Xenophobia, homophonic, transphobia

Are you gonna do anything about it? Like, i know the line is that shoving the madness in the feminism board means it's not transphobia. And I know it's been done to death but I'm sick of it. It's not acceptable. Xenophobia, racism and homophobia also increasing.
And no. I won't leave. This is the biggest forum of its kind and it needs to represent and respect us all. And care that it's not.

@TheyAreLovelyLovelyPeople I’m not an expert and I’m not trans myself so I can’t provide you with an answer that will satisfy the apparent need to come to a definition.

But some of the things I think about are

  • none of the trans men and women I know seem to have made a ‘choice’, about their gender identity any more than we make choices about sexuality. It seems to be innate. And I believe that people shouldn’t be ‘othered’ for something that they have no choice over.
  • Scientists have not yet agreed what it is that makes people transgender, but there are studies that suggest genetic variation, which is a biological phenomenon. I’m not remotely qualified to comment on this.
  • none of the trans people I know reflect the caricatures I see portrayed on these boards - ‘bearded men in tutus’. There is lots of variation in terms of how much they want to do to affirm their gender.
  • history is full of transgender and gender fluid people. It’s not a new thing. But western society - based on the church? - has generally promoted legally binding male-female relationships. Possibly for reasons of social and economic control. We are socially conditioned from an early age to favour these models. It’s only in the last few decades that being anything other than heterosexual has been acceptable in the UK. I think many of the younger generation are more aware and open minded about gender identity.
  • I worry like anyone else on the boards does about women’s safety. The men who have hurt me and all the women in know have been heterosexual cis men. Transwomen, in my view, are not the problem here.

A person who is homosexual does not have to do anything to their bodies to show that they are same sex attracted. They do not have to change language. They do not have to convince other people that they are same sex attracted. However, there are many trans people who are homosexual but now claim to be straight because they claim to be something that is impossible - the opposite sex.
There are no scientific studies that prove there’s a genetic cause of ‘transness’.
The reason why male / female relationships have been ‘promoted’ over time, all throughout the World, is precisely for the purpose of procreation.
A large % of ‘transwomen’ being held in the prison system for crimes such as rape and sexual assault amazingly only realised they were trans once they were incarcerated. It’s a get-out-of-male-jail card, but fortunately now any male prisoner has to be housed in the male prison estate. So men like ‘Isla’ Bryson, who identified as male when he raped women, identified as female when being held on remand, and identifies as male once again now he’s back where he belongs in the male prison estate can no longer play the system.

Just to clear something up, I have no problems at all about referring to a trans person with their preferred name. I have no problems with calling say, for example, transwomen like Caitlin Jenner, as Caitlin. I will respect their name. I have absolutely zero problem with calling a transwoman (such as Caitlin Jenner) by their chosen name - Kate, Caitlin, Anabelle, Stacey, whatever. I will not deadname them. I will respect their name. The issue I have, is referring a male as she. I think I would choose they, or refer to their name, if push comes to shove. I will respect their name. I will respect that. And I will not deadname them. But the part I have is when it comes to, as I've said, referring to a male as she. That's it. That's my only issue.

OP, maybe you could start a thread about homophobia, xenophobia, add in hatred of people on benefits, state pension claimants and, maybe, immigrants?

Then we could actually have a discussion about the far right wing on here?

Adding in transphobia was always going to result in no one else getting a voice without the inevitable pile on.

Good luck and thank you for trying. 😉

I’m not sure if you’re understanding any of my post. This isn’t personal. You’re a stranger on the internet.

The OP started a thread regarding three phobias.

People have tried to start conversations about xenophobia and homophobia.

I have, several times.

Got a few replies, replied back, and within two minutes we were back to trans people.

So, yes, I had the chance and I took it.

But we were drowned out, ironically, by people who proved her point.

The worst one is transphobia.

40 pages and it’s been mainly been people proving they are transphobic.

