Xenophobia, homophonic, transphobia

Are you gonna do anything about it? Like, i know the line is that shoving the madness in the feminism board means it's not transphobia. And I know it's been done to death but I'm sick of it. It's not acceptable. Xenophobia, racism and homophobia also increasing.
And no. I won't leave. This is the biggest forum of its kind and it needs to represent and respect us all. And care that it's not.

I couldn't agree more. The anti trans thing is wild here and like you say, posted in the feminist board too, which makes it 'ok' 🙄.

cannibalfish · Today 02:03

Absolutely agree. Mumsnet is rife with transphobia, racism and Islamophobia these days, it’s quite disheartening.

I do believe it is generational and will die out eventually though. I work with young people and holding these views will lead to being a social pariah.

It is also against the Mumsnet talk guidelines yet mods do nothing about it.

Dadalus · Today 05:39

Can't agree about the transphobia. But to your point about allowing so many homophones on mumsent - "hear here!"

The transphobia happens in almost every thread. Doesn't matter the subject.

JustForAMomentLetsBeStill · Today 05:45

The transphobia is a difficult one. I was called transphobic on here for saying trans women are men. When some people see facts as phobia, what can you do?

Overtheatlantic · Today 05:47

The word “transphobia” can’t be abused, however. I don’t want trans men or women using women’s restrooms, changing rooms, prisons or competing in their sports. Otherwise, crack on and live a good life. I am not transphobia and I will not accept that label.

But who will think of the poor homophones?

RampantIvy · Today 05:57

Add ageism.

Report it then. "Nobody can change sex" isn't transphobia.

I'm all for homophones though. Can be very witty

I agree it is generational in part. Fortunately, the younger people who have been brainwashed at school, university and online into believing that gender identity trumps sex are now out in the real world and slowly grasping that they've been sold a pup. The generation behind them see gender ideology as old hat so are not interested in it.

growinguptobreakingdown · Today 06:23

I agree op.
But this thread will be overrun with it.

Is isn’t different from saying ‘men are biologically designed to reproduce with women’ as an argument against homosexuality. Technically a fact but still doesn’t change the fact that they are gay and aren’t going to do that. Would you go around arguing that point unprompted?

What genitalia a person might have has nothing to do with you, doesn’t change them as a person and makes no difference to anything really. It’s a Mumsnet obsession at this point, I know quite a few trans people, through work and in my personal life, and it really is a non issue in real life.

Yes, almost every thread will descend into it if left long enough. It’s a really strange obsession

It’s not a competition, both gender identity and biological sex are a part of everyone’s life. Nothing ‘trumps’ anything.

This is also not true from my experience, I work with young people and they are far more accepting and unbothered about these issues than ever before. It’s genuinely a non issue how someone chooses to present themself, they use correct pronouns and are used to interacting with all sorts of different people.

It is an issue when men want to go into women’s spaces by using gender as the reason they should be allowed. Gender ideology is harmful to everyone, especially autistic people.

Being gay isn’t comparable to people identifying as trans, but of course, the fact the T is added onto the LGB, makes some people think it is. Sexuality is completely different to gender, regardless of some saying it isn’t.

ainsleysanob · Today 06:37

Ah you want the nasty old terfs to just shut up or banned if they don’t agree with you?! There’s a word for that. Censorship.

And they say transphobia doesn’t exist on this site…

JoyousOpalLemur · Today 06:39

Saying that men aren't women shouldn't be banned.

Those things aren’t rife on Mumsnet. Actually posters here usually care a great deal when they are in the minority group being criticised.

Ageism is brought up constantly here, even when it isn’t relevant.

No, personally I’d just like for the obsession to be able to be called out every so often.

As a member of the LGBT+ community they are absolutely related due to the shared history, oppression and culture.

And when the fad is over, women’s spaces are entirely protected and discussion surrounding what women are expected to put up with, you won’t need to keep hearing about it will you?

The thing is, it’s such a non issue in real life.

I am 99.99999% sure I work with a trans woman. It’s obviously impossible to actually know, and it’s not the type of thing you’d ask someone straight up. It doesn’t affect how she does her job, and she just wants to get on with her life. I can’t ever imagine being as angry about it as some people on here are. It’s so overblown.
