good way to push through a bit.

On the interminable groups - I rejoined in 2022 and I have to say it is better than the last time I did it (roughly five years earlier) - I now go to a different group but there is no chat about Mullerlights, scan bran or roulades made out of sweetener and egg whites! I don't know whether every group is now the same and the weird tweaks have been phased out but this is a very sensible group!

Fundays12 · 22/01/2024 22:16

Can I join? I am a big fan of SW. I initially joined 8 years ago and lost 24 pounds. I then had another 2 babies in 3 years but got back to target both times quickly with SW. However I didn't bother going to class for a couple of years and the wright started creeping on as I forgot the plan. I rejoined on the 28th December weighing 10st 6.5 pounds and am now 9st 13.5 pounds. My target is 9.4 as I quite small framed (height about 5.5). I find it's so easy to cook family meals on it which is really important to me as a mum of 3. My husband also likes the recipes so always enjoys his dinners.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 23/01/2024 06:51

@TomWambsgansSwans I definitely notice a change in the mentality this time around, I last was a member in 2016, then rejoined end of last year- no muller lights or other gimmicky things, they even talk about calories and being mindful of your portion sizes.

Sw does get a bad rap on here, I’ve heard all sorts of comments about how it causes eating disorders and stuff and I’ve seen tick-tock vids about how unhealthy the mindset is but actually I don’t see it- I find it makes me cook healthy filling meals and eat way fewer snacks and I eat a lot less processed/ UPF doing it. My weight loss would probably be quicker if I slashed calories but I’m rubbish at tracking and I estimate which means calorie counting is just a game really, as I don’t do it accurately enough. Today for example, my 3 meals are going to be made exclusively from free/speed foods And the only UPF is 1 stock cube.

Ralphiesaurus · 23/01/2024 07:55

Went to group last night and pleased to see I'd lost the "gain" I'd made a couple of weeks ago when I was poorly and mainlining paracetamol etc (which I am sure makes me retain water!!). So I'm maintaining, which I'm pleased about. I need to decide whether to go for 10lb more to make a round 4st but I want to be sure it's realistic... decisions, decisions. I'm in the "overweight" BMI range and that would take me just into the "normal" range. For now, I'm just v happy to be this "balanced" about food - probably the most stable I've been weightwise my whole life 😮

Wilma55 · 23/01/2024 08:13

@thenewaveragebear1983 no they don't have to be hifi bars but I do like them! I also like Alpen light, Benefit bars (aldi) and Skinny Crunch. Spoilt for choice really!

Looks like some good losses.

@Ralphiesaurus my target is just above healthy bmi but although I'm a target member I'm currently 8 pounds above and find my weight loss is slow, about a pound a week. Think I will try to maintain at target before considering going lower.

LightandAiry · 23/01/2024 08:35

@TomWambsgansSwans I know what you mean about synning avocados, also nuts. Two very healthy sources of good fats, but as you say the diet works.

@Wilma55 I've seen Hi-Fi bars in Iceland also ALDI have skinny bars. I still have some Rocky Road left.

I went off the rails on Saturday after weigh in, just a lot of snacking and went out for breakfast yesterday - avocado with eggs on toast. I need a good 4 days to see a weight loss Saturday.

Have a good day everyone.

Ralphiesaurus · 23/01/2024 08:58

@TomWambsgansSwans I'm pleased to be in a "sensible" group too - no faddy things, just emphasis on a balanced and varied range of foods. The consultant is a bit bonkers - very very hyper - but she is also LOVELY so her energy really works...

and hello to @Fundays12 and welcome!

Sadly @Wilma55 I double-checked just now and another 10lb won't get me into the "normal" BMI range but like you I think a target just above might be more realistic for me...

Does anyone remember back in the day when there used to be body type weight ranges? Ectomorph, mesomorph, endomorph? I know it can sound like a cop out to say "I'm big boned" but I do have massive hands, feet, and head... I sound like a monster (!) - have to buy men's hats etc. And it's just common sense in a way that we're not all built the same... but the current BMI charts ignore that...

Testarossa44 · 23/01/2024 09:31

My group is pretty sensible, still a bit 'happy clappy' but no silly talk about muller yoghurt/weetabix cake etc. Last night people were asking about why some oats so simple were heb and why weren't, and about having sensible portions of free food like pasta, potatoes etc. Our consultant is the area manager and is very good without being OTT.

TomWambsgansSwans · 23/01/2024 22:13

It sounds really good that the groups seem generally more sensible than they used to be.

The days of scan bran cake seem to be gone!

I tried the SW podcast today... oh my days. The one from earlier this month where there two of them go around a supermarket is barely listenable.

The person who is a slimming world consultant seems good but the other one was mocking her accent in the next episode (the way she says 'craft' with a long a). It definitely needs some quality control - you'd think being January they would do a full intro episode but it was just them walking around a supermarket in Stockport talking about vegan ingredients!

Fundays12 · 24/01/2024 10:59

It's weigh in day for me on Friday morning. I actually have no idea how it will go as I feel bloated like it's near my monthly time but definitely look slimmer elsewhere but haven't eaten much this week due to major dental work (but not eating isnt great either)
