Site continually crashing and reloading

I am so utterly sick of this, it’s been going on for months but now it’s even worse, in the space of 15 minutes the site has crashed and reloaded 3 times, each time I have lost my post I was typing, it’s infuriating, I am on an iPad using safari. This has been highlighted by numerous posters time and time again and nothing changes.

It might be your network. Internet connection.

If it was this, or Ram or process power then it would be happening on every site I visit. I am on my phone on safari and it only happens on Mumsnet and this started when the adverts increased. Again today, the page freezes until the advert loads.

Poppins2016 · 23/11/2025 06:30

I've had similar issues with crashing and reloading (much worse over the last 24 hours) and I'm on an Android/Samsung browser.

BeeWitchy · 23/11/2025 07:03

I had read 2 lines of the original post and it reloaded. And it’s regularly reloading, Typing problems, page freezing more often, blank pages etc..

i don’t think the giant ads helping.

Plumcorkyduff · 23/11/2025 07:16

I have exactly the same issues as @Traceysgoingtobelivid . Constantly reloading, not loading a full screen, typing lag etc. I am also on an iPad using Safari.

True. It could be alot of things. Like Ram and processor power. i have 2 different laptops, but the same network device.

Nope. Very noticeable that it only happens on Mumsnet.

Yesterday I also browsed Marks and Spencer and Next, with hundreds and hundreds of products, yet both sites were stable, loaded a lot faster despite being image-dense, and weren’t continually crashing and reloading. The Guardian was also fine, as was my local council site, Vue cinema and various other sites. I only experienced one other reload and that was on the Daily Mail site when I tried to scroll quickly down the first page before waiting for it to load. It only happened once though, despite their site having numerous images, lots of links, and also having video ads (though usually only one per page, instead of trying to cram in a banner at the top with a video, two side banners with video, plus several video or whole page ads interspersed between thread posts).

MN was a lot more stable when it only had a few static ads. Like I said upthread, I really don’t mind seeing the ads, but the site does need to be robust enough for them to not completely ruin the experience.

Snackpocket · 23/11/2025 09:14

Happens to me all the time, and only on this site. It’s definitely to do with the huge adverts loading. It happens on safari and chrome. I’ve mentioned on numerous threads and it’s been going on for months. It’s really frustrating as you get halfway down a thread then the page refreshes and puts you back to the top. I don’t know why one of the staff doesn’t just log into the site on their phone like a user and they’ll see it happen themself. Asking for screenshots and videos is ridiculous.

BunfightBetty · 23/11/2025 16:31

Today the biggest problem has been the Oushk ads - huge banner at the top of the screen and long banners on both sides. This whole fandango is incredibly busy - there seem to be videos everywhere - left, top and right. All trying to load and play at once, on a long thread with other big/moving ads stuffed in between the posts as well. I’m not managing to actually read any thread where this ad appears.

Exactly, it’s not going to be hard to replicate. Anyone with an iPhone can just open some threads and try to scroll them. You’ll see.

PMBiscut · 23/11/2025 16:38

Interestingly I’ve only noticed it being a real problem since they introduced the ‘premium’ mumsnet option…

PuppyMonkey · 25/11/2025 08:30

Just bumping to see what the update from @BeckyAMumsnet and @MNHQ is today after all the investigations.

Bambamhoohoo · 25/11/2025 08:34

Yes same- no way could I do a recording as it happens unprompted and would just show a blank screen anyway?!

PegDope · 25/11/2025 08:41

Yeah I reported this issues months ago and it’s still happening.

How convenient that it doesn’t happen with premium.

@BeckyAMumsnet its the video ads. They’re causing the refresh issue.

2025VibeandThrive · 25/11/2025 08:45

I also had a thread about this and was also asked to send a recording. No I didn’t. Because I couldn’t be arsed. It’s not my problem to fix. As you have said so many people have complained about these issues already. Why should I record my use so they can watch it freeze, reload and then a blank screen? I explained the issue. I sent screenshots. I’m not going to record my use and email it to them.