Blame the OP as it's is gibberish & mostly banging on about so called "transphobia".

Anyway. Night all. Nearly at the end of a thread that was taken completely off topic but which, in the end, proved the OP's point.

Noo. Arachnophobia is a lot worse. Many spiders have died because of people’s irrational fear. And it’s harder to spell.

It really does depend on your definition of transphobia though. I don’t consider it transphobic to refer to trans women as men. Or trans men as women. Those are facts. Nor do I consider it transphobic not to want to see trans women in my changing room. I’m happy to see trans men in the women’s changing rooms. Is that transphobic? I am polite and friendly to anyone who is polite and friendly to me and that includes everyone, however they choose to identify. My son is gay and has trans friends with whom I get along very well. I don’t have any trans friends myself, but it isn’t deliberate. I’m not excluding them. What do you consider to be transphobic? It’s ok. You don’t have to answer. I know you’ve already bidden farewell. Again.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 03/07/2026 19:11

A man declaring he is a woman and a lesbian, and that it is literal violence if female lesbians do not let him have penis-in-vagina sex with them sounds pretty homophobic to me. Not letting lesbians meet up or have any groups irl or online without letting penis-havers in the group sounds pretty homophobic to me. Defining being gay or lesbian as anything other than same sex attracted sounds pretty homophobic too.

As I said, we can all enjoy the minor victory of having our points proven because boy the genderists obliged with that to prove ours.

This is exactly it. Without a definition of transphobia that we (largly) agree on it's meaningless.

Just don't use abusive language and slurs. Think how you might feel if you were trans and were unfortunate enough to come across mumsnet posts.
Its not hard.
Being a feminist and advocate for women's rights and being a trans ally are not mutually exclusive. I dont want to be associated with your mn 'feminism'

Do you give this same demand to Reddit and bluesky? Think about how women felt when they came across a TRA advocating rape with a splintery rolling pin for the crime of not agreeing with him. Or the signs at protests advocating death to women who don’t go along with GI? Or does that not count?

While TRAs will try and 'both sides' this when it comes to discussing the abhorrent behaviour of a large contingent of their 'allies' they will soon pivot on to something else or just ignore the question as they know they don't have a leg to stand on when trying to defend their behaviour. It is not middle aged lesbians issuing death and rape threats, turning up to every gathering wearing masks with megaphones and drums, going after venues (be it the owners or direct action releasing insects etc), holding vile signs, lawfare, doxxing, going after livelihoods and just being absolutely awful.

Yup. Apparently saying a man is not a woman is literal violence and worse than death threats, but the list you gave is ok to do because of some vague reason never explained. TRA never seem to be able to back arguments up. It’d be funny if it wasn’t such a big topic. They’re like kids who’s only response to pushback is “because I say so”

We have a group of 'trans people and allies' who monitor MN for any abusive language and slurs...so you can be sure any abusive language and slurs are removed pretty promptly. They call themselves 'The Monitors'. Under his eye.

When women get abusive language and slurs the option has been to leave it up so that people can see the barrage that women and girls are up against.

There are also 'trans people and allies' that post shockingly bad posts to gain traction just so they can post on Reddit about how evil and nasty 'mumsnet' is.

So I am afraid the whole 'poor trans people' is worn a little thin these days.

If your version of 'feminism' is based on how you can get more men into female spaces, then I think you have misunderstood the basic tenets of feminism.

If they post something and you all don't respond with vile hatred, then they can't prove anything.

As it stands, you are all so easily wound up by the issue that it takes a mere mention for you to all start saying things that will challenge the guidelines. That's your weakness, nobody else's. Nobody makes you say awful things about trans people and personally attack them and anyone who supports them, that's all your choice.

This whole thread is attacking women on FWR. You can’t expect posters not to defend their position. Or complain when you are disagreed with yourselves. The comments towards FWR haven’t exactly been polite and several have been deleted, including some of yours.
