Site continually crashing and reloading

Traceysgoingtobelivid · 20/11/2025 11:42

I am so utterly sick of this, it’s been going on for months but now it’s even worse, in the space of 15 minutes the site has crashed and reloaded 3 times, each time I have lost my post I was typing, it’s infuriating, I am on an iPad using safari. This has been highlighted by numerous posters time and time again and nothing changes.

And screen recordings and shots won’t show my finger touching threads and nothing happening or my thumb trying to scroll the post whilst the page has frozen. There has to be more to this. I cannot believe after all this time Mumsnet are still maintaining that they don’t know what the problem is and can’t replicate it themselves. We’re being hoodwinked here.

Exactly what happens to me. It’s trying to load something but it freezes and will not scroll. If you refresh four times it usually scrolls on the fourth reload.

hiintrepidheroes · 27/11/2025 18:05

Happens to me every time I use the site. Trash site in every way.

Clearly a larger issue than is made out by admin considering the amount of reports. Spend some money fixing it, less excuses.

duende · 27/11/2025 18:17

It happens all the time. I use chrome on an iPhone. It has happened twice reading this thread. The worst user experience on the net.

noblegiraffe · 27/11/2025 18:28

@BeckyAMumsnet the issues are far worse after 9pm. If your techs are having trouble replicating, get them to log in then.

No idea why, more users logging in then?

Traceysgoingtobelivid · 27/11/2025 21:54

Today I have had to completely close the site down several times and reload because the site just completely freezes.

Happens to me all the time too, reloads, crashes, click on “see all” nothing happens. It’s only this site.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 27/11/2025 22:26

I think it happens all the time. It won’t change. It’s a really glitchy site.

l don’t know why it’s like this, but it’s like the technology is stuck in 1995

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 29/11/2025 16:06

Yes same.
throws me off
re loads
gets stuck.
only for last month or so

HalfMumHalfBiccit · 29/11/2025 18:05

Hi Mumsnet, I can’t use the usual webpage anymore because it won’t load. I’m using an iPad. I’ve come on the app to post here. The App however does not have the same functionality. You can’t real the OPs posts all in one go for example. Please can this be fixed. It’s almost getting to hard for me to use at all.

Traceysgoingtobelivid · 29/11/2025 22:32

The site has never been as bad as it is now, on average every 10 minutes the site completely freezes and I have to completely reload, this is beyond ridiculous and is now becoming virtually unusable, today yet again I have had the delayed typing, the site crashing after I have taken an age to reply to a post and then my post is completely lost, this is an absolute disgrace and the fact this has been going on for over a year while Mumsnet “scratch their heads” is frankly insulting now.

@Traceysgoingtobelivid - god, the lagging while typing is becoming really infuriating. All of these issues have been going on for way over a year. It’s a mystery to me why no one on the team has been able to replicate any of the issues. And there is no way at all of being able to screenshot any of the problems.

All I can say, again, is MN is really glitchy, eats up my iPad battery and makes my device really hot. No other website does this.

It’s quite amazing that nobody in MNHQ has an iPhone or iPad.

AnAudacityofinlaws · 30/11/2025 08:57

the crash and reload issue has happened twice as I have been reading this thread. iPhone 14, Edge browser (given up with Safari). Same as others - phone gets too hot to hold while using the site later at night. I never use any other device and don’t use the app.
The unintended consequence however is that I spend much less time on it, which is probably a good thing!

BunfightBetty · 30/11/2025 12:51

Up until today, though trying to use the site on my iPhone has been a nightmare, it was better (though not perfect) on my Mac. Today I can’t get any links to work on my Mac on either Safari or Chrome. If I try to click a link to a thread it just doesn’t work. Nothing happens and it’s not clickable.

There’s a whacking great Monsoon ad with numerous videos/moving parts across the top and down both sides. Then within the page (the landing page when you go to www.Mumsnet.com )there are lots of other ads, including a sliding carousel for various Black Friday promotions at eg Boden.

That front page seems even more stuffed with ads than usual, it’s actually more ad than content now. Is that the reason why now Mac can’t cope with the site either? If a Mac runs out of working memory for the site there’s a huge problem.

It seems like the ad content has been ramped up even more. I really hope I’m mistaken, as for MN to ramp up the ads now, in the knowledge that the site isn’t working for many users because of the ads, and before the current issues are fixed, would show quite a level of contempt for site users.

They don't even need those - though, of course, they have them! I use an Android phone, Chrome browser on a PC, and a Chromebook.

I've enabled "save form data" in Chrome settings. This makes the post I'm typing come back after MN crashes. I imagine other browsers have the same option. Doesn't fix the "I'm pressing keys but nothing's happening" typing lag, regrettably, but does save your sanity when you're forced to reload in the middle of writing a post!

Thank you to everyone who has sent screenshots and videos; they really do help in diagnosing the problem. We're running some more tests this week so just wanted to update that we're hopeful we'll have this sorted soon.

Housewife2010 · 01/12/2025 10:55

I'm using an android phone and the site is impossible to use today. I'm trying to go on the beauty advent threads. There are big adverts & videos for Now TV and the site freezes. I'm using the Chrome browser.

No, you won’t. We’ll still be having these conversations in the years and months to come.

This has been going on too long for us to believe this. Is it a ploy to get people to pay for a premium membership? This site needs investment and it’s a joke of a site in usability.

FlyingFlamingo · 02/12/2025 06:58

Can I add to the crashing/reloading and ending up back at the top of a thread woes? I also have a new issue though - scrolling by itself! The page will initially be ‘stuck’ and then start moving by itself, the only way to stop it is to leave the page completely.
I’m on an iPhone using Chrome (I gave up even trying on Safari years ago, that’s even worse)
Has anyone else had the same?

Yup. I’ve had the phantom scrolling. Also using chrome and iPhone.

dontcallmelen · 02/12/2025 10:06

It’s diabolical this morning constant reloading or freezing having to rush type this as get halfway through a reply then bam reloads losing the post, so frustrating.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 02/12/2025 10:07

I’m trying to reply to say the site freezes constantly but can’t scroll the page to write that as it’s frozen 🤣