Traceysgoingtobelivid · 25/11/2025 10:16

It’s worse than it’s ever been, when I was on mumsnet last night it crashed and reloaded 3 times in a row and when the site trys to reload the site just ‘hangs’ so it takes ages, it’s utterly infuriating. Another issue is when I want to load a thread and I tap my screen to load it doesn’t register, I could tap a thread title around 5 times to try and load but nothing happens until it crashes and reloads yet again, the taking back to the top of the thread when it crashes and reloads is really frustrating, you then have to try and find your place before the whole sorry cycle starts again.

This really isn’t good enough and as this has been going on for months and nothing improves no matter how many posters complain about it I presume there is no intention of sorting it and yes since these video ads have been introduced it’s got a lot worse and it was bad enough before.

Very convenient indeed, I won’t pay to use a site where I provide the content, I’m happy to have adverts so long as it affect the user experience.

dontcallmelen · 25/11/2025 11:11

@Traceysgoingtobelivid exactly the same for me Yy tapping the title of a thread or going to a different page takes forever before it “registers” it’s taken me age to post this due to the typing lag, wonder also if it’s particularly prevalent on safari iPad/phone

noblegiraffe · 25/11/2025 11:22

I had this last night, I’ve not really noticed it as a major problem before but it was bloody awful. It was slow loading the site, then none of the links where working (not sure how I can video a link refusing to be pressed), and if I scrolled down Active, then there was just a blank screen where the threads should be.

Someone was asking for recommendations for a video doorbell which I wanted to reply to but I couldn’t get into the thread despite reloading about 10 times so I gave up.

dontcallmelen · 25/11/2025 11:55

It’s been particularly bad last night & this morning don’t think it’s rocket science that the sheer amount of large adverts/jumping around videos/massive photo ads stuffed in between threads is causing an issue for many of us combined with the battery draining & devices getting extremely hot, I’m thinking the only was it will be solved if you pay for premium?

Well I love MN and have been on here for over 10 years, but I won’t be paying for Premium, because I already have too many subscriptions and I am (one of many) actually providing free content.

Instead, I’m more than happy to be shown ads and am very happy for MN to make lots of money off them. The site does need to be usable, however. It feels like they’ve tried to run before they can walk and have been overly-ambitious in adding too many huge ads with multiple moving images, before the site has a robust enough build to handle them.

EmeraldRoulette · 25/11/2025 13:16

As other people have said, I initially thought it was a problem with my device

But no other website causes problems

The only things that come close are local newspaper websites - you know the kind I mean that's just completely full of adverts because that's the only way they can run.

I no longer click on anything like that because usually it won't load. I think what happens with MN is that it's trying to load but the video adverts keep crashing it

I was on here a lot less yesterday, though - and to be honest, that's a good thing.

yesterday, I could barely get the "active" section to load.

I also find the request for screenshots or screen recordings to be very weird. I don't know when it's going to happen so how would I capture it immediately?

I'm a lot more productive when I'm not on here, though 😂

noblegiraffe · 25/11/2025 22:00

Ok, after 9pm is when it really goes to shit.

Either I can get on for a bit then it goes blank, or the site doesn’t load at all. These screenshots from the last hour.

The Oushk ads that have been appearing across the top and down the sides with lots of moving parts have been terrible - iPhone crashing repeatedly and not allowing the threads to be read at all. I can manage to read them on Mac, though, but this isn't much use when I usually use MN on the go.

Exactly the same for me. Can't read a thread for it going blank and/or freezing after a couple of posts.

Giving up for this evening, it's too frustrating.

Shutuptrevor · 25/11/2025 23:17

It’s the ads, 100%. That’s why they don’t fix it.

Download a private browser or ad blocker and it magically goes away, it’s fab.

Cattenberg · 25/11/2025 23:53

My iPad developed this issue and MN became unusable on it. The site doesn't work very well on my iPhone, either - it's as though the threads are too big to open! MN works fine on my HP laptop however.
