Xenophobia, homophonic, transphobia

Are you gonna do anything about it? Like, i know the line is that shoving the madness in the feminism board means it's not transphobia. And I know it's been done to death but I'm sick of it. It's not acceptable. Xenophobia, racism and homophobia also increasing.
And no. I won't leave. This is the biggest forum of its kind and it needs to represent and respect us all. And care that it's not.

There IS no difference is there, otherwise you'd just tell us what that difference is?

No I wouldn't because of the simple fact you're a stranger on the internet whose opinion doesn't affect me.

Not sure who "us " is as yesterday you were all apparently lone wolves.

callmeLoretta1 · 02/07/2026 12:30

Explain this, what is the difference?

Can you not see that your comment is transphobic?

Lots of perpetrators out there. Men, and women, and trans people.

We distinguish the dodgy ones the same way for we do for everyone - gut feeling, observation of questionable behaviour etc.

I’d much rather be in the company of someone who is openly trans than feeling like I’m with someone who is hiding that part of themselves away.

Sorry, I must be a bit slow this morning as I don't understand this point. Please can you help me by explaining in words of one syllable why the following comment is transphobic?

"I too would like to know how to distinguish between a trans woman and a pervy, dangerous man"

It’s “questionable behaviour” for men to ignore the boundaries of most women and girls and come into female only spaces. Following the Supreme Court ruling, they no longer have the excuse that they think it’s permitted.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/07/2026 12:53

And my gut feeling is telling me that this is a man who doesn’t respect women and girls, and thinks consent doesn’t matter to him in this case at least, so it’s a red flag when any man does that at all. IDGAF what clothes he chooses to wear or what his preferred pronouns are. Men should not be accessing women only spaces.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/07/2026 12:54

Please be my guest someone and tell me why you think a group of men should use women only spaces.

TheyAreLovelyLovelyPeople · 02/07/2026 12:56

Darker · 02/07/2026 09:18

@TheyAreLovelyLovelyPeople I’m not an expert and I’m not trans myself so I can’t provide you with an answer that will satisfy the apparent need to come to a definition.

But some of the things I think about are

  • none of the trans men and women I know seem to have made a ‘choice’, about their gender identity any more than we make choices about sexuality. It seems to be innate. And I believe that people shouldn’t be ‘othered’ for something that they have no choice over.
  • Scientists have not yet agreed what it is that makes people transgender, but there are studies that suggest genetic variation, which is a biological phenomenon. I’m not remotely qualified to comment on this.
  • none of the trans people I know reflect the caricatures I see portrayed on these boards - ‘bearded men in tutus’. There is lots of variation in terms of how much they want to do to affirm their gender.
  • history is full of transgender and gender fluid people. It’s not a new thing. But western society - based on the church? - has generally promoted legally binding male-female relationships. Possibly for reasons of social and economic control. We are socially conditioned from an early age to favour these models. It’s only in the last few decades that being anything other than heterosexual has been acceptable in the UK. I think many of the younger generation are more aware and open minded about gender identity.
  • I worry like anyone else on the boards does about women’s safety. The men who have hurt me and all the women in know have been heterosexual cis men. Transwomen, in my view, are not the problem here.

Thank you for engaging with my question, I do appreciate it.

For the love of god, someone attempt to answer this. And if engaging with strangers on the internet is an issue for some, maybe online discussion forums aren’t for you.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/07/2026 13:05

And if you can’t explain to people who don’t share your beliefs why society should reorganise itself around those beliefs to their detriment, maybe have a little think about whether your cause is itself valid, and whether your allyship is in any way useful to it.

So you acknowledge that some trans people are offenders, but to point out some trans people are offenders is transphobic?

Darker · 02/07/2026 13:12

It’s a discussion forum. Clue is in the name. If you’re going to defend an ideology that has the potential to harm women, at the very least defend what you put out there.

It’s like going on to a discussion about the earth and stating it’s flat and expecting no push back or probing into why one thinks that. And being surprised about it!

You are the one who wants to put men in female single sex spaces so the onus is on you to explain why it is a good idea.

You are really. I'd advise either caution, or just ignoring. It's really not worth it.

The thread is about whether mumsnet is more tolerant than it should be about xenophobia, homophobia and transphobia.

I am here to agree, particularly with reference to transphobia.

As you are the expert on transphobia perhaps you can help me out by answering the question I posed earlier?

'Us' being the people asking.

Why is it so difficult to explain it so that people understand why you think saying 'I'm a lady' turns a man into a woman?

Except, women had to fight really hard for single sex spaces in situations where they were vulnerable.
Men, even the majority who are lovely, respectful and trustworthy are not allowed into them because men (as a class) pose a risk to women. Good men understand this and do not try to enter these spaces.
Transwomen (as a class) pose at least the same risk as men as shown in offending statistical data. Therefore transwomen are not permitted to enter womens single sex spaces. It is not a judgement on individual transwomen.

This is not transphobia but evidence based safeguarding.

Just so people know where you’re coming from, do you think it’s transphobia merely to acknowledge that all the people you, with your ideology, call “trans women” are simply male?

And as I don’t share your ideological beliefs I just see all adult males as men.

Since when are males 0.5% of the population? Do tell us?
